If you happen to be super rich and in a lot of movies and an international celebrity then this probably didn't make you laugh, but for everyone else (ie the people who pay their salaries and for whom these award shows are supposed to entertain).... hilarious. Just so funny. My guess is that with the ratings and hoopla this created, Gervais is going to get invited to this or something similar again. Encore Ricky.

@hugosalarm, James Dean was exceptionally overrated. He had one movie that could possibly be called good, Rebel Without a Cause, and his performance was good, but not great and yes way too hyped. John Keats wrote some amazing poetry, John F. Kennedy was an incredibly overrated president (he only had two years but he really wasn't that great, just had a sad, early death), Bobby Kennedy was a good man, and Cobain was a good musician but does get hyped a bit much sometimes.

@hugosalarm, I never said Downey Jr. was a brilliant actor, he's not. He's good at what he does for the most part; my qualm was with the claim that somehow River Phoenix was a brilliant actor. "Depth of artistry?" Seriously, what are you a nineteen year old acting student with that drivel? Phoenix was alright, My Own Private Idaho was good, but he was nothing special. Some decent performances, one rather good one, and several subpar; he would have faded away had he lived.
