It's the same reason why Manowar decided to re-record Battle Hymns, another album that was virtually flawless the first time around. (That, and Manowar probably realized they could never make anything that could touch the greatness of their earlier work with their current hack of a guitar player)

Dave obviously matured and at 43 realised their brilliant old material, which had been recorded with a less-than-brilliant budget and equipment, needed to be remastered so it would sound better and get the acclaim it deserved. And, yes, you're right, financial gain was one by-product of remastering, but he is a businessman and artist, he needed money from sales. Plus, if you put them in order you can see Vic's face.
