You have gone to great lengths to help Tibetan people, you have brought the Tibet issue to light for many Americans.
But, WHAT was the purpose of this add? of pretending to drive to Tibet? and falsely portraying His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the reflection of the car? Where did the proceeds from this endorsement go?
To someone who works tirelessly for Tibet this looks like just another case of exploiting the Tibetan people.
With the exception of the Alfa 159/Brera's, italian cars don't seem to be able to resolve the front ends of their cars with their lateral aspects. Bravo, mito, and now this one. Maybe it looks better when standing next to it.
i disagree. They are master of whatever-end design. Really now, this car is really beatiful. I dont like the mito that much (mostly because its very high) but this one is a piece of art really
what happened to the sports car delta once was? what radiator grill is that? what happened to the lights? where are the straight lines, the edges, the aggressive appearance? looks like an oversized "y". the predessor was not better, but this is far from being a DELTA.
This isn't the eighties Delta, but those classics are still available for far less money, so why complain?
This is the new model, and looks great! Needs 2 tone paint though, to make it really stand out.
To my recollection, mid-priced cars weren't very attractive around 1980. The glamour of the pre '70s was gone, plastic bumpers and black interiors ruled.
I'm glad nowadays production methods allows for luxury cars at a fair price; giving us back the glamour from yesteryear.
I'm sorry, but I completely disagree. My view is 150% antipodal to what you feel about design. Maybe 200%.
The mire of what you call "retro design" is, in reality, the destruction of all progressive creative energy, and is one of the most soul destroying diseases of modern car production.
Almost all of today's cars whose design refers to cues of previous models resonate with a plastic hollowness and boorishly appropriated distortion of a pure aesthetic vision.
Maybe not very original nor creative to steal from the past.
However, it takes at least SOME effort to design these cars;
Wouldn't it be much more destructive for all progressive creative energy to fire the design team all together and just stick to building the 80's Delta forever?
That wouldn't take any creativity at all...
For now I'm quite pleased with my Delta II, which seems the best of both worlds. No need yet to fork over another 25,000 just to have the latest model.
Of course making the old good 80s Delta for ever would be very stupid. Being a rare car that isn't produced anymore is one of the things that make Integrale attractive. But it was the best rally car from 87 till 92 so 'rally car' is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name of Lancia Delta. I don't want the new Delta to be exactly like old Integrale but I DO WANT the new Delta to be a rival for Subaru Impreza STi and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and NOT TO BE an italian Nissan Murano.
There are some wonderful design concepts of a rally Delta on the net, but I doubt it will ever happen. For some reason Fiat wants Alfa Romeo to be the sporty one, and Lancia the luxury make...
Indeed it's a bit odd to name this one Delta. It would make more sense to give it a more suitable name like Dedra or Lybra.
Its rarity isn't what makes it attractive. I was describing my perception of the eras' characters. Some things are lost and some are gained. There are very few modern designs that inspire awe, yet I'd probably rather have a crash in an Audi A5 than an Audi Quattro. I was just stating something that I felt might resonate with some people. One positive thing I can say about the new Delta is that it's in no way derivative; adhering to the family of styling Lancia has adopted in the past five years.
Well of course Integrale's rarity isn't the main point but it is one of the aspects (at least for me) that makes it so adorable. I see Imprezas and Evos almost every day but seeing Integrale is a very special event. That's one of the things that makes me to prefer Integrale over Impreza STi.
Of course the main thing is that it's a car from THAT era, Just-After-Group-B era not a modern rally car.
This car does not resurrect the spirit of the Lancia Delta and the HF Integrale.
In today's cars, what is missing is the essence of the '80s, when boxes with a fundamental beauty were redesigned with the resonance of homologation intact.
Today, the need for a high level of luxury and refinement in a commercially viable product means that while cars like the RS4 and M3 are almost supernatural achievements, they do not exude the raw energy of the legends of the 1980s.
It's lancia delta hpe (High Perfomance Estate) not lancia hf.Remember the delta of 1979 , it was a car with bigger spaces than the others on its segment. The HF version came on 1983.
i hate to say this buti really do't like the look of this car.
i'm a massive fan of Lancia and all the Italian cars made but it is a crime to call this car a Delta.
come on Fiat your on a roll at the minute why ruin it by calling this a delta, oh and what the hell happened to the god's of the road intergrale's we need more cars like that from Lancia
For a start it suffers from modern day looks, and that isn't what delta' are about, they're about craziness and excitement, this would be as exciting as getting set on fire.
Well I agree with henkkaS4. This is probably a good car but that isn't road version of a rally car! THAT ISN'T THE DELTA! How could Lancia give this name to a car like that?! Company that gave us the Stratos, Delta S4 and Delta HF Integrale is now producing some four-wheeled shits! Give us back the great Integrale that was true Lancia!
yes, yes, yes!!! you and i will go under windows of lancia factory, and scream, WE WANT DELTA =)
kidding of course, but realy, you are right... i'm also rally lancia fan, and i think that this is pure terror over us... i'm glad that i know that i'm not alone... cheers
looking at this footage and the pictures of the new delta, i wonder with the tears in my eyes: where the old RALLY QUEEN IS? what the hell is that? a mini van? my God, just bring back the integrale...
Regarding the rear "Murano" tail lights, the rear tailights was created by Lancia as far back in 1998 with their Lancia Dialogos concept. You're welcome to google it.

Nice, but tell me they didn't copy the rear end from the first generation Nissan Murano (specifically the taillights and agressive D-pillar)

To anybody with a soul who has taste, this is tasteless and soulless.
CorrecterThanYou 3 years ago
If you're a purist regarding technology, I agree. Nowadays build in flaws can easily be disguised using electronics.
But for taste and style in a mid-class car design, one has to go further back than the 80's. That's why I appreciate just about any retrodesign.
Please don't tell me you prefer a 1980 Vauxhall Cavalier over a 1960 Chevy...
