In 1972 I received 3rd degree burns on 65 percent of my body. Back then they did full thickness mesh grafts. My legs, left arm and most of my back look like hell. As a teenager and young adult it made it difficult to date. But today I am loved, and I am in love with the woman of my dreams. With age comes maturity. Thank you for posting this and God bless all of us burn survivors!
@yogmanee1812 - it didn't start out like that. the original graft was pretty messed up looking, and I naturally don't scar hardly at all, but in 2001 I paid to have the leg regrafted with a Med. thickness sheet graft to limit contractures (shrinkage), and the typical diamond pattern scars from the mesh graft. the result was a pretty smooth scar. I'm still missing some muscle from the front and from the back, and had to have the fascia removed, so there is a lot of internal scaring.
It doesn't look bad. But thank you for posting this. I was also burned 3 months ago and had grafting done on my arm. When it heals in a couple of years I will definitely be posting the results for other people to see. You are awesome!
@MsMajesticlove - at first it didn't look all that great. Then in 2001 I had full regrafting done, but with a sheet graft rather than mesh, and the results were great, despite having a 75% take. I can walk around in shorts and nobody notices, then again, people see what they want to see, so most just don't notice.
@albagubra1923 - we may look at it as something minor to post videos and photos of our scars, but others who just joined our club (burn survivor or amputee) find it helpful to see other burn scars. many have never seen other burn scars. it's great that you say yours look like mine. that would mean you had very good results from grafting.
wow our legs look similar i got 3rds to both legs 23 years ago when i was 12 from a gasoline accident...ive never went to a support group or met anyone or seen anyone else with burns like ours till now....ive been trying to post some pics here but have been unsuccessful......

