  • it shows were the english are stuck...

they do celebrate Spitfires, a great masterpiece for sure, but they are so busy to honor their past that they can not follow the present not to say the future...UK get awake...do something brilliant for Europe and its freedom...watch Your stock-market...its getting global..or are You ?

  • @grazyarnie What a great place to make political statements.. Youtube. That's how we'll fix the world!!

    =Canadian.

  • @grazyarnie cool story bro

  • lol clarksooon does have a heavy foot. and hammond is smooth and may is just plain old slow. check the end

  • Spitfire the most beautiful aircraft ever made

  • There is no conversation to be had here, just look at those aircraft and be quiet.

  • The Spitfire = English perfection !! :)

  • Shame Jeremy's Spitfire hasn't an ejector seat in the back.

  • The Spitfire was a masterpiece from the English and so was the English Rolls Royce engine. A masterpiece.

    //Swede

  • @EJLSWE Your user name almost looks like mine :)

  • Spitfires and Aston Martins, it can not get more English then that.

  • @ericvandenhaas yeah it can, there could be a few steam trains, an E Type or 2, or some kittens

  • @ericvandenhaas while drinking tea and crumpets

  • @ericvandenhaas Massey Ferguson is very English!

  • @NiallatUTube ... sorry but, Daniel Massey was a Canadian and Harry Ferguson was Irish... Massey Ferguson started of as a Canadian company but is now US owned.

  • @ericvandenhaas Execpt the left hand drive.

  • The Merlins in the P51s were British though. Otherwise, those P51s werent worth crap with the Allisons.

  • The best sound I've ever heard is at 1:43 :D

  • @eemeeke nothing does it better than a rolls royce merlin v-12 such a sexy sound

  • vubetube, There were some 2 seaters for training I think built but these look like later conversions...

  • were spitfires made for 2 people during ww2? or is it a modern conversion?

  • Comment removed

  • @vubevube

These are trainers. The Spit is a single-seater.

I suspect these are actually two-seat Tempests, not Spitfires, but could easily be wrong.

  • @LaughatNAZIs They are actually Spitfires, towards the end of the war and post they started converting Mk IXs in 2 seat trainers

  • @LaughatNAZIs lol, you're wrong, these are very much spitfires. Some were front line fighters converted to 2 seaters for training pilots etc. I'm very jealous of these three. A truly once in a lifetime experience to get a ride on a Spit. Awesome

  • @vubevube There were some two-seaters made for arial photography - ironically the fastest Spitfires were used...

  • @DdlyHeadshot Photo Recon Spitfires were still single-seaters.

  • Well...sky is clear t his time..no Me 109 or Fw 190 flying around

  • It will be great if they could put paintball or airsoft ammo to those machinguns and cannons to simulate a real dogfight 8good old old times)

  • @worthless Dollar: ALL later versions of the RR Merlin were supercharged - not just the packard versions - which were the same engines built under licence. @ursavostock: the RR Merlin was ALREADY a monster - hence why the USAAF chose it for the P-51. Packard merely built it under licence; it wasn't upgraded by them, it was the same basic engine that was fitted in the Spitfire MKIX. @Rami2K9 - YES, Spitfires DID land in Germany towards the latter stages of the war (if that's what you're asking).

  • did they land in germany?

  • sorry, dumb question, but what has the ratings got to do with top gear deleting vids?

  • @arl390 If the vid hads really high rating it will attract attention to the vid and BBC will most likeyly "copyright" it :(

  • god which would i rather have. an aston martin, or a spitfire?

well duh i'd rather take the spitfire. do you think i'm crazy?!?!?! lol

  • If Carlsberg made days out.

  • @GFisher111

nah, Carlsberg is German... you'll ended up in a 109...

  • Well spotted...

  • @nobletank = isn't Carlsberg Danish?

  • @adventussaxonum yes it is.

  • The Allison Engines had problems with the superchargers at high altitude which was why they ditched and put the Merlin engine int which was licenced built by Packard

  • They just have the worst jobs in the world don't they!

  • jeremy burnout when he left with the aston

richard burnout when he left with the aston

james drove off like my grandpa

  • James ran on Camera!!

  • god when those big Merlin engines fire up. truly fantastic!! love the Spitfire and i love Top Gear.

  • The American P-51's had supercharged versions of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine; they were an unbeatable combination of American and British engineering.

It wasn't until the Germans built the ME262 ( jet fighter ) that the P-51's faced a superior aircraft.

  • @worthlessdollar1

the 262 wasnt really superior. it was faster and ahead of its time but the engines werent realible, the were sitting ducks on landing and take off, and they handled poorly. the 262 was the first widespread jet but if the mustang could catch it, the mustang would out dog fight it.

  • whoo i live in derby home of the beginning of the industrial revolution and rolls-royce

  • Spitfire Mk IXT's so awsome.

