  • I have a hedgie too and the cage you have is fine as long as you let the hedgehog out to roam about for at least an hour. I let mine run around the living room and only keep him in his cage while Im @ work 8hrs

  • I HAVE ONE!!!!!

  • U dont need gloves to hold it..lol

  • wow is too fat hahah beautiful, i got an albino one i love her name Amy

  • This is not the right Form to have a pygmy hedghog!!!!!!

He don't Need a Cage He Need a Terrarium!!!

    He Needs more Space!!!!

  • @Babyblack20 ....No. Actually a platic tub will do fine, or a rabbit or chinchilla cage c:

  • Do the spikes hurt you ? and do they have teeth plus he's really cute -3

  • when i had my hamster i used gloves because his feet tickled my hands too much

  • my hedgie is names gus gus... he is a boy and they marked him with a yellow marker or something.. he is a grumpy gus but he isnt too antisocial.. I LOVE HIMS!

  • I named my hedgehog Sonic! I know... im incredibly creative............ Thank you!

  • I named my hedgehog hedgie, im so creative.

It died 2 months ago :(

  • Can you stroke them in the direction of the spikes or can you not really touch them at all?

  • @tingtong70 Honestly a good section of the quils dont lay flat they kind of stick up... but the ones that do lay more flat you want to go in the direction they lay.

  • on a golf course i once seen a hedgehog so i turned it around and its face was bitten off, the end

  • Search 'african pygmy hedgehogs for sale' - Look at the video's added recently and look in the information to see the website that has them for sale. Hogs ready to go for Christmas!

  • sonic the hedgehog

  • I kept one about 15 years ago but one day somebody left the door open and it ran away. I had it for about 6 months. It was so smart that when I called its name it came to me. I don't know now what breed it was but it had big ears unlike most hedgehogs and it loved eating grapes. Yes and I didn't buy it from a pet store but some people gave it to me and told me they found it in their garden. It was pretty small too.

  • hai! is 160$ pretty good for a hedgehog including the cage which was 20 and everything else i hav

  • are his quills sharp, is that why you waer gloves?

  • what a cutie ^^ i've got a albino pygmy hedgehog i adopted i named him casper XP lol he wont eat the hedgehog pellets with crushed bugs but he loves cat food and bluberries ^^ it's so cute cause then he gets blue marks around his mouth, but this is the perfect pet for me cause he's super low matenance and dosnt bother anyone else in my apartment

  • local breeders around where i live have baby hedgies for adoption at 40-80 bucks. im hoping on getting one!!!!

  • im gonna name him/her denim

  • NOTE TO Persons leaving comments; #1. For the final time I wore gloves to keep him from trying to bite fake nails I had on. He could get sick from them. So stop telling me I shouldn't be waring them. I don't ware them normally when handeling my pet. #2. Anymore comments about glove waring and ur comment will be removed. Thanks!

  • @Knorkooli why are you wearing gloves?

  • is 250 dollars a lot for a hedgehog?

  • @polkadottedponys Yes, $250.00 is a bit much!!!!

  • @Knorkooli I got mine for $120.00

  • @polkadottedponys i usually see them for around $200 but if you don'thave many breeders around, like my state only has one licensed breeder, they can be a little more expensive

  • 1:51 - 1:55 wtf are you doing trying to lick the thing?? LOL

  • @skibiskit Nope No licking a Hedgie here.... he stuck his out that way... so I mimiced him.

  • i am either getting a pygmie hedgehog£185 expensive or a rabbit £20 pounds what shall i get ?

  • Personally I'd say Hedhehog!! *smile*

  • he's so cute! 5-stars for hedgie!

  • your hedgehogs like mine, he wouldnt eat the worms either lol. but he is very cute =)

  • Its so cute. I have had 3 hedgehogs, and i love them! Mine is an african pygmy named Pixie.

  • Yes, I asked that - if holding the Hedgehog against your palm would hurt, because you are wearing a glove. This was one of those "Sorry me bad engrish".

BTW, how small are they, aside from the pigmy ones.

  • so cute!!!!!

