Canada is doing its best to rebuild Afghanistan; by building roads, schools, hospitals etc.; we are teaching the Afghans that the best way to build a country is not through the barrel of a gun; sadly, Afghan history is too much ingrained in violence and it will take decades for them to become comfortable to live life without having to carry a gun.
I don't think chasing and killing the Taliban will help; it'll only make our soldiers targets. Draw the line and talk to them!
Are you saying we talk to the Taliban? Because we're talking to the Afghans right now, but it's the Afghans that suffer from the Taliban. If we leave the Taliban alone, they will grow even more an cause more harm the people in the Middle East who want to be free. We are fighting their war for them, not for ourselves.
@villancico1976 Its the right thing to do because Canada can not sit on the side lines while letting our allies do all the grunt work. Thats not the way this country does things dispite what left wingers like to think. 9/11 was an attack aimed at all the western democrocies. The buildings were named WORLD trade centre. Not the U.S. trade centre. why do you think that is?
@MegaWolfgang Well I feel the united states has way to much influence over Canada and if Canada would of said no we are not going to afghanistan the states would of been right on our ass.All we are to the states is suckers, and they like to order Canada around,I mean come on I wouldn't be suprised if the states tries to invade Canada one day because the states are such greedy pigs
@villancico1976 Thank you for showing your true colours. I supose you suport the Taliban when they are fighting U.S. Units and suport the allies when they fight Canadian or British Units. You should run for the NDP in the next election you would fit right in.
@MegaWolfgang thank you,i did vote n.d.p,and they won the provincial election here in nova scotia, and they have done more for the poor in one year here than the tories ever did, they should be running the country, but tht would upset you right wing fascist, wouldnt it?????
@villancico1976 Agian thank you for showing your true colours. I simply point out that to your eyes the U.S. is the route of everything bad. I was just wondering whom you blame for the sun not shinning now since George Bush is gone? Call me all the names you want. Thats what the left allways does when they have no argument.
I hope you realize that there are plenty of Canadian soldiers who support the NDP. Many of them are friends of mine. To suggest that almost 20% of Canada supports the Taliban is not only false, but egregious. Take your political bullshit away from the graves of fallen Canadian soldiers.
@v3ntulus Now I and all who read your nonsense know you are just spouting out your ass. No Canadian solder would support a party which would tell them to surrender and run in the face of the enemy. The NDP are well known for their pink positions when it comes to issues like defence. Why would a solder in the CF vote for a party which would make them unics in the eyes of the world. You are ether a liar. Or just opposed to reality. Just like the NDP.
I am fortunate enough to know plenty of CF soldiers who support the NDP. One of them was a friend of mine who was killed in a firefight near Kandahar in the summer of 2006. You know nothing of what the NDP supports and you have your head so far up your ass that you apply your dumbass political labels to people and think everyone within that group thinks exactly the same. There are Conservatives who oppose the war too. They're called isolationists. Go call them pinkos.
@v3ntulus That's like saying you know plenty of priests who support the party which vows to ban churches. The troops don't refer to Jack Layton as Taliban Jack for nothing. Their may be Cons who oppose the war but none of them would castrate our troops in the face of the enemy and in the eyes of the world like the NDP would. The Libs put us there, the difference being that the Cons have at lest made some effort to give our boys the stuff they need. Libs, send them there with fuck all.
The troops don't refer to Layton as Taliban Jack. Dumbasses do. You are blinded by partisan filth. I support the NDP. I support Canada's effort in Afghanistan. I support the United States. I support the troops. I support the defeat of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
I know plenty of others - CF and civilian - who think the same way. You actually have no idea what you're talking about and it's amazing you have the audacity to tell me and others what our opinions are.
@v3ntulus You say what you support yet you like the NDP? They do not support the effort in Afghan. They do not support the U.S. They do not support the troops other than to tell them to retreat. And they think you can reason with the Taliban. You are dam right I have the audacity cheese dick, for unlike you I spent 8 years with the PPCLI. What were you? A cub scout once? And I know under which party our troops would be best supported, since I served under two of them.
