A tropical rainforest can't regenerate, besides the soil of a rainforest is known by not being able to retain nutrients...which means once it is gone, it's gone forever together with millions of unique plants and animal species!!!! @Cozzi0 the problem is,what kind of solution would you give the small scale farmers whose lands where taken by the owners of bigger plantations?e.g. in the case of Brazil,on the one hand ethanol made of sugarcane has improved the economy, besides it has even reduced the CO2 emissions,but on the other hand it's exactly the reason why small scale farmers have to go find other territories to continue planting their crops or for cattle ranching,and that's how they get into the rainforest and this...

Sorry, you're wrong. Our beef is not fed soy at all. We graze on natural grasses in areas that crops couldn't be grown. If we raised hundreds of pounds we would be out of business. We raise hundreds of thousands of pounds.

@MyRanchMyRules Unles you're ranching cattle in the Amazon, which I'm guessing you're not, your comment is irrelevant. The wider point about mass cattle production is that it is incredibly wasteful - something like 10 kilos of feed goes into the production of every kilo of beef, and globally most of that is grain or soya which could be feeding people directly. And it's not only unsustainable but a major contribution to climate change because of the huge amounts of methane cattle produce.

Totally wrong,you know what that feed is?If you talk about Soy it is in fact Soymeal wich is given to animals.First there is Soy oil extracted for human consumption,the byproduct is Soymeal and it is uneatable for humans.Also byproducts of breweries and the ever growing biofuel industry are given to animals as they are not for humans.Grain animals get are not for human consumption either.If you look at Europe most meatbeef is fed on pastures wich are 100% more natural then any field of vegetable

The cattle production is benefitting one person, the man who is making all the money. As you said cattle production causes lots of food waste which could be used to solve world poverty issues and as well as this it causes huge global warming issues and as we all know methane is 21x worse than Co2 due to its big molecule size.

What kills me is that they say it is unsustainable. Our operation has been self-contained for over 100 years. I'd like to see sustainable soy grown on 86 sections of rolling foothills (soil that barely covers the rock below) leading into rugged mountains that can only be traversed on by foot or horseback. The rock walls around our alfalfa fields (which took 50 years to clear) tell the story best.

When I emailed Greenpeace UK last year, they told me that they would leave the promotion of a plant based diet to animal rights groups. uh, it takes 8kg of grains to get 1kg of meat. I dont eat meat substitutes, but growing grains as your main food is efficient. thats why NGO's always donate grains. its cheap and feeds almost everyone in africa. I prefer if kids feast on corn and soy.

and I thought vitamin B12 comes from bacterias. I dont use other supplements except this. a nutritionist said fruits should give enough vitamins. and mining for any resource is destructive anyway.

HolySpingRolls- Whoever told you it takes any grain to get beef lied to you. We raise hundreds of thousands of pounds of beef every year with no grain from crops whatsoever. Beef do just fine on natural grasses and plenty of grazing.

I prefer kids eat protein rich meat as our creator intended (whomever he,she or it is.) Not short term carbohydrates.