  • thanks for your incietful video :)! I hope to have one as a pet one day ! :D

  • My first hogs came from a pet store and were scarred, it took months of gentle handling and bribing with treats to get them to walk about, The Babies two are instinctively rollers until they associate you with treats, they are quiet keen to explore new foods, mealworms wax worms are good treats, Gordon `

  • Pretty animal! BTW Does the back fur hurts you if you grab it from the back?

  • Hope you didn't mean picking them up by only their "FUR" because that would hurt them and is highly not a nice way to treat your pet. However, if your asking if it hurts your hand when u pick them up with their back against you... no... if they are scared it can be a little uncomfy... but otherwise no it doesnt hurt nor does it do any damage to you. Just be gentle and try not to startle them before you pick them up.

  • you stole mah hedgehogs name >:O he's the same as yurs but 6 weeks old

  • Congrats on your new Hedgie... and it just goes to show we both have great taste in naming out animals.

  • hey, good job taking care of him. but, don't wear gloves when you're handeling him. you know how he's sniffing you? he's trying to get to know you. wearing gloves, has no scent of you on it, so they won't know weather you're you or not. so what if he likes to chew on nail, don't hold him when you have those long nails on, or just let him crawl on you.

  • Thanks, but it is not like i ware them everytime I deal with him. Only maybe 3 times a year...... do I ever ware gloves while handeling him! So, back up the advice truck up and get all information first

  • I usually wont hold him when I have nails done... but the video was recorded the evening before I was to attend a wedding. This is not a daily occurence.

  • Sorry turtle but none of my information is wrong... more since this video was made over 2 years ago. There maybe some things people can add but none of this is by far WRONG! Thanks for your input tho.

  • hedgehogs are very social animals you said they werent maybe yours isnt

  • Hi! For the most part Hedgehogs tend to be somewhat independent. They are not like dogs that need or want your attention every min. of everyday. However, it doesn't pertain to ALL hedgehogs. Just like dogs and cats every pet doesn't always follow the suggested guidelines.

  • I've read somewhere that they can use a small litter box of about 6x6 inches. Also, do they like playing in water? I doubt it, but it was never brought up on sites that I've read.

  • First off, a 6X6 Inch. is no where near big enough of an area for a hedgehog. If it were a baby just taken from it's mother, it would be fine for sleeping area and to keep him warm. Otherwise no, the smallest I recommend is foot feet long by 3 feet wide. Remember he/she needs room to move, sleep, eat, and potty. As far as playing in water, they are known as a decent swimmer and it is ok to put them in a shallow luke warm water area as long as your there watching him.

  • Sorry, measurements should have been 4 foot long by 3 feet wide.

  • Sorry, meant to ask that as a question, and as a litter box not a cage

  • Hun no worries lol... for a potty place... yes you could use that, but i am not saying you can train him like a cat and he will go to it when he needs to potty lol... but if u place that within his living cage area u can sure use it as a potty area yes.

  • I'll see what happens and if he likes it. My next paycheck, I'm definitely getting a hedgehog. Always wanted one since I was little, but thought they were illegal because they were 'exotic' of sorts.

  • these hedgehogs love people and sleep most of the day and are awke most of the night .they love to play with toys like you would give to cats and a running wheel is a must as they will run about 5 miles a night......

  • Just so Mr. SMUDGEZX9er knows my Hedgehog never used his wheel *please note there are certains types of a wheel u can use do not use anything open flooring little holes* I have also owned him for over 2 years infact almost 3 now and he is happy and healthy. Also note that cat toys are fine as long as they dont contain catnip. So contact me before leaving uncalled for comments. Emeradam asked if u could treat them like hamsters... u dont use any small running wheels more so hamster type.

Emeradam asked if u could treat them like hamsters... u dont use any small running wheels more so hamster type.

  • What can u do with them? can you treat them just like a hamster with tubes and wheels?

  • Hedgehogs are a different type of pet... They are not really like a hamster ... they dont per say prefer to run thru tubes and they dont run in wheels... infact bad idea. They are a kind of pet you can handel... but more so one that is interesting to watch what they do on their own... such as mine... put a small stuffed animal in front of him and he trys to bull doze it over. U can ask around and see what others do with their pet hedgehog... each hedgehog's play habits r different.