You're absolutely 100% wrong. If you really were a soldier, you'd know better not to intermingle politics with the blood of fallen Canadian soldiers. You say the NDP love the Taliban and hate the troops. Here you have in the flesh an NDP supporter that hates the Taliban and supports the troops and you continue on your stupid ass little tangent. It's clear evidence and reason won't get through to you, so I've no more reason to speak with you. I'm wasting my time. Get laid, it'll do you good.
@v3ntulus Sure try to use the fallen to stop any common sense argument against left wing B.S. Same kind of left wing thinking that's always pulls out the race card when they know they have no argument. I'll give you this. You support the war effort and you support the troops yet you support the one party which does nether. That does make you a rare one I'll give you that. But the overwhelming fact is if the NDP had been making the decisions 60 years ago, we would all be speaking German now.
@amartinjoe Talking will do no good we tried that for years with terrorists, we have negotiators who try but we cannot and should not negotiate with terrorists, both US or Canada. Slaughter them is what is left to do.
Canada is pulling it's weight alright but we are losing this war! The Taleban who were driven off initially but have come back everywhere under NATO's watch. Now today 29June 09 a curious report about 'Special Forces' armed militia killing the Kandahar Police Chief! Preliminary reports indicate the situation erupted after a group of Afghan gunmen affiliated with a special-forces unit drove up to a government complex, blocked off all exits.....
most of u lose site that canadians have been peace keepers for the last 60 plus years, and not war mongers like ( other ) certain countrys, 1 is search and befriend as in afghan, and the other is search and destroy as in iraq, this is why canadian troops were not sent to iraq.....
Let us not lose sight of the fact that 116 Canadians have lost their lives in Afghanistan. We are doing what soldiers do.... close with and destroy the enemy. Granted we also try and help the locals(probably more than most other countries), but we can not pretend we are not fighting. This is no longer peacekeeping, this is war fighting. Canadian soldiers are good peacekeepers because they are great warfighters. Why do you think we lost 115 people peacekeeping if it was so peaceful?
Keep in mind if Canada does get in a war with china, USA will be right there with you all. Personally i would happily fight along side Canadian forces.
I AGREE... lets put a Tim Hortons outside the wire. You think heroin is addictive???? the taliban will trade their AK's for a double-double inside a week.
canada is the second best trained army in the world with 7 million battle fit troops we are not what you americans think. we are a proud country which most of the world loves
7 million is actually pretty small compared to most countries these days. China has a standing army of over a million, potential to have over a hundred million. Not to mention we're underfunded, poorly equipped, and our airforce is non existent. Somehow we still get sht done, but we could be a lot better if we had the money.
well no I was just answering the guy above me because he said that our army was 7 million. I was just correcting him saying that it was practically 100 000. I also think that the army is underfunded but the government is supposed to boost it by 30 billion in the next 20 years.
It's gonna be hard to boost funding when the economy is going to shit lol...but that's good, i'm glad they're finally giving our boys something to work with.
better equipment doesn't mean jack shit. And i would argue China is better equipped. They spend $65bil we only spend $9bil. Plus their airforce is way better. Their soldiers might not be well trained and shit, but when you can outnumber a country like 20 to 1..chances get slim
for canada the Conservative party won the election and they work on military they said they will bring up the money for the military to 40bil......do you see where im getting at? yea people does matter but equipment does to. we have tanks and shit that can probably wipe out a lot....thank the Conservatives party
yes, you are right about the Conservatives bringing up money to the canadian forces. Without them, the Liberals wouldnt spend a dime on them. But population does count. We canadian Forces have not exceeded our limits into how much soldiers we have. havent you hear the term of ''peace keepers''? Believe me, we cant stand a chance against Usa or China from the limit of soldiers we have here.
including reserves then yes. But out of those 7 million people, how many people do you really think are gonna sign up? most of Canada's population hates the military.