@albagubra1923 - I can relate. I was homeless for 6 months and have only had a home now for a week. disabled vet and the disability money does not pay the bills
Thank you for posting this video. When I was 12 I was burned. 3rd degree burns on 65 % of my body. Both of my legs up to my thighs, my left side and arm and my left shoulder are a twisted mess of scar tissue. I don't have nerve damage but I do have a Venous Statis ulcer on my right leg that has never healed. 25 skin grafts over 30 years and still I live with a massive raw wound.
Your video and your attitude have affected me deeply. God bless you and all of us who wear our badges of honor!
the videos help.. you don't have to deal with questions if you don't want them, and you get to help other burn survivors by showing that not all burns look the same, but what you go through is the same.
How could a cloth vanish deep scars? Was it magical, I think if that cloth is that powerful as you claim, it should be out ot the rest fo the world to benefit from it too..
wow, that looks like it was painful. Something cool though.....if you pause at 0:10 you can see a face siloutte in your scar, and with amazing detail too. I think he has a goat-tee or shadow on his chin.
My mother had a third-degree burn scar on her right wrist she got from a grease fire when she was pregnant with me. When I was little I remember looking at it and thinking it was beautiful; it looked like petals from a large flower.
the more comfortable you get with yourself the better you will feel about the scars. it takes time, and it's not easy showing the scars at first, but the more you do it, the stronger you get. you survived the worst injury to the human body... be proud of the scars as they are proof you are not weak
not sure if yo still live in India , but in the US it's best to just show the scars by wearing shorts and get used to them, and the people. people soon stop asking questions and no longer really notice the scars. most of the time it's easier to start with videos as they are not personal
Well, if you pause at 0:10 you will be able to see
a Devils face ! which is kind of creppy but also very cool. You know.. forehead, eyes, nose, lips, chin. So yeah, I could say I feel kinda envy right now.
my great grandpa was working out in a logging site one day when the brush fires started to get to big, the wind was blowing toward him so this didnt help,he found a can of what he thought to be water, and threw it onto the fire to put it out,and it turned out to be diesel,a blast of wind threw all the diesel in his face and it ignited from the fire, giving his burns over 90% of his body and almost half of it was 3rd degree burns,he lived to be 90 though so, he did pretty good!
Both my hands, most my right arm, front and right side torso, and both my calves look like that.
I shouldn't even be here. And to think I sat at home nearly 2 years cause disability denied me when i couldn't even change the trash on my own or open the door to my own house. Now that I can pull a gun trigger watch out lol.
You have no idea how frustrating burns are, largely because so few people know anything about them.....even people in the burn wards are ignorant at times.
What?? New grafts?? No freaking way. Mine happened in 2004. Overall 80% of me got frenchfried but only 25% was 3rd degree. I really could use another release surgery but it's in my right armpit, in trying to manage without. Believe it or not ive been back to working heavy construction and I lift weights. I've had a fortunate recovery. However I still have to do a few things differently......for instance I have permanet nerve damage in all my fingers and they tingle 24/7.....
con't........and I might add that this nerve damage has taken me to the brink of insanity more than once. Imagine holding something over your head that weighs 100lbs and having to depend on your other bum hand to make the hook up or end up dropping it. Thus why I lift weights. Personally id rather get a job helping other burn victims/survivors but haven't looked into it. I really don't need to be doing what im doing. But then again I do it better than some that don't have my problems.
everything contracted so bad that I lost the blood flow to my foot, so they removed the fascia, and then a year later regrafted the leg and removed more internal scaring and fasica
it's just an half-leg burned... except for the pain u had i don't think there is something cool or particular in that... a scar...
y should u feel different after that, i dont get it, just cause ppl look at that? i think it's normal it;s human nature being curious toward things that they don't know... no big deal man
legs, foot, arm, plus life long muscle damage, reduction in blood flow due to the internal scaring, requiring an additional operation to remove the fascia, several skin grafts (mine last about 10 years), limited feeling due to nerve damage, no sweat glands (also destroyed), hair folicals destroyed, so no more hair. while I don't have any problem with the scars as I could care less (some people do) it's the other issues that can be a pain (not including the pain getting the burns.
oh i'm sorry, i thought it was just that part of the leg... i don't think ppl staring at u can be a problem or probably it is cause i don't know what u feel when they do
how did it happen if u feel like u can talk bout that
the right leg, and arm were 2nd degree, so you would not see the scars, the foot was grafted, and the leg was grafted a few times. cuase.. gasoline fire. for me the scars are no big deal at all. had the scars been bigger or worse on the legs and arms would not have bothered me.
the scars don't bother me. but a lot of people want to see burn scars close up, so this gives them a chance. now it's an issue when you have a new large burn scar, and getting used to people seeing it, but not an old one
i got in a wreck that burned my face real bad put me in a wheel chair and took an arm from me but i didnt hide from the world but went right back into like nothing had ever happened
