  • the chick is hella lame

  • Gavin Schmidt looks like he's seen one up close.

  • 2:37 - ALL 6 agree that more greenhouse gases will make the world warmer - no debate about that. The main debate actually turns out to be about how much of a priority climate change should be and how much we should spend on it.

  • Someone on this article quoted: 'the usual bullshit about Greenland being warm under the Vikings'. Why do you think it is called 'Greenland' moron? Do I honestly need to explain this to you? Don't make mindless remarks because you insult yourself in due course. Instead, educate yourself with respect to the geological history of this amazing planet.

  • Lindzen vs. Schidt.

    One on one

I would pay PPV money for that one.

  • The usual bullshit about greenland being warm under the Vikings - an urban myth, I believe.

  • garbage debate

  • I learned way back in elementary school, that the Vikings named the land that was covered in ice, "Greenland", and the land that was lush and green, "Iceland".

This was their way of preventing their enemies from following their ships and destroying their settlements.

Does this lady, and others like her, believe that the climates of these two land masses actually switched?

  • michael chrichton: it's gonna cost $558 TRILLION! the world economy: $58 trillion (GDP).

  • This whole debate was quite a beatdown

  • There are two global problems man has created. Religion and overpopulation. Human overpopulation is the worst problem to this planet. If there were "just" 1 billion people, we would fit on one continent and could freely be the complete greedy bastards we are. And nature could cope with that. Since theres so damn lot of us, we should not be greedy bastards, and that just wont happen. We wont chance, we just keep on fucking everything up us fast as we can.

  • if CO2 is really a big problem, maybe we should plat more trees!

  • the problem isn't that there's nothing that can be done,it's that nothing will be done. the greatest producer of greenhouse gases is big industry. are they going to cut production in half, just like that? also, there are tens of millions of wasteful, slovenly, polluting cocksuckers out there who do not,and will not, give a fuck. if things are as bad as the more alarmist factions claim (i doubt that they are) then we are fucked.

  • I wonder if she knows now what has happened in Spain with the green agenda there? They have just told the green side they are cutting funding for all of the wasteful non productive projects.

  • It's like Brenda has her talking points, and she won't stray from them, not even to answer direct questions.

  • Everything? What a moronic statement. Yes, let's all just starve.

This is because these morons haven't spent a day of their life outside of academia, they don't know what it's liek to work in the private sector. For them, money and wealth just fall from the sky.

Of course if that was the case we could something about it. But now however the sensitivty documented is far too low for us to even bother with it. It is not a crisis. It's not even in the top 20.

  • funny that that himalayan glacier melt just got completely debunked. it came from a student dissertation and anecdotes from a hiker's magazine.

  • The GW argument is like one mob head butting the other mob to see who gives in first. I travel a lot. 3 days ago I returned from New Zealand, before that vanuatu before that Tonga! Here in Australia we are seeing snow in the southern highlands (in the middle of summer) - unheard of ! Warming ? I don't think so ! or am I missing something !!!. .

  • this woman scientist is a bloody moron

  • soo agree- the main complaint on their side is that humans can't adapt & co2&methane produced by humans cause massive climate change detrimental to everyone&everything. well if she can't adapt, she can just go & die simple as that. to say u can't adapt w/ all this 'technology' although middle ages people adapted pretty well, would b truly comical. & if u cant adapt&change w/ such abundant resources, u hav no means or reason to survive or live in a changing world that gets hotter&cooler

  • & on the co2 & methane complaint- if they hav the nerve to complain so much about that stuff they should get in a body bag & stop breathing & farting. After all breathing&farting or crapping produces quite alot of co2&methane right there

  • companies are by nature of freemaket energy effcient..

  • Wow, at the end of this clip, again...they are acting like they want to fight against natural climate change! Against NATURE!!!

  • SO What portion of natural variability warming based upon water vapor compaired to total CO2?

  • Lindzen is spot on, the only real researcher at the table.

IF we replace current atmosphere with CO2 @ 1 atm - how warm would it get?

  • good hell...we all need to join the Amish. Otherwise we are doomed.

  • The way Brenda talks is so socialist, "We are wasting energy." As if she can figure out what is better to organise all her serfs to use energy on.

  • you dont need to believe in conspiracies to tell that all the lying in governments and media, all the unlegitimated wars and all the media hyped katastrophies boil down to the fact that some people use the stupidity of people to enforce their power and obtain more money..

  • mankind is so stupid.. building their homes below sealevel in a hurricane zone and then wonder why there's water in the kitchen... they blame it on themselves BUT only for a reason that helps them get more money from stupid and/or suppressed people... nice job!

  • well, what are you comparing our intelligence to?

  • how about spending all that "climate-saving" money into helping people to prepare for what will come and always has been coming since the forming of the earth some billion years ago... climate change!

there is NO climate equilibrium.. it will change no matter what... all you can do is to react and to prepare...

  • this whole climate change movement is such a disgrace...

we force war on countries to steal their ressources, restrict the emissions so that exploited 3rd world countr. cant develop and have to import our high-tech shit just to keep the exploiting going...

all that under the umbrella of people helping the environment by supporting this bullshit!

people think they're helping poor little polar bear from drowning but oversee the fact that they put yet another nail in the coffin of starving children

  • unimpresive debate.

not enough science. I want them to show more facts, more evidence. graphs for examples, ice cores.

how strong of a greenhouse is c02 and methane and watervapor

about temperature changes in history. about how much c02 and methane are humans REALLY responsible for.

  • the anti side could not spit it out. The reality is its going to take the abolision of capitalism if we are serious in tackling dangerous AGW.

