Mormon Tabernacle Choir "Abide with me; 'Tis Eventide"

The chord at 3:39 gives me chills every time. I'm a jazzer and I prefer instrumental in most cases, but the sound of a men's choir, perfectly in tune, singing the inspired music of the Church... I just can't get enough.

who honestly would argue with those who do not believe? for those of us who don't understand but are members of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. it is better to not argue with the nonmembers, because at one point or another, they will hear the truth and be converted, whether in this life or the next, instead of focusing on the comments others have posted, enjoy the sweet sounding music of the tabernacle choir. Thank you.

Don't LDS members believe that after one dies he/she heads a planet and becomes a god? Doesn't the LDS church baptize the dead? Doesn't the LDS church hold that an ancient civilization existed in the U.S. and that Christ visited it? Where is this in the Scriptures?

I am a Latter-Day Saint. I know the truth. Just because I know it, though, doesn't mean that others are going to accept it one way or another. I do know for a fact, however, that you attract more bees with honey than with vinegar. If another person isn't going to change their religion for our truth, we have still planted the seed of truth. Calling names and insulting intelligence for any reason is firstly, ungodly, and secondly, not letting us plant the right seed. Lets not hate on everybody.

I invite all fellow Mormons at this time to join me in from here on out ignoring the comment bars on such videos because it seems to me that all it starts is arguments and bickering which single handedly sucks the spirit out of any place regardless of the arguement being made. It is often hard to not get caught up in the opinions of men but in this case I find most people that post hateful messages on videos are brick walls we are punching. Thank you for reading.

Disagree with your beliefs? Yes, but no never have I heard an authority of our church attack another religion unless it is Satanic beliefs. Which no, Catholicism is not, there are many similarities between our beliefs.

@pwthcim I always thought the greatest commandment was to love your God, and second to that Love thy neighbour as thyself? You could be a devout Atheist, Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist or even a punk for all I care. I'd still treat you with the same respect I'd treat anyone of my own faith. There is enough mistrust and intolerance in the world without creating more between fellow Christians.

@pwthcim The Catholic Church has a history of persecuting others. The Inquisition lasted for over 500 years- torturing and murdering sinners, protestants, jews, "witches" and women. Read your own religion's history, it is shameful. I don't belong to any religion, but this music is incredible, spiritual, inspiring.  Whatever religion you are, this is excellent music.

How can we obtain knowledge of God? it´s for studying a book, for gaining an academic degree or theological acknowledgement? No, the only way man can know God is by living for every word that procedeth out of his mouth, by keeping his commandment, by making covenant with him, by seeking the truth in the holy scriptures and I have learned that the learned people don´t understand the things of God, we need the holy ghost to understand the spiritual things.

Your criticism is mindless. Can you compare your bible knowledge Mormon Scholar Andrew C. Skinner? He attended U. of Colorado and earned his B.A.; then earned an M.A. from the Iliff School of Theology, and then a Th.M. from Harvard. He did graduate work at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel and got his Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Denver, specializing in Judaism. Tell us what can you teach him from the Bible? Can you now see how you are a very bad joke?

Suffice it to say that you are wrong in that that while you would not be entitled to the full blessings of the Gospel after having deliberately neglecting so great a salvation when you had the chance to faithfully embrace it and you refused. Of course, unless you commit the unpardonable sin, you will inherit a lesser kingdom, but certainly not the celestial kingdom. Hopefully, you will change your mind rather than taking your chances, gambling as it seems.

As we are ALL his children, these "my faith is right and yours is not" type of sible rivalrys, are menial an totally counter productive to the spiritual growth of either of U! The song is indeed beautiful........too bad that the beauty of the voices is betrayed by what this church teaches.....and I KNOW, because I was RAISED in it!'

As Mormons ask others to do, I "investigated" this church MOST THOROUGHLY....and found it wanting.

Now, I would ask Mormons who want to "investigate" the Bible, and find what it teaches.....do you DARE?

As Mormons ask others, so I ask YOU -- SEEK the truth - if Mormonism, then so be it - if NOT, can you afford NOT to know what is?

@jammies3 This church is about joy and happiness. It's completely fine if your church is not about this--maybe it is--but your comment is definitely not. We invite others to seek truth, not falseness, and most of the people coming to these videos have probably established a strong testimony of what they believe to be the truth. If not, your comment might rob an investigator of the joy that this church brings, which is fact, even IF the doctrine is not.

Thanks for the advice. However, I "investigate" the Bible every single day as I strive to come to understand the purpose of life, and our relationship with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I "dare" everyday to promote Christianity and the amazing truths I have learned by being an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Saying you were raised in it makes you no more qualified than someone who just discovered it yesterday. What matters is humility and love.

I agree, this defines "beautiful." I practiced this on guitar for our ward camp out and really enjoyed singing it with ward friends by firelight as the "shadows of the evening fell." 3rd verse is powerful and moving. Thank God fr beautiful music, LDS hymns, and this remarkable choir (as President Hinckley always said).
