Thank God we voted no. This republican movement is such nonsense -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The Australian people were ambivalent about the republic and it was such a close vote for the simple reason that there is absolutely no incentive for the people to make us a republic.
If Australia wanted a republic all the voters had to do was vote yes. they didn't. so they will be asked again and again (like ireland was in the euro vote) until they say yes. Latham is right organised politics is a waste of time.
@BipedalHumanoid I wasn't sure if you were referring to me, I never said I like the queen! All im saying is that we the people got screwed. Besides there is much worse coming our way if we join a south east asian union! It would erase all sovereignty and our constitution would mean jack shit!
@BipedalHumanoid they AREN'T being ruled from the other side of the planet. The British Monarchy is symbolic and nothing more. As an American, I'm happy that Australia embraces its British heritage by keeping the British monarchy as their head of state. Sadly here in the USA, you can't call yourself English unless you're of direct English descent. We Americans are shamefully taught from a young age to hate the British because of the American Revolution.
@1prouddemocrat Isn't that rather igronant of the American educational system? Without us they wouldn't exist for a start, not to mention every single person that was around back then is dead. No reason to hate the current people. (as a whole of course, there are some idiots)

This entire process was a farce manipulated by the No campaign right off the mark and up to the end.

It wasn't a vote for head of state, it was a vote for a false constitution!

Is there a final projection for when the "No" side wins?

when they succeed in actually turning public opinion rather than using dirty tactics to win a referendum.
The fact is that the majority of Australians don't want to be ruled from the other side of the planet.
