Its like the Big 2! or actually maybe ya even can count detlef schrempf, the big three! :D + a pretty good players in sam perkins, and mcmillan and kendall gill were also okay. MAN and they didnt won it all -.-
@mkrauh5 I agree. 90s nba was at its peak. Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Kemp, Payton, Richmond, Miller, Barkley, Iverson, Carter, Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, Starks, Penny, etc. The list of great players back then is endless. Also nba on nbc was the best! Weekend triple headers during the playoffs, roundball rock... Ahh memories!
Wow, I miss those days. Very sad to not have a team anymore. Used to watch every televised game with my dad. I wish I could do the same with my kids. Loyal fans were not a factor in the NBA's decision. Now I'm sticking to college ball. I doubt the UW will move anytime soon:)
@jreimold34 man... dont remind me of those 2 seasons... we should of won the title in 94.... choked.... that season still makes me cry- we had utah and houstons number at that point in time with home court advantage, Seattle always had problems against the big centers- never pulling up for jumpers and always trying to take it to the rack- mainly Kemp haha. But i love Seattle, i prefer to remember 96... not 94 and 95 haha
I loved watching Gary's star rise in the NBA while I was growing up in Oakland playing basketball with his family....his dad Mr. Mean who would be at our games, his brother Brandon who lit up my brother in junior high, his brother Gregory who is a Pastor here in Oakland, his cousin Zerrick who used to fight at the midnight leagues at tassafaronga and sobrante park.. Saw Gary sitting behind me at his brother's church one Sunday, good people
1996 Sonics team was like a cinderalla team. I believe it was one of the best teams in the last few generations. Unfortunately, the bulls were good, and they had the officials on their side. We didn't get another squad with that 96 magic.
Payton and Kemp you see the intensity how many plays do you see like that in an entire NBA season nowadays much less in one game like those boys used to deliver every night Thanks for the memories
The NBA lost all cred when they moved the supes to OKC Fuck a motherfuckin Oklahoma City Thunder
Kemp you was my hero. One of the best PF's in the league EVER EVER EVER!!!!!!! Best seatle intro ever best duo ever that I saw play. I miss the 90's ball, all this soft shit now. Bring it back to the 90's and watch the NBA get love again. KEMP 4 EVER
Ive been a bulls fan all my life, but I really with the Sonics won. They deserved it a lil bit more. MrAlexftw is right, Ive never see Michael Jordan so frustrated in his life.
@Domini478 Ahh shut it. Gary Payton and Shawn deserved a ring together. I didnt say that the Bulls didnt deserve it, I just said that the sonics deserved it a little more.
Absolutely AWESOME! Those were good times. I've never seen Seattle so pumped. As far as I'm concerned, as a duo, they were def top 10. And Payton on his own... Greatness!
@Domini478 there title was the most in jeopardy was in 98, but not because of the Jazz, the Pacers... Reggie had Jordan and Chicago on the ropes in Game 7, the lead 5 minutes to go....
I miss those days, that was our year!Had Peyton been on Jordan all series I think there would have been a totaly different outcome,Gary just made it miserable for MJ.We had such a good team, and If management would have given Kemp the money he deserved that would have changed our entire history and I bet we have a few NBA titles, too bad,its over now.Great times! Also I really miss our supersonics that were stolen from us,eats at me everyday, hope we get a team soon even tho it will never be the same
Chicago without Rodman they dont have chance against that Seattle team in those days, but the mysterious trade gives Jordan few more tittles i cannot believe the spurs trade Rodman for Will Purdue that was really a robbery LMAO!
I'm a Blazer fan but I was cheering so hard for the Sonics that year in the finals! I hope Seattle can get their Sonics back someday soon. The NBA is not the same without them.
@Ballay05 come on now garys a great defender hes not called the glove for nothing he would have made it tough for MJ but its MJ we are talking about how many great defenders has he played against how many teams has he denied championships even if the sonics won all there home games theres noway there going to win in united centre
i got an autograghed pitcure of Gary Payton with a certificate of authenticity if anyone wants to buy it. ha. He is going up for a left handed lay in and its close up. im to young to have watched him play so im not that into him.
amazing series. thanks for sharing the highlights. i miss the Kemp / Payton combo. that was definintely something special and IMO deserving of a 'ship ring
Shawn Kemp was one of a kind, he played Power Forward and Center and he was dominating in both roles and he sure did give the bulls problem......averaging 23 Points Per Game, shooting at 55.5% from the field!! 10 Rebounds Per Game and 2 Blocks Per Game = Beast Series By Kemp!!! That sounds more like numbers of a center to me, after all he did played the center role better than Ervin Johnson....
