The "F" in f(x) is always lowercase for normal functions.

Definitely not true at all. Notation is notation... Take a Fourier Transform class and you'll see that you will rename just about... everything

No, in the sense of calculus F(x) (with a capital F) means the antiderivative of f(x). Look at the first part of the fundamental theorem of calculus. The correct notation for a function of x is lowercase f(x).
