not too far from Guadalajara, you can go to Aguascalientes, where they have the Feria Nacional de San Marcos, it's pretty cool you should check it out. I had an awesome time there.

I stayed @ Guadalajara for six week as apart of a study abroad program from my university, and it was a powerful eye-opener. No taxes on most stuff -- mighty interesting. The city is wonderful.

you went to guadalajara and left the city? you should have explored the youth culture/nightlife. tequila is indeed a tourist trap & guadalajara has a ton more to offer than tortas ahogadas.. biggest gay city in the country? biggest covered market in the world? huge lucha libre scene? not to mention, if you wanted to to the tourist-y thing, you should have gone to tlaquepaque.

@seanpande A more effective presentation would be to show the bus rapid transit, the subways, the Sunday event (Ruta de Recreacion) where the city shuts down Avenida Juarez for over 10,000 cyclists,skaters to take the streets, the heavy metal and punk clubs, the gay clubs, the diversity of Mexico. Not just what Americans want to see: "Locals" in sombreros eating tacos and drinking tequila walking in dusty streets with stray dogs. The host needs to learn Spanish, not just spring break spanglish.