No actually the government just did a recent poll that concluded that 3/4 canadian support our military and want to expand it. Thats why parliment has been increasing our budget by so much.
look it up on google. You'll find the results. Its just that most canadians don't want to see Canada's military stray away from peacekeeping. Almost every canadian asked agreed with our mission in Afghanistan because really its more of a peacekeeping operation even if we are one of the major countries actually assualting.
we agreed to afghanistan because it was approved by the UN and we are fighting under the NATO banner. and because we are there at the request of the democratic Afghan government itself. Canadians dont like seeing their military pounding innocent harmless countries, thats why we strongly opposed Iraq and didnt tag along with the Americans, despite pressure from Washington
hmm.. im Canadian and I dont support an idle standing military just for the purpose of showing military might.. I only a strong military in times of crisis... and parliament is increasing the budget cause we have a certain dumbass Bush Ass Kisser individual known as Stephen Harper for Prime Minister
So what you are saying here is we can magically conjure up an army in times of crisis? your on cloud nine buddy! The point of an army is to so to speak "Stand On Guard For Thee" as in have a big enough and powerful enough military to defend its own country. We are the Canadian Armed Forces NOT the Canadian Defense Force!
ok.. stand on guard againts what? Look back in history, Canada in ww2 had the one of the largest military force in the world by the end of the war. you are missing my point.. simple is.. WE DONT NEED AN ARMY IN TIMES OF PEACE, its good to keep improving our military technology so we dont fall behind, but when it comes to number.. what do we need a large army for? and armed force is also meant for defence.. your last phrase makes no sence... defence and armed are 2 different concepts.. WTF?
Stand on guard for the country and its people cant you figure that out?
so you obviously haven't seen what i have said then. the transition from peace to war can happen VERY quickly.
so your point is that we don't need an army in times of peace but what about times of war? there is no gray from peace to war ,its either or, as in if we didnt have an army in times of peace we would not have an army in times of war.
What i meant from my last comment was that we are not only for defense purposes.
then in times of war we recruit an army.. as needed .. just as it has happened during ww1, ww2 and the korean war... we didnt have a large force previous to any of those wars... i trust the canadians are patriotic enough that in times of war they will serve their country and build up the ranks and numbers.. do you?
Now these days i cannot really trust that. But what i'm talking here is an invasion. Now this isn't really realistic but this is a what if situation, if Canada was invaded it would take at least 3 months to do anything about it, mean while we don't want to depend on the U.S. thus Canada being invaded very VERY easily. unless the US steped in and decide to do a very good deed. but how can we trust that?
oh man you are dealing in speculations and theories, well im more pragmatic.. who the hell is going to invade us? The US would help us no matter what, we are too valuable for them, plus any threat againts us, is a threat againts them.
How do you suppose we defend the country without weapons? How do you suppose we provide superior peacekeepers without training for war? If training an Army was so simple and easy the ANA would be capable of defending itself by now.
what exactly are we defending our country from? what serious threat is affecting us? we do have an army already, and out army as it is now is just the way we need it to be NOW. if we ever arefaced with a threat then we'll just invest in military stuff. easy. if ur so concerned with the military not being good enough? why dont you go and join it instead of being a lazy ass sitting behind the computer all day
Well mouth, let me give you a few facts...#1, you can not just run down to Wal-Mart and grab a few new weapon systems for the war that just started. We have been trying to get new Chinooks for a few years now for the war we are currently in. #2, I served for 21 years and was injured in Bosnia. Have you been to the recruiting centre lately?
hm m nope, cuz i just couldnt care less about the military =p. the only way im ever joining army is either if conscription is put into effect, or if a danger arises that ACTUALLY THREATENS my country and those around me and my way of life, and threaten to destroy it, only if something in the same calibre as ww1/ww2 ever occurs, other wise, im more than glad to stay away from the military and being a soldier, i got better things to do
im sure if they felt their lifestyle was threatened a significant ammount would sign up, i sure as hell dont care about the military, but i sure as hell would sign up if a credible threat faces the country
I agree, I think a military should be for defensive purposes only. If something seriously threatens Canada, I will be at the recruitment office. Until then though, I will spend my time working on curing cancer and other such trivial matters :P
Don't you think "if something seriously threatens Canada" it might be a little late to show up at the recruiting office? A couple of things to consider...... it would take you the better part of a year to be minimally prepared to be a useful part of the CF.... CF members do participate in other things such as fighting fires and floods, we can't all be smart enough to work on curing cancer.
