  • I always use distilled water to humidify my gibson acoustics. no sense in having all the crap that's in the tap water sucked into the wood of the guitar. After awhile the guitar likely will start smelling like chlorine and god knows what. No way I'd put an open container of water inside or near any of my guitars. Either make or buy the humidfiers , less chance of a spill.

Don't over humidify, that's just as damaging to a guitar. hide glue is not waterproof.

  • you should make a video about acoustic guitar strings and the rust/tarnish

  • Can anyone tell me what kind of guitar that is. I really want one of those.

  • @jamiek328

    it came from

    vietnam

    no joke

  • No I mean like the model number or something.

  • @davey4557

there was no ID on the thing at all

the guy had worked over there and brought it back when he returned to Canada

    it was hand made

  • i saw a technique were you do the same thing with the bowl of water in the sounds hole only you put a balloon to seal the hole and you put a little tension on the balloon with string will this work as well

  • @REX05011

    cool idea

  • I used a sponge too. I squeezed it pretty dry then put it in a cheese cloth bag to keep the moisture away from direct wood contact. It took several applications over about a week to rehumidify my Takamine but it worked pretty good. Slow is the way to go. Too fast and the wood distorts. The whole instrument needs to be rehumidified equally. You can't do that fast. Softer woods absorb moisture faster than hardwoods.

  • Wow, you think everyone will have plaid professionally? There's non-serious players. Does knotting it even work?

  • I use small plastic sandwich boxes where I drilled some holes in the top and cut out a sponge to fill out the whole interior of the box. Not as efficient as the open water jar but more safe if you forget about it , take out the guitar and tilt the open jar

  • @Nelion5189

    this need a BATH

  • Dave, you're good at what you do and, there's something about you that's funny as well. Not funny, strange but funny amusing.

  • Ok,well i did your way for one night, saw a bit improvment and sound but having the cup in the soundhole scared the shit out of me so i made a humidifier and its sitting in the case, however as its 1;45am ill build a better humidifier tommorow..thanks dave.

  • @unibrow9

this can take several days if the guitar is really dry :)

  • I have the slightest "hump" in one of my guitars, will humidifying remove this? the guitar is over 25 years old, and it was not taking care of that greatly by the previous owner.

  • @unibrow9

    it won't hurt to try

  • a Vietnamese child labour guitar I think

  • @davey4557 Don't start with putting people down. The inlay on that guiatar is absolutley gorgeous and whoever did it is highly skilled.
