Honestly, this mix is not doing Kid justice. Jimmy would be right on top.... And for the record I think both Kid and Jimmy are fantastic. So there. :)
Its a fantastic line-up but the real magic was the simplicity of the stripped down 4 piece.
Like the Stray Cats people will be realizing just how great the original T-Bs are for a looong time to come!! Jimmies rhythm work was totally defined.
I would also add the 4th album (T Bird Rhythm) to the list of classics. I got to see the original JV T Birds several times (with Fran on drums after Mike Buck left)...Great memories, they kicked ass every time(one time in New Orleans on the 2nd or 3rd encore Kim and Jimmy came out and did a duet around 3am with Kim on the drums and harp in a rack!)Saw Kid Ramos with James Harman during the same period. He's a perfect choice to play with the T Birds, then add Gene Taylor for good measure!
Times change whether you want them to or not! I love the original band, saw them 'live' (they sounded incredible, of course) , bought the first three albums upon release...but I think this is superb!
Sure Jimmie Vaughan is good but so is Kid Ramos. And this isn't a contest between Jimmie V. and Kid Ramos. Obviously, they aren't not better, worse, up, left, down, or right. They are DIFFERENT!

Not a patch on the album version which is greasy and doesn't sound forced like this.

the original band sure is special; one of the main reasons though is the guy at the helm right here...

19 guys on stage and they can't touch the 4 boys that made up the Original Thunderbirds!! The first 3 albums are the standard for post 1968 Blues.