Of course. What I am saying is that my life goals are outside the military. I have no desire to join the military, as I have other ambitions. But if it comes to be that there is a serious threat to Canada, I will be first in line to sign up. That way I can aid the current forces, even if it is after a year of training.
I guess my point was that soldiers join the Canadian Forces for the same reason you would fight cancer..... it is a calling. I am bothered by posts that seem to call into question the need for an Armed Forces. The CF is the same as Firefighters or Police Officers.... nobody wants them around and nobody wants to pay for them until they need them, then they are heroes for a few days. Once the crisis is over they go back on the garbage heap...... until the next crisis.
I understand. I just want to make sure you understand that I don't take the position that the CF is useless. I have respect for anyone willing to devote their lives to it. It is a cause for them. I just meant to say that it is not a cause for me, but if needed, I would help.
In that case we are cool. I tend to get annoyed with the anti military people who seem to spend an inordinate amount of time trolling youtube for ways to disrespect the CF.
if we dont fight wars how do we gain experience for future generation that might need to be trained if a direct threat persists. if you go by objective we are winning the war in afghanistan.. the taliban cant control the country anymore so now its straight revenge for the 400 canadians killed in 911.. so lets just kill as many of them as we can
Canada doesn't need to be praised. We have our own interest in fighting terrorism. It sad, horrible and confusing at times, but it is a mistake to think the doing nothing will mean that extremists will let us alone

I don't think chasing and killing the Taliban will help; it'll only make our soldiers targets. Draw the line and talk to them!
amartinjoe 2 years ago 35
Are you saying we talk to the Taliban? Because we're talking to the Afghans right now, but it's the Afghans that suffer from the Taliban. If we leave the Taliban alone, they will grow even more an cause more harm the people in the Middle East who want to be free. We are fighting their war for them, not for ourselves.
Tyranpo 2 years ago 3
Yes exactly....this is a very tough topic and its really hard to figure out what is the best thing to do.

villancico1976 1 year ago
@villancico1976 Its the right thing to do because Canada can not sit on the side lines while letting our allies do all the grunt work. Thats not the way this country does things dispite what left wingers like to think. 9/11 was an attack aimed at all the western democrocies. The buildings were named WORLD trade centre. Not the U.S. trade centre. why do you think that is?
MegaWolfgang 1 year ago
@MegaWolfgang Well I feel the united states has way to much influence over Canada and if Canada would of said no we are not going to afghanistan the states would of been right on our ass.All we are to the states is suckers, and they like to order Canada around,I mean come on I wouldn't be suprised if the states tries to invade Canada one day because the states are such greedy pigs
villancico1976 1 year ago
@villancico1976 Thank you for showing your true colours. I supose you suport the Taliban when they are fighting U.S. Units and suport the allies when they fight Canadian or British Units. You should run for the NDP in the next election you would fit right in.
MegaWolfgang 1 year ago
@MegaWolfgang thank you,i did vote n.d.p,and they won the provincial election here in nova scotia, and they have done more for the poor in one year here than the tories ever did, they should be running the country, but tht would upset you right wing fascist, wouldnt it?????
villancico1976 1 year ago
@villancico1976 Agian thank you for showing your true colours. I simply point out that to your eyes the U.S. is the route of everything bad. I was just wondering whom you blame for the sun not shinning now since George Bush is gone? Call me all the names you want. Thats what the left allways does when they have no argument.
MegaWolfgang 1 year ago
I hope you realize that there are plenty of Canadian soldiers who support the NDP. Many of them are friends of mine. To suggest that almost 20% of Canada supports the Taliban is not only false, but egregious. Take your political bullshit away from the graves of fallen Canadian soldiers.
v3ntulus 11 months ago
@v3ntulus Now I and all who read your nonsense know you are just spouting out your ass. No Canadian solder would support a party which would tell them to surrender and run in the face of the enemy. The NDP are well known for their pink positions when it comes to issues like defence. Why would a solder in the CF vote for a party which would make them unics in the eyes of the world. You are ether a liar. Or just opposed to reality. Just like the NDP.
