@YohoYoshi just get a stone pick, point cursor at the ground and dig down until you find some. then mine the vein then use the stuff you got from mining down and jump all the way up

you should make a bunker somewhere if you were ataked you could just go in it and seal it of without seeing anything. and it should have a work bench a stove and a double chest. and be conected to a mine where if you wanted to get out you would just burst through

It's always better to dig down from where you want your mine entrance, rather than digging up from underground. That way you don't end up with a mineshaft somewhere you don't want it.

If the clouds ever annoy you, just go to options, video settings, clouds: on. Click the clouds button (which would be currently "clouds: on") and click it.