  • Please note When I said dont use a wheel I ment anything too small more so not a hamster wheel. Make sure the wheel is solid.. no holes in the running surface. In the end I never used one because I had time to spend with my hedgie outside of his cage where he got most of his excer. an hr after he became active.

  • Hedgie

  • Aww he looks like he's scared. When they're relaxed the quills lay flat against their body. But when they're nervous, the quills stick out.

  • He was still new to use at this point in time of the video.

  • So Do I!

  • You don't know how many times I have sasid this and still continue because no one seems to read the video information. I wore the gloves to protect my nails I just had done. He had this thing for chewing on them so thats why I wore the gloves. There guys can be held without gloves easily. AGAIN I WORE THE GLOVES TO PROTECT MY NAILS. THATS ALL!

  • hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Lol 1:50 eskimo kiss.

  • hes so cute!!!!!!!!!

  • When you said that you should buy a hedgehog from a breeder. Well what if there are no breeders in your area and can only find them at a pet store with them? Are you sure they can get sick alot easyer? I live in Las Vegas and they are not eligel here.

  • If your seeking a pet like mine visit the website at the end of my video. You may find someone who has one you could get. Good luck on that.

  • Great Vid. I just got my first hedgehog a few days ago... you made some good points in the vid.

  • ya!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I do, i wanna see what her nails look like, i bet their purdy

  • that looks like Jan Brett's hedgie

  • cuz I had the time.

  • You could by those in pet shops in the US? o: In sweden we have to find breeders, wich are very rare.

  • Some places

  • thnx for the info... it was helpful

  • u held one so ur telling me u have one? and she wore them bcuz she either said she had her nails done!.

  • im going to get an african pygmy hedgehog too

  • wow u waring gloves lol go look at video info lol

  • Isn't he too big to be so young?

  • Aww!! I want one sooooo bad. I probably will get one too. Are there any signs I should look for in a hedgehog when I go buy one in a pet store, and not a breeder. Like are there any birth disorders that I would have to look out for? I've heard of something like that, but I'm not sure. Anyway, please let me know, thanks! :)

  • don't wear gloves... you want him to be adjusting to you, not to gloves. and avoid the nail polish

  • She already explained that.

  • lol hes cute lol

  • ur not supposed to wear gloves

  • She already explained that.

  • how much are they in the uk

  • I want to own one too. Is it illegal in Oregon??

  • nope search away its completey safe but u can ask just to make sure

  • Only African Pygmy hedgehogs are legal in Oregon. So you could get one like the one in this video. :)

  • i thank so im not sure look on wikapedia

  • This is a test

  • mine has a butter milk color to it lol

  • honestly you do not need gloves to handle a hedgehog, my hedgie murray is always relaxed. however like she said if you frighten them they are pretty difficult to handle.

  • yeh tats true but its only about for like a minute until you for it. I just kinda set him on a towel if he does tat lol

  • mine is lazy always sleeping. -.-

and dont want to play with me

  • he might be cold or over confined. you should give him much more room to play, or he might die on you

  • Well they will always do that, it does feel rude but just wake him or her up and kind of keep him or her in your lap for like half an hour atleast, you'll want to do this every day untill he is comfortable.

  • are hedgehogs illegal in connecticut? i want one!

  • I agree, whats up with the tongueing?...

    :/

    Wierd.

  • Hahahaha

  • Ew, you sticked out your tounge to it. That was weird.. :/

  • why are you wearing gloves, the spines dont really hurt

  • rashes. serious harm against human over time. illegal in VA

  • doesnt the points hert!

  • we have a hedgehog her name is fluffy

  • should have kalled him "sonic" lol

  • They act like dogs... mostly poodles

  • hedgehogs are fantastic pets! My girlfriend and I are picking one up from a renown breeder in new hampshire tomorrow. Easy maintenance, very social, if kept socialized, varying personalities, they don't bite, only curl up in a spiky ball. Totally harmless and cute pets. A mixture of cat foods for a regular diet supplemented with crickets and/or meal worms on occasion keeps them happy.

  • mine bites me lol

  • sometimes fruits too right?

