Well isn't this just dandy! First we had to put up with normal bats. Then we had to put up with bats with rabies and now have the newer strand of "Super Rabies". Now we got bats with a wingspan as wide as I am tall! FML, i'm going to Pluto.
embora sejam muito parecidos com vampiros,os chamados raposas voadoras são frutiferos!!! se fossem hematófagos causariam um sério desconforto a nós pobres humanos! :[
To be honest I'm really not surprised these things are endangered. I mean if I saw one of those I'd probably think "holy shite, the minions of the underworld are here to enslave us all".
Sorry but the first paragraph is kinda BS as you can see these things fighting, and definitely making noise in the wild in Australia. Dunno if it's rare for them to do that in the captivity, but in the wild they are very lively. Funny creatures, I spent ages trying to get some good photos of these things in Sydney :)
They are just magnificent to see in their natural habitat. I remember them well from Indonesia and Nepal many years ago. In the daytime their hanging bodies would fill the trees, they are quite noisy clucking at each other... then at dusk you could see giant flocks flapping slowly to their feeding grounds.
I'm sad to hear they are now endangered due to hunting.
@ozrtrasaken Just so you know, only one species of bat sucks blood, the vampire bat.. other bats are predatory and eat insects, but a great majority are fruit eaters.
I used to want one of these as a pet when I was little. I'd imagine them flying at the end of a leash, like walking a dog crossed with a helium balloon. It's a nice fantasy ;)
found this vid while digging for some of the world's smallest bat, the bumblebee bat. Totally awesome footage you have here. Important to note that the Pteropus vamyprus, like all bats of the Pteropus genus, or the Old World Fruit Bats, do not have the ability to echolocate.
Nice Nice Video. I really loved your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. Two males bats can fight over mating a female bat. Male bats like to attract female bats in terms of mating.

@IrenaScott excuse me and my ignorance, but why are they awake during the day? is it only a cirtain type that sleeps during the day?

Well, although bats are typically active at night, they can be awake during the day if they want to be.
