Not sure if i understand you correctly, "why people still practice soccer?" maybe, because 20 individuals can be entertained with a 20 US dollar lether ball in an open field.Plus it's to easy to learn soccer. Whereas kendo, is an expensive sports and difficult to master, i alone go through 3-4 shinais a year, and seen countsless members come in and sign up at my dojo for 3-6 months and drop out. The difference between kendo and soccer, I think has to do with social class.
@SamuraiChopsticks : Soccer (and even many sports out there) is about entertainning while kendo is about culture, honour & spirit .. Then you easily see that kendo is not in Olympic (not because the olympic federation does not except but because the kendo federation does not want to join)
The japanese are always the best at mastering fumicomiashi (excuse my spelling, more fighting lol) and kirikarish. Should be some great matches this year ^.^ cant wait :D

剣道って、勝負が決まる一瞬をスローでみると面白いし、かっこいいよね。呼吸が伝わってくる感じがする。
