Eddie was a prophet who wasn't fully accepted in his own land. Which worked so much better for Eddie in England. The result - an inspiration for The Beatles, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. We love you, Eddie. We'll see you in Heaven.
It's like the Bible says, "A prophet is not accepted in his own land." That applies to you, Eddie, my brother. That's why you made more of an impact in England, which is just alright, since you influenced bands like The Beatles, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. God keep all of you in the U.K.!
I REMEMBER EDDIE ..ELVIS COPY HIS STYLE...NOTICE THAT U ELVIS FANS...IALWAYS PLAY HIS MUSIC ON MY PLAYER...COME ON EVERY BODY....SUMMER TIME BLUES.MY FAVS CLASSIC HITS RIP EDDIE
The speaker says (at 1:12) his family moved to the LA surburbs when he was 12. That would have been 1950-51. If that's true it means Ed stayed by himself until 1953! Because that was the year he and his family moved to Bell Gardens. There are 2 school photos taken in 1953. One with Ed in Albert Lea, MN and the second in Bell Gardens. No big deal but it's nicer if people can get it right coming to tell the EC story.
@mirlimirli It was April 17, 1960. I guess I lost interest at the end and missed that part. LOL Yep, it's good as people learn something about Eddie. And that story Ed getting married with Sharon, well...nobody knows about that for real. Sharon have "fueled" that story pretty much after Eddie's death. Read the book by his nephew Bobby Cochran, The Eddie Cochran Story and one maybe get a new perspective about this topic. Ed was young and I doubt he would married Sharon. He had heaps of girls.
yes, of course I know the books., but no one knows what could have happened. The facts are that he really introduced her in England as his fiancée.... end of the story.
i could listen to C'mon Everybody ALL DAY! sometimes i actually do! one of the best songs ever written! I dont think we'll ever forget him. just look at how many views this video has. RIP Eddie.
"C'mon Everybody" was NOT a "flop". It peaked at #35 on the Billboard chart. Now, maybe #35 isn't as great at a top ten record or a million seller, but anything reaching the top 40 should not be considered a flop. Many recording artists would love to have a top 40 record. Secondly, Eddie's version of "Three Stars" was not "pathetic". That is an insult. It was a touching recording that came from his heart. Next time, the author should choose his words much more carefully.
I guess he doesn't mean anything bad. "The word pathétique is often misunderstood by native English speakers due to the negative meaning of the modern pathetic. The term means "with pathos" and denotes a passionate rhetorical character intending to evoke sorrow" (from Wikipedia)
And several about Elvis, one about Jerry Lee, Buddy Holly, Frankie Lymon, and Little Richard. There was even a VH1 biopic about Ricky Nelson..
Of them all, maybe only two of the Elvis films (both TV films, one starring Jon Rhys-Meyers and the one produced by Dick Clark starring Kurt Russell) were passable.
The Ricky Nelson film was mediocre, a better effort was brother David's documentary.
The Little Richard one was horrible, and "Great Balls Of Fire" (starring Dennis Quaid) played Jerry Lee Lewis as a hayseed, as if "The Killer" were Andy Griffith's "Sheriff Andy Taylor."
The Frankie Lymon film was also terrible, from the perspective of women who allegedly bore the late Teenagers' child out-of-wedlock.
The two best were, in fact, Lou Diamond Phillips as Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba," and Gary Busey's great turn (doing his own singing) in "The Buddy Holly Story."
Had an Eddie Cochran film been made not long after the underrated rockabilly singer's death, a great casting in the role would have been Edd :"Kookie" Byrnes (of TV's "77 Sunset Strip"), who bore a striking resemblance to Cochran.
Now a Cochran biopic is obscenely long overdue, such that even Brad Pitt is too old for the role.
Any ideas on an established actor who resembles Cochran, who even better may be able to play guitar and sing (and isn't too old to play him)?
@1pick2sticks Good question. Have no good answer but a movie about Big Bopper is cookin'. I don't know how far they have come with it but it will come. Read this on Face Book some months ago.
This is a great tribute with good info that a lot of people don't know. I can't believe he would just ask a girl to marry him who he had previously been arrogant about!!
It is the opinion of most biographers that he would have been greater than Elvis, but he died too young and never received the attention that he deserved.
Eddie toured Australia on Lee Gordon's Big Show in October 1957 appearing along side Little Richard, Gene Vincent, and Aussie Johnny O'Keefe. The photo shot 00.17 is probably from the Australian tour book as there is and ad for radio station 2UW
See Eddie on CHARLIE GRACIE WEBSITE and in his PBS-TV DOCUMENTARY: "FABULOUS!" PBS-TV recently did a documentary on Philadelphia's first rock star--CHARLIE GRACIE, of "Butterfly," "Fabulous" and "Ninety-Nine Ways" fame. The first rock tour of Australia was Jan 1957 with Bill Haley The Platters La Vern Baker Big Joe Turner and Freddie Bell.
300,000 people saw the concerts.
Promoter Lee Gordon offered Haley US$100,000 to stay an extra week!
Early '63, the virtually unknown group The Beatles are secured to tour down under for just $10,000. The tour was delayed till mid '64.
The Beatles honoured the contract.

Eddie toured Australia in Lee Gordon's "Big Show" Oct 1957.
Appeared with Little Richard,Gene Vincent,and Johnny O'Keefe.
The poster at 00.10 is most likely from that tour.
At 00.17 the photo shot is probably from the tour book, as there is an ad for Sydney radio station 2UW.(I remember that radio programme)
Eddie was very popular here in Australia.
It's such a shame that he and Buddy Holly died, they had so much to offer the music world.