Ive got scars on my arm from 3rd degree burns. People can be very cruel. You try not to take any notice of them but it isnt always that easy not to. Now I wonder what would happen if it was them, would anyone be making comments about their appearance? It really does hurt. Anyone with a burn injury should know its not easy as it is so why do these people have to make life even more difficult. It sux.Now Im facing further surgery. Its going to be a long road ahead for me.
I've had 2nd and 3rd degree burns over majority of my body - face, chest, thighs nd arms and yet just wiv some level of treatmnt i've heald wivout needin grafting or any sorta operation. evn thn i walk around wiv em wivout bein ashamd , so thumbs up to u buddy!
God Bless You for posting this - I am also a Burn Survivor (1995) and live with my scars everyday - there IS life after a burn injury - keep up the great spirit!
Watched and stared a few times. Just had my 3rd graft surgery for a 3rd degree burn on my back. Vids like this give me hope that this damn thing will scar up so I can get on with my life.
I know its nothing like that, but i had a first and second degree burn on my hand, hurts as hell, i had to be knocked out with meds to be able to rest from the pain(after 8 hours of constant pain you start losing it).
Anyway, i can say i share your pain, heh, in a not as much as you, but i do, heh.
What type of grafts did you have? I was burned in '89, both legs and feet, my left hand and right elbow, and had mesh grafts. Some of it does not look as smooth as yours. (Hot water from a shower)
oh mine was hot water from a kettle when i was 18 months! this is the first time i have ever been able to talk to another burn victim!! i have to grafting..its on my arm and i have to get surgery on my arm pit where my arm melted to my torso
you can talk to me anytime i know how it feels and it hurts whe the other girls laugh at me or tell me its gross i know it is they dont have to point it out
i ran a burn support group for 16 years (made lots of friends over the years). people that have not been burned just don't understand the damage caused, and the additional damage caused by stupid comments.
gasoline spilled during a motorcycle race and caught fire from the hot motor resulting in burns to both legs and left arm. left leg was the worst and required a lot of operations, but looks realy good now considering the depth of the burns
i was burned with boiling water when i was 18 months old... i dont like when ppl make stupid comments either whats a z-plasty? i think i had one but i dont know whats its called
z-plasty is plastic surgery that starts out by cutting a Z into the scar. the Z cut is then used to remove some of the scar turning the Z into a straight line and stiched closed.
basically it's used to remove small clumps of scars
thank you its good to talk to someone like me...though your situation is much worse its still nice to know im not the only burn victim in the world...do you have an dissabilities due to your injuries?
disabilities due to the burns? well I had compartment syndrome and had to have the fascia removed (covering over the muscles), but the only thing I have now are the normal challenges (nerve damage, muscle damage, destroyed hair folicals, destroyed sweat glands). I had my leg re grafted in 2001, and now I have adhesions that need to be fixed, but other than that the burns are doing well. actually they look great for the damage done.
it's harder for burn survivors in school. It took me many years before I said enough is enough and started wearing shorts and t-shirts. I then found that people real didn't notice much or even really care (as long as I didn't care)
now here is the funny part. It was due to the burn scars that I didn't have many issues with the finger amputations. I hide the amputations in the open and 99% never notice I'm missing 4 fingers even with me holding something. point being.. if you make it a big deal, so will others, but If you don't make it a big deal, others will feel the same way, and if they get to see you before the scars (personality) they forget all about the injury (but they always ask what happened)
two girls made fun of my burn today and made me cry...i wish i could be stronger about it but the entire class was staring and asking questions i was bombarded by people jumping to catch a glipms so i broke down in the middle of the hall way im just lucky my friend was there to hide me with her self from all the kids switching classes
I wish I knew what your arm looked like so I had a bit more understanding of your situation. kids will be mean and make fun of someone else to take the focus off them, and people will always stare or ask questions. don't forget, normally someone knows someone who was burned, so try not to be too upset with the questions. it seems that today you were more or less surprised and then overwhelmed. but now that everyone knows it's likely old news and will for the most part blow over.
some times teachers would have a class on burns and the lasting effects. they normally do it for new burn survivors, and it turns the tables quickly from making fun of the scars to having respect for those who have them
education is the key... most people don't have any information on burns, so they make fun of it. if they knew more about the scars, the nerve damage, destroyed hair folicals, destroyed sweat glands, limited mobility and the need for constant operations they would have a greater respect for burn injuries as well as fire in general
I know how that is.. at first I only had a cheap web cam, then a cell phone, but then I got a camera and took tons of photos of the scars after my last skin graft operation. I now take photos every couple months to show just how that scars change over time, and even have the photos online. I didn't try video until recently.
adhesions are very common. nearly all burn survivors who have burns on or around joints get them and need either z-plasty or additional skin graft operations. mostly it depends on the type of scaring, type of grafting, and the size of the scar. some people have great luck with skin expansion if the burn scars will allow it
Please forgive my ignorance, but how in the world can burn scars be cool looking?

