  • The German language version sound a lot better!!!

  • "Falco began his solo career in 1982 with the LP Einzelhaft; his "Der Kommissar," which fused techno-pop with rapped German lyrics, became a major European hit and a club favorite in the U.S., with a cover version by the group After the Fire reaching the Top Five in 1983."

Off the Falco page on AllMusic.

I was there, but I didn't know this was a cover at the time.

  • @ytgg405 Most people didn't know it was a cover... sadly.

  • This isn't Falco, this is "After the Fire". Don't beileve me it should be in the related videos.

  • Great song about cocaine.

  • This sounds funny in english lol.

  • Falco did record this in German and english.

  • @mongocrushyou Just in German actually.

  • Wait.....the English version makes it seem like it was written for English. The same words that rhyme in English don't neccessarily rhyme in German, do they? I love both versions.

  • Dude was rapping in German back then. Just shows Germans will try anything! A white guy rapping in German. To me the rap wasn't that good because I never paid attention to what he was saying, I just liked the hook. Anyway it is a cool song, I remember it mainly because it was in the movie "Grandview USA" one of the best movies ever made about coming of age and it had a great cast. Jamie Lee Curtis, Patrick Swayze and C. Thomas Howell.

  • The ultimate early MTV song...but where is the video?

  • CHA! CHA! CHA! CHA! CHA! CHA!

  • Ahhhhh... Clubbin' days. Dance baby, dance... drink drink drink... dance dance dance... drink drink drink... fall down...

  • Loved this song!!!

  • Even though they sung it better, Falco's original has a special place in my heart.

  • love falco.

  • This is the version I like best, and its because I don't speak German.

  • this aint falco

  • This isn't Falco, this is After the Fire, a British band that covered Falco's Der Kommisar.

  • long live the Germanic people and may the Empire protect them whatever threat may come. God bless the Pope.

  • @vasallizinni the pope is the anti-christ and there is no empire anymore. as for the other bit. Long live EVERYONE

  • great song

  • ..and it´s not the exact translation, but anyway it´s still a good song.

  • this "don´t turn around " sounds so stupid, much better in german.ya deutsch!

  • @MRbreakthroughx Ya deutsch ist zer goot.

  • I LOOOOOOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!

  • Time to whip out the air guitar<3

  • I don't care who it is- it's freakin awesome!

  • Falco never recorded this in English. This is a cover by the British band After The Fire.

  • @DallasHammster

they have covered it very good, i´ve to say ;)

  • what's this song about again?

  • AUSTRIA !!!

  • First heard this on Family Guy.

  • this isnt Falco!!! is After The fire!!

  • Österreicher sprechen Deutsch

  • Falco, was an Austrian pop and rock musician and rapper. He had several international hits: "Der Kommissar", Rock Me Amadeus, Vienna Calling, Jeanny, The Sound of Musik, and posthumously, Out Of The Dark. He is the first and only artist to date whose principal language was German to score a number-one hit in the United States with "Rock Me Amadeus". His estate claims he has sold 40 million albums and 20 million singles to date, which makes him one of the best selling Austrian singers ever

  • @1234albert100 thanks wikipedia man

  • @1234albert100 WHAT ABOUT 99 LUFT BALLONS

  • @1234albert100 NOT!!! SCORPIONS!! Primary language Germanic, Album, love at first sting!

  • @1234albert100 neat

  • kommissar means commissioner

  • Jesus Christ, are people that dumb?? Falco did it FIRST, BETTER, and GODDAMN IT HE WAS AUSTRIAN...not German...this is just a sloppy imitation, and that guitar in the middle is just JARRING...UGH

  • @haller1929 you are right!!! btw he is Austrian but his song is in German.

  • @downloads2012

People in Austria speak German, because Austria at one time was part of the Perisan states of Germany in 17th century.

  • @WarshipAngelus yes I knew that, thats what I wanted to tell him...

  • @WarshipAngelus Persia is modern day Iran. You probably meant "Prussian".

  • @hanSUMdevL

"Yes!" Thanks, for the spell check.

  • Jesus Christ, are people that dumb?? Falco did it FIRST, BETTER, and GODDAMN IT HE WAS AUSTRIAN...not German...

  • @haller1929 Like Hitler :)

  • @Bill7366

I laugh in thine general direction good sir.

Austria spoke German before Germany was a country. So did the rest of the German kingdoms.

  • This is After The Fire from the 80's...but as an aside if it were Falco he spoke German which if you history buffs out there will remember Hitlers Germany invaded Austria in WW II so in Austria they speak German.

  • I actually like this version 100 times better than Falco's. God bless ATF.

