GreenpeaceUK doesn't care about nature or whatever is greene. It's an organization that is against development of nations and it's funded by big corporations from Europe and the US. GreenepeaceUK does NOT pay any taxes since it's a bogus NGO. Do your homework yourself before you believe every word what Greenpeace said. Also question why the original founder of greenpeace, left. Hint, it didn't stick to the real agenda and to much government and corporation interference.
The Amazon rain forest is currently at 92% of its original size, constantly regenerating itself and is in no way threatened by farmers. It's one of the most hostile places on the planet.
@amazingdany whew, so that's ok then - we can carry on with business as usual and cheerfully wrecking the most biodiverse habitat on the planet. I was beginning to get worried by huge weight of evidence which points in entirely the opposite direction. Thanks for setting my mind at rest!
@amazingdany What the hell? Where did you pull that figure from, your ass? The Amazonian rain forest has nearly been half way destroyed, if not more. An nothing is being done to ensure that such deforestation doesn't continue in it's upward trend - which it is. Please check your facts, because they are severely inaccurate.
@carbonandchemicals Well according to researchers Marc Morano and Kent Washburn of the American Investigator, a T.V. news magazine, the facts about the rainforest can't be seen through all the emotion-driven trees surrounding them.
Landsat data indicate that 87.5 percent of the forest is still intact. Of the 12.5 percent that is deforested, one-third to one-half is in the process of regeneration, meaning that up to 94 percent of the Amazon rainforest is left to nature.
@amazingdany regenerating????? I can't believe you actually think the Amazon can regenerate itself!!! do you even know anything about the topic? A tropical rainforest can't regenerate, besides the soil of a rainforest is known by not being able to retain nutrients...which means once it is gone, it's gone forever together with millions of unique plants and animal species!!!! I know this is a double edged sword but that doesn't give you any right to spread lies!
We need to work as a team to preserve our amazing rainforests and natural wonders. As a team we need to asses the right way of doing things and make sure we do not suffer greater consequences in the future. And as a team we need to stand up to these people who believe they have complete power over the world and say no longer. We as the people have the real power and we need to stand up to these corrupt officials and do what is right for the people and the planet and everything within it.
@Cozzi0 the problem is,what kind of solution would you give the small scale farmers whose lands where taken by the owners of bigger plantations?e.g. in the case of Brazil,on the one hand ethanol made of sugarcane has improved the economy, besides it has even reduced the CO2 emissions, but on the other hand it's exactly the reason why small scale farmers have to go find other territories to continue planting their crops or for cattle ranching, and that's how they get into the rainforest and this...
....is causing at the same time the increasing of the inflation rate in Brazil...the problem isn't as simple as it seems...that's why nobody has found any solution yet.
Now when i say "progress" i mean greedy company directors making money to feed our corrupt government. This saddens me because really does moeny even have any value? We seem to think it does by classing it above people and nature and even our beautiful planet. This is why our planet is slowly falling into chaos and this is why we have so many current world issues are upon us. Just because the majority belive it, doesn't make it right. Think for yourself deep down you know what is the right thing
When will we wake up and see what we are doing to our beautiful world. We as a society like to believe that the day of tomorow will be far greater than the past but this is far from the truth. Our governments lie about current world affairs to create a front for their real aims of humanity. They claim that the future will be bright and all the world will be happy, but will so called "progress" bring happiness?
Sorry, you're wrong. Our beef is not fed soy at all. We graze on natural grasses in areas that crops couldn't be grown. If we raised hundreds of pounds we would be out of business. We raise hundreds of thousands of pounds.
"Every medical study" you said. I can show research 5-1 in favor of beef protein to soy. Quit trying to spread lies and mistruths. The facts are the facts....and you should get yours straight. A balanced diet is the best.
@MyRanchMyRules Unles you're ranching cattle in the Amazon, which I'm guessing you're not, your comment is irrelevant. The wider point about mass cattle production is that it is incredibly wasteful - something like 10 kilos of feed goes into the production of every kilo of beef, and globally most of that is grain or soya which could be feeding people directly. And it's not only unsustainable but a major contribution to climate change because of the huge amounts of methane cattle produce.
Totally wrong, you know what that feed is?If you talk about Soy it is in fact Soymeal wich is given to animals.First there is Soy oil extracted for human consumption, the byproduct is Soymeal and it is uneatable for humans. Also byproducts of breweries and the ever growing biofuel industry are given to animals as they are not for humans.Grain animals get are not for human consumption either. If you look at Europe most meatbeef is fed on pastures wich are 100% more natural then any field of vegetable
@celt130 So why do UNFAO stats show that 33% of the world's cereal harvest and 90 % of the world's soy harvest are currently raised for animal feed? In the US and Canada, half of all synthetic fertilizer is used for feed crops. In the UK, the total is nearly 70 %.
A major reason that beef, in particular, has such a large environmental impact is because, of all livestock, cattle are among the worst converters of grain to meat.