  • Top Gear with the Spitfire, Germans with the Me 262. Germany wins! ;)

  • @freddurobin

Great Britain with the F- 22 Raptor

    Germany with the euro fighter

    Great Britain wins! ;)

  • @freddurobin Britain with the Gloster E28, Germany with the Me 262. Britain wins. The jet engine was a British invention in the first place.

  • @DavidELD what about vintage motobikes

  • @DavidELD and it's in british racing green

  • I wonder why they didn't arrive in a P-51 Mustang? The Spitfire would not have had the range to fly from Britain to Germany and back, so the allies used the P-51 for fighter escort deep within Germany.

It would have been more accurate, but either way, well done guys! I love Top Gear

  • @osallent they used hurricanes didnt they?

  • @masatje mustangs are just spitfires with other engines and a bigger fuel capacity

  • @070DK070 Spits and Mustangs used the same engines basically. The airframes have nothing in common. Why do you post when you have no clue what you're talking about????

  • @070DK070

No they aren't. They are a completely new aircraft. Mustangs have laminar flow wings, which is what makes them such efficient, long range aircraft. The elliptical wing of the Spitfire makes for excellent wing loading and handling characteristics, and looks ethereal, but the Mustang's wing was vastly more efficient aerodynamically. That's why it could reach Berlin, and get home, when the Spitfire could only reach the German border one way. I am British, by the way, and love the Spit!

  • @EddieHfromBottom - "the Mustang's wing was vastly more efficient aerodynamically. That's why it could reach Berlin, and get home" - That and the drop tank they carried.

  • @EddieHfromBottom

Wouldn't the different weapons layout be a factor?

    I mean I could imagine 3 12.7mm MG's would require less space than 2 .303's and 1 20mm.

  • @masatje P-51's are indeed American planes... but they were designed to a British design initially for the RAF, and indeed were powered by a British engine when the later models dropped the weaker US Allison engines in favour of the British Rolls Royce ones which were far more powerful.

  • @masatje I agree but you gotta love the Spitfire

  • @masatje may I remind you the P-51 was built for the RAF, it was so good the US addapted it

But yeah, the Spit and Hurri are awsome aswell.

  • @osallent

    really? come on now.

  • LOL 2:19 when they all start talking at once made me LOL hella hard HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Ooohh you lucky lucky Barstard !

  • Isn't that in Duxford?

  • ahahahahahah captain slow at the end

  • hahaha 2:12 "come along chaps!".. made me lol

  • is there a better sound in the world, assertive, soothing and kind of sexy. the spitfire, no, im talking about the voice of james may hahaha

  • @clothierben The P-51 in a Dive with the Air Rustling through the Open Gunports

  • good vid haven't seen that one!

    why no rating?

  • thanks.

because i fear BBC, and they know how to take Top Gear videos down, i did the same thing with the rest of my uploaded vids.

  • it would help if the TG channel wasn't so..."limited", thanks very much for uploading, glad I still have "BBC America" on the TV here!

  • @GodSaveTehQueen It occurred to me last week that with all the copywrite BS on YouTube, with them removing audio, videos or user accounts, that all these greedy corporate bastards are getting free advertizing everytime someone uses their music or footage from their production. How many times have you heard music on YouTube and then bought it? How many people have seen clips from a Top Gear DVD & then bought the DVD?

Jesus they are so f*cking short sighted and selfish.

  • Write to your MP

  • member of parliament

  • on that music tip prople 2out of every 15

and the dvd thing a guy with money in the bank and he just really fell in love with this show buy watchin it on here other then that dont realy know

  • The British Spitfire is to this date the worlds best looking and graceful fighting aircraft, designed and built on a tiny budget, it showed the world that britain could and still design the worlds best aircraft. totally beautiful and graceful, a true british icon.

  • @stevebairdchef ahem...cough-cough-er-mustang-cough-cough...;)

No the Spitfire is gorgeous. But I am a biased American. Though to be fair if it werent for Rolls having designed & built the Merlins the Mustang would never have been known. You guys made a fantastic engine then Packard made it a monster. The way I see it, I guess, is the Spitfire is a beautiful aeroplane and the Mustang is a beautiful fighter. But this is all just my opinion. No disrespect to yours

  • @ursavostock Well said. The 51 was a true allied effort and it all has our respect. I would have to buy a Spit if I had the money though, my grandfather was an armorer on one in the war, and he used to get all fuzzey eyed when you talked of them.

  • ones a Mk4 i think and ones a Mk9 but im not too sure on that

  • I think they're all MK IXs (9)

The Mk IV (4) was an early Photo Recon version

  • ok ty for clearing that up

  • At least the two of them are TR MkIX that is MK IX fighters converted into two seaters. The one Hammond flies in is owned and flown by Carolyn Grace, the worlds only female Spitfire display pilot.

  • ._.

  • Sweet! Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for this. I've been looking for this one for a while but haven't been able to find it.