MegaWolfgang 11 months ago
@MegaWolfgang
Go call them pinkos.
v3ntulus 11 months ago
@v3ntulus That's like saying you know plenty of priests who support the party which vows to ban churches. The troops don't refer to Jack Layton as Taliban Jack for nothing. Their may be Cons who oppose the war but none of them would castrate our troops in the face of the enemy and in the eyes of the world like the NDP would. The Libs put us there, the difference being that the Cons have at lest made some effort to give our boys the stuff they need. Libs, send them there with fuck all.
MegaWolfgang 11 months ago
@MegaWolfgang
You actually have no idea what you're talking about and it's amazing you have the audacity to tell me and others what our opinions are.
v3ntulus 11 months ago
@v3ntulus You say what you support yet you like the NDP? They do not support the effort in Afghan. They do not support the U.S. They do not support the troops other than to tell them to retreat. And they think you can reason with the Taliban. You are dam right I have the audacity cheese dick, for unlike you I spent 8 years with the PPCLI. What were you? A cub scout once? And I know under which party our troops would be best supported, since I served under two of them.
MegaWolfgang 11 months ago
You're absolutely 100% wrong. If you really were a soldier, you'd know better not to intermingle politics with the blood of fallen Canadian soldiers. You say the NDP love the Taliban and hate the troops. Here you have in the flesh an NDP supporter that hates the Taliban and supports the troops and you continue on your stupid ass little tangent. It's clear evidence and reason won't get through to you, so I've no more reason to speak with you. I'm wasting my time. Get laid, it'll do you good.
v3ntulus 11 months ago
@v3ntulus Sure try to use the fallen to stop any common sense argument against left wing B.S. Same kind of left wing thinking that's always pulls out the race card when they know they have no argument. I'll give you this. You support the war effort and you support the troops yet you support the one party which does nether. That does make you a rare one I'll give you that. But the overwhelming fact is if the NDP had been making the decisions 60 years ago, we would all be speaking German now.

Canada is pulling it's weight alright but we are losing this war! The Taleban who were driven off initially but have come back everywhere under NATO's watch. Now today 29June 09 a curious report about 'Special Forces' armed militia killing the Kandahar Police Chief! Preliminary reports indicate the situation erupted after a group of Afghan gunmen affiliated with a special-forces unit drove up to a government complex, blocked off all exits.....

most of u lose site that canadians have been peace keepers for the last 60 plus years, and not war mongers like ( other ) certain countrys, 1 is search and befriend as in afghan, and the other is search and destroy as in iraq, this is why canadian troops were not sent to iraq.....
johnnie5p 2 years ago
Let us not lose sight of the fact that 116 Canadians have lost their lives in Afghanistan. We are doing what soldiers do.... close with and destroy the enemy. Granted we also try and help the locals(probably more than most other countries), but we can not pretend we are not fighting. This is no longer peacekeeping, this is war fighting. Canadian soldiers are good peacekeepers because they are great warfighters. Why do you think we lost 115 people peacekeeping if it was so peaceful?
cf80to01 2 years ago
Keep in mind if Canada does get in a war with china, USA will be right there with you all. Personally i would happily fight along side Canadian forces.

canada is the second best trained army in the world with 7 million battle fit troops we are not what you americans think. we are a proud country which most of the world loves
nobberjr 3 years ago
actually we only have about 100 000 ready for action but if the time comes than possibly 7 million could sign up. We are a force to be recond with.
Mynamesuckstoo 3 years ago
7 million is actually pretty small compared to most countries these days. China has a standing army of over a million, potential to have over a hundred million. Not to mention we're underfunded, poorly equipped, and our airforce is non existent. Somehow we still get sht done, but we could be a lot better if we had the money.
NorthYorkKid 3 years ago
well no I was just answering the guy above me because he said that our army was 7 million. I was just correcting him saying that it was practically 100 000. I also think that the army is underfunded but the government is supposed to boost it by 30 billion in the next 20 years.