  • OMFG !!!! I HAVEN'T LISTENED TO THIS SONG SINCE I WAS IN SCHOOL !!!! I FUKING LOVE THIS SONG !!!! IT'S SO AWESOME LISTENING TO THIS SONG AGAIN, AFTER SOO MANY FUKING YEARS !!!! I'M SO GLAD I WAS BORN IN A YEAR, WHERE I WAS ABLE TO LISTEN TO ALL OF THE GREATEST MUSIC, EVER CREATED !!!! YYYYEEEEAAAAHHHH !!!!

  • This isn't Falco... It's, after the fire. Stop misleading

  • @Cookielover460 Austrians speak German.

  • The original of the song is sung in German by Falco, After the Fire did a cover in English, which is this version of the song. I prefer it in the original form personally, but both variations are good. Unfortunately, the original didn't sell well in the states, and it wasn't well known on the American charts until it was redone in English.

  • This is after the fire.

  • german version is better

  • this is not Falco

  • Dammit, I turned around :(.

  • Ach ja! Da ist Musik.

  • Austrian is actually LOW German -- a dialect of High German. Alles Klar?

  • is this after the fire ? . -. and not falco ..

  • @XAdiehSugarlessX this is definately(definatively) Falco

    Timothy

    :o)

  • Why did I think that there was a band called Der Kommissar singing this song, and not Falco all these yrs?? Duh. lol So, Falco had two hits in the '80's, "Rock Me Amadeus" (which I also liked) and this?

  • The original language is neither Austrian nor German, it's Deutsch

    As in Spreken ze Deutsch.

  • @DJ1027A Deutsch is german......thats just how you say german in german

  • This version of the song is by an English band called After the Fire. It is a cover version of the song Austrian pop-star Falco recorded the year before in the German. Just wiki the song title.

  • This song don't make sense but love the beat and it's full 80's!!

  • fail, not good and this is not falco stupid track very very bad :(

  • isna't this rick james SUPER FREAK!.

  • This isn't Falco this is the version that After The Fire did

  • TRUE... HE WAS AUSTRIAN.

BUT THAT IS A ANOTHER FORM OF GERMAN, ISN'T IT.

    SAME ROOTS...

  • well guys don't fight for this song im spa~Nish and i just to listen this since i was 10 years old,and i don't undertand a thing but in my personal opinion both version are a masterpice, thank you Falco for this song you make me go back to my memoir when i was in high school,.with this song i met a lot of girls.

  • THIS IS NOT FALCO!!!! THIS IS ATF!!!

  • @milw189 the both actually recorded the same song in the early 80's and I love both versions~~

  • @AlienVare How stupid can you get???

  • @milw189 THIS IS FALCO english version.

  • Archie Bunker for president

  • Better recording and instrumentation on this one. I love both though. And had both albums.

  • This is NOT Falco! It's After the Fire! Get your facts straight,Please, before you post this!

  • Why did they change the mix?

  • In all honesty, I think that the English version sounds better (which is kind of rare for songs when they're translated from their original).

  • i like listening to this song because i speak german a little and it's a really good german song that i understand(in most parts) p.s. everyone-don't turn around because elmo's there! he knows where u live!!!!

  • @scarrmd. I had the After the Fire album in vinyl back in the day. I had the Falco versions as well. VH1 Classic plays the ATF video on their one hit wonders show all of the time. Falco's version is in German with only a few American catch-phrases spoken in english. iTunes is wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

  • This is not Falco it's ATF or After the Fire...

  • @hrmerr - proof? I downloaded this off itunes and it says Falco dude.

  • it was funny in family guy :D

  • Ain't this After the Fire?

  • @SotDStudios247 yes, its After the Fire. English cover of Falco's song.

  • Hmm, yeah. Austrian/German version is much better.

  • this is from after the fire

  • 1 person got caught by the Kommisar

  • Damn good!!!

  • it makes more sense in german haha

  • @dozeyluvr WANNA BUY SOME STUFF MAN? The gratitous English in it made it weird.

  • RIP Falco.

  • Something's wrong with the g-diffuser unit.

  • WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too long of an intro

  • the original is not german is austria, Falko is an austria. Der Kommissar means detective

  • the original is not german is austria, Falko is an austria

  • @Cookielover460 No, the original is still in german, since austrian language doesn't exist.

  • @AlienVare so all the songs from usa are really from britain????

  • @AlienVare what should this mean???!! Of course exist austrian language!! Or do you think that somebody from germany understand our slang???!!!! Austrian language exists..., and we proud on our slang!! No other slang is complicated like our austrian!!

  • @AlienVare Lmfaooooooo u made my day with the last part but yes Falco is austrian but still the original is in german because his father was German mom Austrian.

  • @AlienVare Thank-you for clearing up what language it is. LOL @ since austrian language doesn't exist.