  • omg couldn't you have given him another name? Like... Bill? :DD

  • or even Bob lol

  • hmm.. these pets are african pygmy hedgehogs.. they are captive bred NOT wild.. totally different thing... i keep lizards snakes and i also have a hedgehog he is cute and friendly and he doesnt even curl in ball hes so tame

  • I read in a game magazine that sonic is An African Pygmy Hedgehog

  • they r expensive.$100-$200

  • Sonic the Hedgehog

  • That was so adorable :)

    Thanks!

  • Very very cute. Thanks for posting.

  • ummmmm how much do they cost form a breeder???

  • Anywhere from $175 to $90.00

  • thxs so much i need to no alot about them so i can get one

  • are they allowed to eat dried cat food? I want one!! They are so cute and I love animals! I'm going to become a Veteranarian when I grow up! ^_^

  • your not really sopused to wear glove it hides you sent and scars the hedgehog

  • what he means is gloves arent recommended because hedgehogs don't like them and they want to smell your scent

  • yeah thanks I'm a bad typer but i'm a she :)

  • My hedgehogs aren't "Sidetracked" by me at all, actually they like to snuggle w/ me and also stick their heads out of their blanket and watch TV w/ me, they are very loving, and very social with me ,, sooo no offense at all, but I personally don't think you should judge other hedgies by the ones you have..

  • Your little hedgie is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute but, i really think its a cinnacot bcuz if it were a African pygmy it would be darker

  • Cinnacot is only a color variation, not a species. African pygmies come in cinnacot, albino, white, snowflake, normal, etc.

  • cute!

  • My vet told me mealworms are okay as snacks but not really recommended as a dietary source because of they're high-fat but low-protein.

  • he's so cute! thanks for the info. it was great!

  • why u point them?

u just to need to look at his belly

  • Bullcrap!

My hedgehog bonds with me very well.

    I highly recommend!

  • i want one sooooooooooooooo daaaaaaaaaamn much... can i buy one on internet?

  • he is so cute. thank you for learning about your pet before you brought him home. and thank you for sharing your video and information about him.

  • I hear meal worms have a lot of fat and should only be used as snacks.

  • good video... I'm going to get a hedgehog next year. yours is adorable =)

  • Hedgehog in a cage?! Poor fella

  • i had 14 and a large yard and they race a lot sooo cute they never bite me and they like to be scratched behind the ears and under their chins! :) great pets!

  • I have an african pygmy hedgehog. She's called Thistle and I adore her. I had to buy a great big tank for her to live in as she is a great escape artist. She has never bit me but is quite partial to a chunk of my hubby. Bless him, he loves her as well. My kids think she is great.

    xxxx

  • NEVER put a hedgie in a tank NEVER.

  • Its a tank with sliding glass doors and she is allowed to run around every day. I take very good care of her, so please don't comment when you don't even know me. She was advertised for sale on the Internet and at least she came to me, someone who tries to make her life as good as it can be.

    Take care.

    xx

  • just gotta love when they curl in a ball xD

  • Yes they bite I have a African Pygmy and it dose bite, but I do like him.

  • u m,y friend have an odd Hedgie u must have ur vet check him out. Something is not right.

  • Know hes fine he just gets scared some times and bites. I guess its like a second defense.

But I love him hes a great Hedgehog.....

  • "One of the main reasons hedgehogs bite is because they are trying to communicate something to you. If your hedgehog bites after you give it a treat he is probably expressing his thoughts about not getting more treats... Unfortunately biting after treats that can be a consequence of hand feeding treats. Other times hedgehogs may bite because they are tired of being out of their cage or because they do not want to do something you are trying to get them to do."

    From a site about hedgehogs.

  • funny! LOl Cause so are you! Wanna date sometime?

  • Most people don't like 12 year old's spelling "virginity" as "verginity".

  • lolk'

  • do they smell bad?

  • ok sched101s... last question i am answering... No they do not smell at all! Unless u leave them sleep in their waste and never clean their cage.

  • Are they good with ppl?

  • yes they r!

  • very well done! :]

Hedgie is really adorable. I held a hedgehog for the first time about a week ago, and i love them! xD

  • Why thank you very much! I agree they are loveable.

  • Very informational and professional. Thank you!!

  • thank u for your kind words.

  • how much do the cost of one range?

  • Can be as low as $30 to as much as $175.00 depends on their demand.