Kemp was so good. Still haven't seen a big man with his skill set since. So sad that his personal problems derailed a great career. Payton was awesome, such stones to talk trash to MJ like he did. That was a great Sonics team that should've got another shot at the Finals.
I remember Kemp schooling Rodman all six games in that series. All good games. Jordan is best ever, but I think the '96 sonics woul have rocked them for real with a slighly better center or shooting guard.
no. players get better and smarter when they are older, well players like jordan lebron and kobe. they all get better w age. jordan was actually unstoppable in his second year where he averaged 37ppg. how can you call a 3 peat slow... its a 3 peat and he did it twice. ..
@willsmackyoudown. Actually 1996 may have been MJ's greatest yr. In the summer of 1995 he trained his butt off mainly because he got embarrassed in 1995 playoffs. Plus since he rested from NBA ball in 1994 and 90% of 1995, he was fresher. But really MJ his whole career with the Bulls was top notch (remember 2nd 3-peat he never missed a game, so he was in the best shape of his life).
Easily one of the best 60 players in the history of the NBA!!!! If he worked a little more on outside game, fundamentals, floor awareness, and attitude, he would've been the greatest power forward ever!!!
@TheMackdaddy007 MJ's worst playoff series was better than most and because we are speaking of MJ he successfully got 6 rings by where he was the main component on the team. the mitten was just a washed up role player so give me a break that was charity. he was a good player but he just wasn't good enough especially when they met up with MJ.
@TheMackdaddy007 When did i mention he wasn't going to be in the hall of fame?? NEVER!!!! I did say his mouth was bigger than his game and it's true. The seattle unsupersonics were celebrating like they won the series and as i said about his mouth he got cocky and started to move it which is what all losers do and forgot to finish the series THEN he could of moved all he wanted including the loud mouth. Try to stay on the subject next time.
@rob23molina First of all chill with all those capital letters and !!!! their pointless, you misunderstood. Second when did i say you mentioned he wasn't going to be in the hall of fame? Third, dont call Gary Payton the "mitten." Thats corny as hell
What is sad is that if George Karl wasn't such a waste of space, he wouldn't of let that trading Kemp for Vin Baker go through and the sonic would've won the championships after the Bulls fell apart.
yeah, we all know the Bulls won it in 6, but in games 4 and 5 the Sonics dominated the Bulls...Kemp was toying with Rodman, he dominated the paint and boards...but after the Bulls went up 3- 0, they sort of relaxed and went into cruise control...the Sonics took advantage of that and just controlled the next 2 games...
Explain Pete Maravich being in the hall? That dude was good for 2 things: scoring and turnovers (mostly turnovers) and you wanna keep Kemp out of it? PUHLEASE!!!!
@Paragon231 hey i didn't or wouldn't of picked either one. kemp had no staying power no discipline that's why his career was short like him in the big games.
@Paragon231 LACK OF DISCIPLINE all the better players adjust to the game. Of course it isn't how long your career last but it does help to have a long career. And they showed what they did with it, they were easily satisfied and gave up instead of changing their game.
@Paragon231 It's sad to say, but if Kemp had kept himself clean, there would be no question about his HOF worthiness. I'm a huge Kemp fan, but he made his own bed.
@Tyrone2184 yea that was an awsome team. When I play a 96 basketball video game I like to be the sonics. they would have beat the magic or any other team from the eastern conference
hell watching this you would have think the sonics won the damn title. at the end you should have shown them breaking down and MJ and the Bulls highlights and then them celebrating the title. that would have gotten you a 5 star rating, now you get a 3. lol
lol i remeber how i use to jus wish sum 1 would jus knock the shit out of gp for runnin his mouth ..i ain gonna lie the guy is good but he would get his ass beat if he came up talkin trash to the wrong dude
It may be nice to have GP and Kemp be the best dynamic duo of the NBA ever, but there's also Malone and Stockton...........either way Kemp and GP were still awesome.
Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin , I'm really happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but The Glove and The Rain Man are the best dynamic duo of all time...OF ALL TIME!
Yet another victim to fall to the greatness of the Jordan era. Jordan killed so many great players championship dreams. Barkley, Karl Malone, Clyde Drexler the list goes on. But I don't know how somebody can say the sonics should have won this series when they barely won the 2 games and really almost got swept. Plus this was the season the bulls got 70 something wins too so they definitely were a better team that year.
watching this confirms that Rodman was a pretty overrated defender on the Bulls. He got his rebounds but folded every year in the finals. That's why Kemp and then Malone destroyed him three years in a row.
Alvin Robertson won it in either '85 or '86. Jordan won it in '88, along with MVP the same year. In the last 20 years, Payton is the only guard to do it.
Fantastic video!
What is the name of the song?

