  • i got a mfj-1278 today from a friend. he doesn't do packet and it was his father's, now a silent key. so he gave it too me. looks nice, hope i have all the correct cables.

    as far as not having an rs232, i still make sure new stuff has this. for reasons like this. that said get an actual hardware rs232 card if you lack ports. adapter cables are hit or miss. the card will save you headaches.

    virtual machines are also great for this.
