Anyone here aware of any tornado warning bulletins that are more compelling than this one? The font used in the word "TORNADO" and the way the lettering is superimposed over the clouds puts it over the top as far as I am concerned.
And there's the even more glorious TORNADO WARNING screen; thanks for posting. For how long did the station use those screens? What do their alert screens look like today?
@BigBadGafilo they used those through much of the late 80's into early 90's. The more modern screens have the station logo, are not warning specific and are animated. I have several examples of the newer versions in my WHAS-TV Weather Archive playlist.
@indylre Fascinating, it seems that many stations boasted some pretty impressive weather warning screen regimes during the 1980s and into the '90s. I suppose that this also applied to the '70s as well, but that was entirely before my time and we never had many tornado warnings in PA. Did they have a separate system of screens during the '70s and early '80s, and if so what did they consist of? Also, do any channels in your market currently use warning-specific screens? Thanks for the info.
@indylre I just don't really like what they have done today for the severe weather slides. I feel that they are a lot better and more intimidating in the 1980s.
I remember this very well from my childhood. I was scared half to death. But I couldn't turn it off because it was the basketball championship! Thanks for posting!
I wonder what ever happened to Gary Rizzo. I remember him on WHAS television and radio. It sure doesn't seem like almost 21 years ago. Thanks so much for preserving these historical video clips.

@MrShadowknight2000 Did a quick Google search. Looks like he's a private meterologist for an Energy trading company.