Mynamesuckstoo 3 years ago
It's gonna be hard to boost funding when the economy is going to shit lol...but that's good, i'm glad they're finally giving our boys something to work with.
NorthYorkKid 3 years ago
haha canada would have a chance against china all they got is lots of people we got better equipment (guns, bombs, vehicles)
BbGamehelpbB 3 years ago
better equipment doesn't mean jack shit. And i would argue China is better equipped. They spend $65bil we only spend $9bil. Plus their airforce is way better. Their soldiers might not be well trained and shit, but when you can outnumber a country like 20 to 1..chances get slim
NorthYorkKid 3 years ago
for canada the Conservative party won the election and they work on military they said they will bring up the money for the military to 40bil......do you see where im getting at? yea people does matter but equipment does to. we have tanks and shit that can probably wipe out a lot....thank the Conservatives party
BbGamehelpbB 3 years ago
yes, you are right about the Conservatives bringing up money to the canadian forces.
SeuiJaii 3 years ago
we only have 33 million people buddy...
Alive4Metal 3 years ago
not really, more like 75,000
sgtodeath 3 years ago
how about the reserves though
Mynamesuckstoo 3 years ago
including reserves then yes. But out of those 7 million people, how many people do you really think are gonna sign up? most of Canada's population hates the military.
sgtodeath 3 years ago
No actually the government just did a recent poll that concluded that 3/4 canadian support our military and want to expand it. Thats why parliment has been increasing our budget by so much.
Mynamesuckstoo 3 years ago
that number is off my a lot, actually most Canadians just dont care, not that they dont care about our fallen though.
sgtodeath 3 years ago
look it up on google. You'll find the results. Its just that most canadians don't want to see Canada's military stray away from peacekeeping. Almost every canadian asked agreed with our mission in Afghanistan because really its more of a peacekeeping operation even if we are one of the major countries actually assualting.
Mynamesuckstoo 3 years ago
bull shit, over 60% of Canadians were not in support of the mission, 30% yes, and 10% was dont care on a recent cbc poll.
sgtodeath 3 years ago
look it up buddy and you see
Mynamesuckstoo 3 years ago
among those 60% Canadians are many that dont even know why we are in Afghanistan.. and they think its just another Iraq... so...
Alive4Metal 3 years ago
btw heres a lesson, dont ever just search up something on google or wikipedia and hope to find accurate information.
sgtodeath 3 years ago
look man what your saying is dictator ship not cool man
Timesplittters 2 years ago
we agreed to afghanistan because it was approved by the UN and we are fighting under the NATO banner. and because we are there at the request of the democratic Afghan government itself. Canadians dont like seeing their military pounding innocent harmless countries, thats why we strongly opposed Iraq and didnt tag along with the Americans, despite pressure from Washington
Alive4Metal 3 years ago
hmm.. im Canadian and I dont support an idle standing military just for the purpose of showing military might.. I only a strong military in times of crisis... and parliament is increasing the budget cause we have a certain dumbass Bush Ass Kisser individual known as Stephen Harper for Prime Minister
Alive4Metal 3 years ago
So what you are saying here is we can magically conjure up an army in times of crisis? your on cloud nine buddy! The point of an army is to so to speak "Stand On Guard For Thee" as in have a big enough and powerful enough military to defend its own country. We are the Canadian Armed Forces NOT the Canadian Defense Force!
bobdole92 2 years ago
ok.. stand on guard againts what? Look back in history, Canada in ww2 had the one of the largest military force in the world by the end of the war. you are missing my point.. simple is.. WE DONT NEED AN ARMY IN TIMES OF PEACE, its good to keep improving our military technology so we dont fall behind, but when it comes to number.. what do we need a large army for? and armed force is also meant for defence.. your last phrase makes no sence... defence and armed are 2 different concepts.. WTF?
Alive4Metal 2 years ago
Stand on guard for the country and its people cant you figure that out?
so you obviously haven't seen what i have said then. the transition from peace to war can happen VERY quickly.
so your point is that we don't need an army in times of peace but what about times of war? there is no gray from peace to war ,its either or, as in if we didnt have an army in times of peace we would not have an army in times of war.
