this is a UH-1 B, attack version of the UH-1 D, this is a shorter version, used in the vietnam war.

Notice radial inlet screen, cambered vertical fin, 540 "door hinge" rotor with 27" chord blades vs. 21" on D & H, 15"? on other short fuselage Hueys. C - 1100HP L-11 eng., M - 1400HP L-13 eng. (1800HP L-703 from AH-1's would be awsome!)

The 540 rotorhead was later used on the Cobras without the stab bar and droop stops, AH-1's used stability control augmentation instead.

I'm in a medevac unit that uses huey's still. From the time we recieve a mission, we have to be off the ground in 5 min. We can crank one and take off in less then 2 min if we have already started the bird that day.

i rode one once, the engine starts of with a "whir" sound, after is a swishing sound, then afterwards all you hear is the "chop" sound. hence the term chopper.

The UH-1 series Huey is ultimately the best sounding helicopter ever made, also the best looking. It's iconic! When the later model UH-1N's went to 4 blades it ruined itself..too quiet and lost its "balls" sound. LONG LIVE the UH-1B, C, D, and H's!!!!!! best ever made. 1st Air Cav 1965-71!

Too bad it was only a 15min flight, but we jumped on the chopper under combat condition with turning rotor