Catopot 3 years ago
gasoline spilled during a motorcycle race and caught fire from the hot motor resulting in burns to both legs and left arm. left leg was the worst and required a lot of operations, but looks realy good now considering the depth of the burns

i was burned with boiling water when i was 18 months old... i dont like when ppl make stupid comments either whats a z-plasty? i think i had one but i dont know whats its called
Catopot 3 years ago
z-plasty is plastic surgery that starts out by cutting a Z into the scar. the Z cut is then used to remove some of the scar turning the Z into a straight line and stiched closed.
basically it's used to remove small clumps of scars

thats hwta i just had! in fact i got my stitches out today! wow i didnt know what they called it but its good to have it done now i can lift my arm
Catopot 3 years ago
glad you gain more mobility
BurnScarred 3 years ago
thank you its good to talk to someone like me...though your situation is much worse its still nice to know im not the only burn victim in the world...do you have an dissabilities due to your injuries?
Catopot 3 years ago
disabilities due to the burns? well I had compartment syndrome and had to have the fascia removed (covering over the muscles), but the only thing I have now are the normal challenges (nerve damage, muscle damage, destroyed hair folicals, destroyed sweat glands). I had my leg re grafted in 2001, and now I have adhesions that need to be fixed, but other than that the burns are doing well. actually they look great for the damage done.

the burns on my arm are only noticed by me (deep second degree and not grafted like the leg). I also have a skin graft across the foot as well.
BurnScarred 3 years ago
I do have disabilities due to my hand (missing 4 fingers) but that was unrelated to the burns.
BurnScarred 3 years ago
wow thats great to hear im actually sincerely happy for you and how well you seem to have come

it's harder for burn survivors in school. It took me many years before I said enough is enough and started wearing shorts and t-shirts. I then found that people real didn't notice much or even really care (as long as I didn't care)
BurnScarred 3 years ago
now here is the funny part.

Catopot 3 years ago
I wish I knew what your arm looked like so I had a bit more understanding of your situation. kids will be mean and make fun of someone else to take the focus off them, and people will always stare or ask questions. don't forget, normally someone knows someone who was burned, so try not to be too upset with the questions. it seems that today you were more or less surprised and then overwhelmed. but now that everyone knows it's likely old news and will for the most part blow over.
BurnScarred 3 years ago
well they kept saying eww thats disgusting and i have a z plasty scar
Catopot 3 years ago
they don't have a clue... I would have told them to grow up, but then again I can be a trouble maker.. lol
BurnScarred 3 years ago
my teacher had to come over and make a joke or two to stop my eyes from welling up im a sensative girl lol
Catopot 3 years ago
some times teachers would have a class on burns and the lasting effects. they normally do it for new burn survivors, and it turns the tables quickly from making fun of the scars to having respect for those who have them
BurnScarred 3 years ago
i told the teacher i didnt want anyone to make a bigger deal out of it than they already had but maybe it would be nice to show them what its like
Catopot 3 years ago
education is the key... most people don't have any information on burns, so they make fun of it. if they knew more about the scars, the nerve damage, destroyed hair folicals, destroyed sweat glands, limited mobility and the need for constant operations they would have a greater respect for burn injuries as well as fire in general
BurnScarred 3 years ago
thw two girls apologizaed today i could tell they felt so bad
Catopot 3 years ago
glad to hear it's better today
BurnScarred 3 years ago
btw i would show you my scars if i had a camera
Catopot 3 years ago
I know how that is.. at first I only had a cheap web cam, then a cell phone, but then I got a camera and took tons of photos of the scars after my last skin graft operation. I now take photos every couple months to show just how that scars change over time, and even have the photos online. I didn't try video until recently.

adhesions are very common. nearly all burn survivors who have burns on or around joints get them and need either z-plasty or additional skin graft operations. mostly it depends on the type of scaring, type of grafting, and the size of the scar. some people have great luck with skin expansion if the burn scars will allow it
BurnScarred 3 years ago
Ohhh, okay. How'd you get it? Looks like it hurt. O__o
HoS777 4 years ago
and yes, it did hurt... lol but after the nerves were destroyed the skin was totally numb
BurnScarred 4 years ago
so you can see the muscles move under the scar tissue
BurnScarred 4 years ago
Why are you moving your leg back and forth? XD Cool scar though.