  • the lady in the green makes everyone dumber when she opens her mouth :(

  • That's because she's not a real scientist, she's a government scientist. She's a reporter of government agenda. She's a propaganda machine.

  • But creatures are fragile, also. Canada reports huge attacks of fungi and beetles that are killing huge numbers of evergreens because in the past these fungi and beetles were killed by deep freezes that are less deep of late. These dying trees, in turn, increase the risk of forest fires with its attendant carbon dioxide release...fostering a bad cycle of increased warming.

  • I would throw off the theory of evolution if animals could not live through their environments.

  • When the environment changes (gets warmer !?!) is when some animals will experience forces that remove the "nitch" that was what allowed them to demonstrate their "fitness." If the continents subsided below the oceans, humans would have a "bit" of a problem surviving, certainly in our present life-style!

  • Every century we've changed our lifestyles and our environment. Who knows, maybe Atlantis wasn't in the past, but the future, or it is simply a cycle of human kind.

I live in the valley of California, I'm not too worried about global warming, in fact it would be very beneficial for our area.

In my opinion earthquakes are going to be a much bigger problem in the future, and I believe we must be prepared to battle that rather than global warming right now.

  • Favorite Comment: 9:38, "the Earth is as tough as an old boot; it will survive whether we are here or not, whether there is a global warming or not."

  • Stopping all fossil fuels would put us in a year 1300 lifestyle and life expectancy of 55 years. No more food than for 1.2 billion people and no distribution. Max human population on earth without carbon is 800 million.

Will you sacrifice 80% of the worlds population?

  • That is pure fear-mongering blather! To start, wind can generate at least 20% of the U.S. energy needs with current technology, which will be improved over time with greater potential for increased output than oil or gas. Then there is concentrated solar which can provide at least 50% of that power reaching that level as soon as the plants can be built (the whole Southwest U.S. is becoming a dust bowl which means that the skies will be pretty clear for sun to warm water for steam generators.

  • Wind can generate 20% only if the majority of our land is converted to Wind farms, and many other countries do not have the resources or wind to take advantage. The developing world needs to develop, and forcing VERY pricey wind and solar on them is killing millions every year. Why does the UN prevent Africa from using the Coal in the ground? Giving them Power, and Air Conditioning would save Millions of lives.

  • It's really immoral for these environmentalists to prevent the third world from developing. If these man-made climate change theorists would like to turn this into a moral issue, they should consider what is worse: preventing third world devolopment causing millions of deaths at present, or not enacting draconian laws which would prevent some future climate catastrophe which many believe is unlikely to actually happen. For me the choice is clear, our priority should be the current poor.

  • Interesting....

Ekwurzel changed her quote from "crisis" to problem. Seems that even the alarmists falter on their own stance.

I also love how Ekwurzel not only completely neglects to answer the question of the earth's fragility as compared to humans, she supports the "skeptic" idea that the problem is not intensity of climate, but land development.

  • For the record, the catastrophists got owned in this debate.

  • @amb85 when you measure victory by how persuasive one is to a non-scientist, then yes- the pro-science team lost. When you measure victory by how truthful and scientifically accurate one is- then the "catastrophists" won.

  • For the record, the catastrophists got owned in this debate.

  • @amb85

Did you watch the same video as i did? Cause your conclusion is not what i witnessed.

  • @amb85 For the record - thew word was crisis, not castrophe.

  • lol "but why" I missed it. That freedom hating Brenda is so nauseating.

  • IQ2 debate...fairly safe to assume that the audience is intelligent. Glad to know that they fell on the correct side of the debate.

  • unimpressive debate overall, I'd like more science,...I guess I'll wait until a written debate takes place.

  • Question: Somerville says we cant directly control water vapor, and it is the most significant greenhouse gas, but the warming from secondary greenhouse gases causes evaporation rates to increase. Stott says he "agrees" that humans don't control water vapor directly and assumes that means the atmosphere isn't under our control And Lindzen merely says it's not a homogeneous distribution of water vapor. The audience acts as if they agree with Lindzen and Stott when they didn't really say anything.

  • Lindzen then adds that the warming effect from water vaopr coupled with CO2 is unpredictable. I see this as irrelevant since, while models can't predict specifically how much warming this specific feedback will cause, they know it will cause warming. They also don't know the cooling effect of clouds but they know it has a cooling effect. That seems perfectly "settled" to me.

My question is why Lindzen and Stott's points seem better to the audience. Personally I think its just theatrics.

  • They seem better because they make more sense. To those not prone to "theatrics."

  • I think if there could be a relatively way to reduce CO2 emissions and become more efficient the vast majority of people will go along with it. cheap at least in the long term. it's the 558 trillion dollar losses that freak most people out. we CAN'T just throw as many solutions at the problem as we can regardless of the cost, there has to be a hierarchy of application.

  • Ahhh the truth comes out! (around 8:30) It's about people living on the coast. Those people and their expensive houses are in jeopardy. Think of all the ancient underwater cities and their ancient inhabitants that either moved or drowned.

Are they saying that people have a right to a stable, unchanging sea level? Tell that to the old man who built his house upon the sand.

  • Good catch. Adapting is not an option, pparently. Didn' I read that the Egyptian desert area used to be tropical or at least wet? Not that long ago, too, I think.

    Thanks for the head's up.

  • True, True.

  • why isnt this debate on the fron page of youtube...the only real discussion about global warming

  • Because people would rather see an amusing video where a little dog humps an embarrassed Auntie's leg than think.

  • My god, that gavin is really good news for global warming denialists. He has no people skills whatsoever.
