As a little kid of 7-9 YO, I would lie in bed listening to far-away singing. When I was sure Dad was asleep, I would sneak out and walk a couple of miles to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Slaton TX. I was the only white face there, but those wonderful peopole made me feel welcome, safe, and loved. As a teen, i continued night visits to Mt. Olive and always got a blessing. To this day, I am very partial to spirituals. This song is a good example of many emotions expressed in spirituals..
