Can someone explain to me why everyone hates Ash. I thought there was a much more meaningful connection between her and Shepard than Liara. And she's got a better back story too. If you talk to Ash she tells you why she doesn't like aliens and you learn about her. With Liara it's basically,

" I bury myself in research and I'm not very social." And yes, before people start complaining I have done both romance plots.

I'm only halfway through Mass Effect (having played 2 first). With all due respect to Chief Williams, but I just can't stand her. Every conversation I have with her she blurts out some bigotted statement. It's like chatting up a Klan member. I GRUDGINGLY chose her over Liara for a relationship because I want to see how it will effect ME2 (I heard about the picture in Shepard's quarters). I'll just make sure I have lots of mouthwash to get the gunk out.

She was upset because after seeing him die in a horrifically traumatic way and trying to recover and move on for the next emotionally painful two years, he just waltz right back into her life, right after a disasterous Collector attack no less, and casually announce that he is working for an evil corporation.

Of course she was hurt and confused, it makes sense. Plus later on she apologises over email making it clear she still loves him

She just distrusts them because of her family history and lack of experiance. That said she happily aides the Salarians on Virmire and dismissed Terra Firma as racist.

Again it comes from her families history and if you pursue the right dialouge with her, her views on aliens change for the better. Character development.