  • @AlienVare claro es de austria pero habla el aleman asi es q es el idioma aleman no hay problema

  • @AlienVare it does exist!!! I am from austria and I do speak austrian!!!!!!

  • @TheAleX1995X It's more/less a dialect of German.

  • @TheAleX1995X Surely you mean Austro-Bavarian.

  • @AlienVare .........Das ist treue, meine freund.

  • @AlienVare I speak German and I find it really difficult to understand Austrian German in comparison to Swiss German or German German.

  • @AlienVare it's called Austrian German

    DUH

Hate to see posts from nimrods. It's called GOOGLE!!!!!

  • @AlienVare That's not what Obama says.

  • @Cookielover460 last time i check Austrians speak german

  • @Cookielover460 : hey du amateur ;D wenn du schon dafür kämpst, dass falso österreicher war, solltest du wenigstens wissen, dass man in mit "C" schrieb! :DD

  • @Cookielover460 Dumbass, they speak German in Austria. There is no such language as "Austrian"

  • Respond to this video... This is NOT FALCO. You should change the title.

  • @Cookielover460 In Austri they're speaking german...

  • @Cookielover460 Falco, not Falko.

  • @Cookielover460 LOL, thanks that made my day.

  • @Cookielover460 He is the first and only artist to date whose principal language was German to score a number-one hit in the United States with "Rock Me Amadeus". Get your facts right....

  • Falco's German vesrion is better.

  • One person turned around!

  • @kobraf150 BOOOOOO

  • It's FALCO, not After the Fire so AlienVare has it right. I should know because I was living in Germany and Falco did it first and then After the Fire made an English version. Falco did it in both German and English. Ok, so apologize to AlienVare everyone who didn't have THEIR facts straight! ;-)

  • This is not Falco, this is After The Fire's cover. Get your title straight.

  • Greatest song EVER

  • Prefiero como canta en alemán

I like it better in German =0P

  • it's not falco it's after the fire

  • thumbs up if family guy brought you here.german guy singing this

  • why does the english version have a different production sound? (one that is in my opinion better sounding but that could just be nostalgia)

  • @runitecastle

Because this is technically a cover by an English band, this isn't Falco.

  • @GraysonMusic ahhh. insightful. thank you!

  • um,that isn't Falco but After The Fire, doesn't seem to have the same zest as the original :-(

  • Falco was austrian

  • AlienVare is in town!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sorry about the repeat peoples. and i should probly check my capitals before i hit the Post button!

  • AUSOME!!! Are you German?

  • AUSOMe! I love it! Are you German?

  • LOVE THIS SONG! Can anyone translate what Der Kommissar means?

  • @throttlehard It's meaning (Der Kommissar) is possibly "detective" or "police chief", as the official Der Kommissar video implies, but literally, it means "Commissioner".

  • @AlienVare

    Ah, I see. THNX!

  • @AlienVare

Policechief.......hm hm ........Berlin wall felt down in 1989....and the song is from 1982.....so I asume that commisar here in that song is stasi agent....who is sniffing around the people partying outside....

That is just my point of view......as a citizen of ex comunist country ;)

  • @AlienVare i could mean police commissioner

  • @AlienVare It pretty much means the commisioner or officer.

  • @AlienVare I think in this song der kommissar is death.

  • @Nicholad99 i agree

  • @AlienVare Commissar is one who attempts to change and mold public opinion. Part of the Communist party, leader of a commissariat until about 1946 Russia.

  • Comment removed

  • @AlienVare What's "alles klar" mean, then? "All clear"?

  • @hypnodance generally means everything is clear, but its kinda like slang

  • @AlienVare Commissioner is a rank of the police.

  • @throttlehard It actually means "the sheriff"

  • @silvertatt ctually means "the commissioner

  • @throttlehard The song is about living life in the fast lane and partying, but watch out for the cops. If you see falco in some of his videos he puts the thumb to the side of the nose and makes a sweeping motion, meaning snorting cocaine. just my take.

  • @throttlehard "The Commissioner"

  • @throttlehard der kommisar means the Commissioner

  • @throttlehard The Commisionar, which is the German equivalent of Major General.

  • @throttlehard A commissar was a Communist officer who was in charge of shaping public opinion. Head of a commissariat in Russia until about 1946

  • @throttlehard It means The Commissioner

  • @throttlehard the commissioner (did i spell that right???)

  • @throttlehard well a Kommisar was a russian general who made sure noone ran. if they did he would order them killed.

  • @throttlehard The Commissioner.

  • I'm sure it's better in German, and more relevant to a Berliner than to a US midwesterner - but I like it regardless, and still use the line occasionally: "alles klar, Herr Komissar?"

  • thanks for upping! english lyrics too! well done! I love Falco!

  • i love this song...it's sweet and awesome

  • one kommissar in town ^^

  • the german version is better and funny