@slowdazzles Whereas in nature cattle, which are ruminants, convert inedible-to-humans grasses into high-grade proteins, under industrial production grainfed cattle only provide about 1 pound of beef for every 10 to 16 pounds of feed they consume.
The"integrated crop-livestock farming" system wich provides 50% of all the meat and 90% of all the milk in the world is like a circle.Animals are fed with farm residues and pastures. There manure is used on fields tp feed humans and animals. This is a natural circle. And no not everything is industrial(sources ifad, fao)In the US every meatbeef is raised on grass till they get to 700/800 pounds,25% continue on grass,75% are sold to foodlots where they receive what I told you.Europe almost 100%grass
It's not soy but soymeal, that is a byproduct of making soyoil.Soymeal is not made for human consumption.Foodlots in the US give wheat triticale, barley, oats all are almost not used for humans.Animal are given special foods like the residues of breweries and the biofuel industry, all not for humans.World,70% human wheat,30% animal wheat.
You can also search for "integrated crop-livestock farming"system as they provide 50% of the meat and 90% of the meat in this world.Animals are fed with farm residues and on pastures. There manure is used on fields for humans and animals.A natural circle, the world is not black and white as you think. Why not talk about the destruction of 10 million acres in Indonisia to grow Palmoil trees for the biofuel industry?
The cattle production is benefitting one person, the man who is making all the money. As you said cattle production causes lots of food waste which could be used to solve world poverty issues and as well as this it causes huge global warming issues and as we all know methane is 21x worse than Co2 due to its big molecule size.
You think the industry doesn't control vegetables or fruit? Ever heard about pesticides and GM crops?About hunger, you think meat has anything to do with this? You want to continue to pay your goods the price you pay them now?Imagine those countries would have the same economic power and handle the same salaries as us.You want to pay goods the real price? We all benefit from this economic system and meat has nothing to do with this.Don't be so naive.
You know that is the problem with those kids, they have no idea how agriculture works. They never take the time to go to a farm and talk to people who know what they are talking about. They only believe garbage put there by people who like them no nothing or who lie on purpose because they have a hidden agenda. Why do people not inform themselves about what they are believing or talking about?
What kills me is that they say it is unsustainable. Our operation has been self-contained for over 100 years. I'd like to see sustainable soy grown on 86 sections of rolling foothills (soil that barely covers the rock below) leading into rugged mountains that can only be traversed on by foot or horseback. The rock walls around our alfalfa fields (which took 50 years to clear) tell the story best.
Wow, a rancher who thinks beef is good for kids. Never mind every medical study that says meat is the least healthy protein. Never let the facts get in the way of your opinion!
And you raise "hundreds" of pounds of beef that's grass fed? SO WHAT? 99% of the meat is fed soy that is grown as feed rather than for human consumption. World hunger could quite literally be eradicated if people ate plant-based proteins instead. Love your meat all you want, but the facts are the facts. Deal.
The problem is neither meat or vegitarians but global society in general Its fine 4 the middle / upper class green peace vegans tosay we should buy higherquality meat but this will never stop the cheap cost demand from lower class of society. The problem is much deeper than save the forest we need to change human nature to make any impact on the environment if indeed its changing at all. There is no geological evidence to suggest that global warming is occuring Sea levels & temperature have...
Ok, so you know better than the vast majority of climate scientists researching this issue - maybe you'd better write to them and tell them so they can stop wasting their time and we can all go back to happily polluting the planet and consuming everything in sight...
I'm very relieved you've solved the global warming issue - with the hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific studies saying that it's definitely happening I was starting to worry - now I can sleep easily in my bed again - thanks!
When I emailed Greenpeace UK last year, they told me that they would leave the promotion of a plant based diet to animal rights groups. Why do green groups downplay the role the meat and dairy industry play in global warming? It is worse for GW than all automotive industries combined as a UN FAO report reveals and subsequent reports. This intentional avoidance of this issue is due to it being an unpopular suggestion to abandon meat and dairy.
i would like to point out the massive amount of rainforest being cleared for ur veggie soybeans.. cant make sosmix and quorn without soybeans. dont eat shit meat..get good ,locally ethicaly produced meat--dont waste-use the whole animal-dont like offal-give it ur dogs..

uh, it takes 8kg of grains to get 1kg of meat. I dont eat meat substitutes, but growing grains as your main food is efficient. thats why NGO's always donate grains. its cheap and feeds almost everyone in africa. I prefer if kids feast on corn and soy.
and I thought vitamin B12 comes from bacterias. I dont use other supplements except this. a nutritionist said fruits should give enough vitamins. and mining for any resource is destructive anyway.
HolySpingRolls- Whoever told you it takes any grain to get beef lied to you. We raise hundreds of thousands of pounds of beef every year with no grain from crops whatsoever. Beef do just fine on natural grasses and plenty of grazing.
I prefer kids eat protein rich meat as our creator intended (whomever he,she or it is.) Not short term carbohydrates.
