Pierre, my husband and I love you and your great musical talent. We try to make every concert you give in Northern California. For my part, I would buy a ticket to your concert just for your incredible sense of humor - I never laugh so hard!
I've loved Pierre's music for the last 28 years! Completely wore out my vinyl version Of "Solilai" I love watching him in concert - nothing is ever performed the same way twice. This man eats, sleeps, breaths, LIVES music! His residential seminar is something NOT to be missed! Learned lots, and I'm still learning.
Brilliant stuff PB. Please do an Asia tour! I've only been to one of the great man's gigs and it was breathtaking. I'd love to see him live again, but he never seems to be on tour when I'm in Europe.
PetesNikon is NOT required to like this song. Pierre is without a doubt my favorite guitarist over the last 25 years. At a recent performance, Pierre said he played this piece for a group of Israelis and Palestinians and it was quite a moment. Not your typical jolly Pierre stuff!
It's a matter of respect. He's blowing some bullshit about intonation! Striking a pose in front of a master musician saying he wasted his precious time! I'm just calling him out on his baloney.
Pierre is my favourite alive guitarist and musician, but 'intuite', at least for me, is one of his less inspired compositions. I mean of course the piece, not the album, and its just an opinion, keep that in mind ;)
Merci Pierre je ne jouerais probablement jamais comme cela, mais la musique t'a et son esprit t'accompagne, au-delà de ta technique qui est schtroupmfante.
Pierre is many things including my favorite guitarist...but he is not a Classical guitarist. Might want to look into what makes that description different. Mostly it's about nylon strings and choice of repertoire. But very few Classical guitarists play with the creativity that Pierre has...and they rarely improvise or write their own music.
Thanks for posting this one! Pierre just played a concert here in the Florida Keys, and it was great! Pierre is a very creative and ever evolving musician, and a big influence in the evolution and depth of modern music played on the guitar today. His music though is quite independent of the instrument or tuning. Here is a man, with warmth, insight, skill and humor, expressing his musical stories freely and gifting them to the world. Bravo!
To my mind and ear Pierre is one of the best, if not the best guitarists alive. This video is another example of the depth, breadth and genius of his music and shows that in the right hands a guitar can do just about anything, including replicating the beautiful sound of the oud masters. Thank you Pierre once again for sharing your genius.
I am not a musician and can not speak to Pierre's technical prowess with any intelligence but I can speak to the way his music touches my soul. I want more, more more . . .!! Thank you Pierre, for doing what you do, so very well.
This performance is meaningless and boring, contains nothing that is interesting to my ear. It sounds like he's tuning the instrument, badly at that. I listened to the whole track in search of something I could enjoy, but alas, nothing. What a waste of time.
Read my words carefully "This performance" refers to this particular video, my comments were not about the man or his other performances. I have been enjoying many of his works for a dozen years now. Don't make unintelligent assumtions.
A little late to retract earlier dumb comments; Since he is working in a Middle Eastern mode...are you an expert in that field to even know what "intonation" he's playing with? What sounds "out of tune" to Western ears are the micro tones which are not in American music. The elegance of his phrasing also seems to escape you ...but then let's look at your favorite videos; all machines and little girls in the pool (Molinee underwater).
I don't retract anything, I tried to clear up an apparent misunderstanding. you seem to appreciate his playing this piece. Fine. Go ahead. I don't like it. That is my opinion and quite valid for me, just as yours is to you. There's no need to add personal remarks about me or my preferences that's off the point.
OK PetesNikon; Valid even though you don't know anything about what he's doing intonation-wise? Whether retracting or backtracking; you are the one who posts your favorites; you're a little twisted with your tastes in young girls for an old fart (I'm well over 40 myself). If you choose to go on the offensive you just leave yourself open to it yourself; you're the one living in a glass house.
You just can't resist making personally offensive remarks, can you? It does not advance your argument one bit. I think that reflects badly on your own character and principles. What a shame. My opinion stands, as-is, I don't like this piece. You have no idea what I know musically, or what my skills are, therefore you can't possibly tell me whether I know what I'm talking about. There is no further discussion to be had, except if you could think of something more intelligent to talk about?
I have seen Pierre four times in the Washington DC area ... he is a timeless master who blends art and magic. His music is a prescription for peaceful thoughts - his passion to share in unequalled. Thank you monsieur Bensusan. Ca va tres bien!
Pierre B. one of my all time favourites, shame there are not more videos of him on youtube, as this peice is realy not representative of his work. He's the DADGAD King, no doubt.
Thank you so much for creating and uploading this :)
Fantastic performance - I love the way this track is like a framework for improvisation. Id like to hear more of this Oud / middle eastern inspired style on the next album :)
I hope we can have more official videos of Pierre on youtube!

I am happy to see that he still takes the Lowden on the road! I prefer its sound to the new guitar, which probably needs to age a little.
jmorra 3 years ago
He's no longer using the Ryan at all. He has it for sale now (if it hasnt already sold). I believe he's currently having another Lowden made, too.

Magnificent performance of a piece of music that I personally find rather clueless; basically an etude on Arabic-influenced motives and riffs.