What i meant from my last comment was that we are not only for defense purposes.
bobdole92 2 years ago
then in times of war we recruit an army.. as needed .. just as it has happened during ww1, ww2 and the korean war... we didnt have a large force previous to any of those wars... i trust the canadians are patriotic enough that in times of war they will serve their country and build up the ranks and numbers.. do you?
Alive4Metal 2 years ago
Now these days i cannot really trust that. But what i'm talking here is an invasion. Now this isn't really realistic but this is a what if situation, if Canada was invaded it would take at least 3 months to do anything about it, mean while we don't want to depend on the U.S. thus Canada being invaded very VERY easily. unless the US steped in and decide to do a very good deed. but how can we trust that?
bobdole92 2 years ago
oh man you are dealing in speculations and theories, well im more pragmatic.. who the hell is going to invade us? The US would help us no matter what, we are too valuable for them, plus any threat againts us, is a threat againts them.
Alive4Metal 2 years ago
How do you suppose we defend the country without weapons? How do you suppose we provide superior peacekeepers without training for war? If training an Army was so simple and easy the ANA would be capable of defending itself by now.
cf80to01 2 years ago
what exactly are we defending our country from? what serious threat is affecting us? we do have an army already, and out army as it is now is just the way we need it to be NOW. if we ever arefaced with a threat then we'll just invest in military stuff. easy. if ur so concerned with the military not being good enough? why dont you go and join it instead of being a lazy ass sitting behind the computer all day
Alive4Metal 2 years ago
Well mouth, let me give you a few facts...#1, you can not just run down to Wal-Mart and grab a few new weapon systems for the war that just started. We have been trying to get new Chinooks for a few years now for the war we are currently in. #2, I served for 21 years and was injured in Bosnia. Have you been to the recruiting centre lately?
cf80to01 2 years ago
hm m nope, cuz i just couldnt care less about the military =p. the only way im ever joining army is either if conscription is put into effect, or if a danger arises that ACTUALLY THREATENS my country and those around me and my way of life, and threaten to destroy it, only if something in the same calibre as ww1/ww2 ever occurs, other wise, im more than glad to stay away from the military and being a soldier, i got better things to do
Alive4Metal 2 years ago

Alive4Metal 2 years ago
I agree, I think a military should be for defensive purposes only. If something seriously threatens Canada, I will be at the recruitment office. Until then though, I will spend my time working on curing cancer and other such trivial matters :P
hobbes71002 2 years ago
Don't you think "if something seriously threatens Canada" it might be a little late to show up at the recruiting office? A couple of things to consider...... it would take you the better part of a year to be minimally prepared to be a useful part of the CF.... CF members do participate in other things such as fighting fires and floods, we can't all be smart enough to work on curing cancer.
cf80to01 2 years ago
Of course. What I am saying is that my life goals are outside the military. I have no desire to join the military, as I have other ambitions. But if it comes to be that there is a serious threat to Canada, I will be first in line to sign up. That way I can aid the current forces, even if it is after a year of training.
hobbes71002 2 years ago
I guess my point was that soldiers join the Canadian Forces for the same reason you would fight cancer..... it is a calling. I am bothered by posts that seem to call into question the need for an Armed Forces. The CF is the same as Firefighters or Police Officers.... nobody wants them around and nobody wants to pay for them until they need them, then they are heroes for a few days. Once the crisis is over they go back on the garbage heap...... until the next crisis.
cf80to01 2 years ago
I understand. I just want to make sure you understand that I don't take the position that the CF is useless. I have respect for anyone willing to devote their lives to it. It is a cause for them. I just meant to say that it is not a cause for me, but if needed, I would help.
hobbes71002 2 years ago
In that case we are cool. I tend to get annoyed with the anti military people who seem to spend an inordinate amount of time trolling youtube for ways to disrespect the CF.
cf80to01 2 years ago
if we dont fight wars how do we gain experience for future generation that might need to be trained if a direct threat persists. if you go by objective we are winning the war in afghanistan.. the taliban cant control the country anymore so now its straight revenge for the 400 canadians killed in 911.. so lets just kill as many of them as we can