@Paragon231 yeah true dat. after the 99-00 season he was washed up. doing drugs and shit.
DonWon612 1 year ago
@Paragon231 That's funny as hell. What did kemp do to deserve to be in the hall of fame?? Did he win at least 1 ring? NO!!!
rob23molina 1 year ago
@rob23molina
Explain Pete Maravich being in the hall? That dude was good for 2 things: scoring and turnovers (mostly turnovers) and you wanna keep Kemp out of it? PUHLEASE!!!!
Paragon231 1 year ago
@Paragon231 hey i didn't or wouldn't of picked either one. kemp had no staying power no discipline that's why his career was short like him in the big games.
rob23molina 1 year ago
@rob23molina
You might as well keep Dominique Wilkins out as well
Kemp had more playoff success and as soon as Wilkins athletecism faded he became an only average player
It's not about how long your career is, it's about what you do with it
Paragon231 1 year ago
@Paragon231 LACK OF DISCIPLINE all the better players adjust to the game. Of course it isn't how long your career last but it does help to have a long career. And they showed what they did with it, they were easily satisfied and gave up instead of changing their game.
rob23molina 1 year ago
@Paragon231 Especially since he was the best player in games 4 and 5 of the finals in 1996.

@Paragon231 I don't think kemp is in the HOF
Hoopfanify 1 year ago
@Paragon231 It's sad to say, but if Kemp had kept himself clean, there would be no question about his HOF worthiness. I'm a huge Kemp fan, but he made his own bed.
hoopfan71 1 year ago
Kemp was my favorite player growin' up, but I'm from Chicago and I am a Bulls fan 4 life... I was kinda torn that year

Man, that was supposed to be our year to win the title. But Jordan company got in the way. We will have the Sonics back in Seattle one day.
JellyBean2144 2 years ago 31
@JellyBean2144 That was the Bulls that won 72 games that year. Any other team from the East, we are the 96 NBA Champs
Tyrone2184 1 year ago
@Tyrone2184 yea that was an awsome team. When I play a 96 basketball video game I like to be the sonics. they would have beat the magic or any other team from the eastern conference
sanjacraven36 1 year ago
@Tyrone2184 true. the bulls were just too dominant. we almost came back anyways.
jonbrakke 1 year ago
@JellyBean2144 followed the sonics the whole season that year. would have loved for them to take it down. mj was too good tho...
KillerDiaguR 1 year ago
damn i wish the sonics still existed! one of the teams i followed back in th e90's.

jattgill 2 years ago 7
yup, they were my fav team to watch other then my orlando magic, but they were awesome. payton and kemp were absolutley the best!
mattc941 2 years ago
hell watching this you would have think the sonics won the damn title. at the end you should have shown them breaking down and MJ and the Bulls highlights and then them celebrating the title. that would have gotten you a 5 star rating, now you get a 3. lol

It may be nice to have GP and Kemp be the best dynamic duo of the NBA ever, but there's also Malone and Stockton...........either way Kemp and GP were still awesome.

great pg.. too bad they dint nominate him for the 50 greatest of all time.. ;/
MrTehbigcheese 2 years ago
held MJ to his lowest finals scores ..., he was that good, really competent 20 PPG scorer too ...
theWayofstrategy 2 years ago
MJ still averaged 27 ppg but GP did do well holding him to something like 41.5 fg %
nutsack666 2 years ago
The Glove...... the best defensive point guard of all times!!!! Thanks for your play Gary.... you are my dream!!!!!
fromano80 2 years ago
Still was the toughest series the bulls had to go through in my book.
BiggpappaSmurph 2 years ago
Yet another victim to fall to the greatness of the Jordan era. Jordan killed so many great players championship dreams. Barkley, Karl Malone, Clyde Drexler the list goes on. But I don't know how somebody can say the sonics should have won this series when they barely won the 2 games and really almost got swept. Plus this was the season the bulls got 70 something wins too so they definitely were a better team that year.
SmoothCatBeats 2 years ago
watching this confirms that Rodman was a pretty overrated defender on the Bulls. He got his rebounds but folded every year in the finals. That's why Kemp and then Malone destroyed him three years in a row.
demoncleaner45 2 years ago
malone was actually held significantly under his regular season ppg average against rodman.
mdamian1984 2 years ago
not really: in 1997 Malone averaged 28.6 in the finals vs. 27.4 for the season. in 1998 it was 30.0 vs. 27.0
demoncleaner45 2 years ago
malone in the finals:
97: 23.8 ppg
98: 25 ppg
i hate kids that make up stats.

Gary Payton was one of the best point guards ever.
SuckMyPenisAllDay69 2 years ago 2
Only guard in the last 20 years to win Defensive Player of the Year.
FuturePBABowler 2 years ago 2
i thought Jordan and Payton were the only guards EVER to win DPoY
clickpick92 2 years ago
Alvin Robertson won it in either '85 or '86. Jordan won it in '88, along with MVP the same year. In the last 20 years, Payton is the only guard to do it.
