  • lol thats awesome

  • cool vid, thanks for sharing

  • HAHAHA must be fun!

  • You should put a bead on it as the sight, simple fix for a simple rifle. By the way, thanks for taking the time to explain NFA to all the "hey, that's illegal you idiot!!!!!!1!!eleven!!!" people. It's good that people learn their rights.

  • i think this may have been the very first bolt action rifle i've ever seen without a stock lol.

  • @1cme1 I think only here in America can we HAVE something called a "rifle without a stock". Most countries either make it entirely illegal to own such, or call it what it makes sense to call a hand-held gun - a handgun. C'est la vie.

  • pretty much a useless waste of a Mosin IMO. I would have saved the 100 bucks or more you spent on the rifle and the time to hack it into pieces, and the 200 dolar tax stamp and the extensive background the BATFE now has on you and just bought a surplus CZ52 or 2. Now those little bastards are fuckin loud, have front AND rear sights, and are semi automatic. and with the velocity your are losing putting a full power rifle cartridge thru a 7 inch barrel, the CZ52 in 7.62X25 is almost as powerful..

  • @JLA1911A1 You are dead wrong. The rifle was found, rusted, bore ruined, stock destroyed, in a tree stand years ago. Not only that, but also, when I just chronographed it with 154gr surplus ammunition, I was getting 1350FPS (average over 10 shots). That's SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than the 7.62x25 out of a CZ52, and cheaper to shoot, as well.

  • @elitearbor fair enough, Ill admit it is sort of comparing apples to oranges.. But 1350 from a load that is supposed to produce 2500 is a pretty big shortfall. And again, a waste if you cant aim to hit the target outside of 15 or 20 feet.. I have gone the SBR route and its a waste of time unless you have a purpose built supressed, scoped setup..

  • @JLA1911A1 Waste of time? Like a 7 shot .45acp?

  • @JLA1911A1

    AHAHAHAAHA...oh wait you're serious.

  • I'll bet that thing is as loud as a S&W 500.

  • Thats pretty cool. I saw a pic of one of these and thought is was a fake but you just proved me wrong. Would love to have one.

  • Yeah, could we get some more footage of this pretty thing?

  • Could you please make a video response showing this SBR close up? Thank you.

  • it's a sbr because it was a rifle and is converted to a pistol. It's listed as a pistol when it's build from the ground up to be a pistol

  • dude, you have some of the coolest guns of the youtube gun people. i especially love the silenced nagant revolver and this mosin sbr is also rediculous are u a class 2 or something

  • Sawn-off shotguns are cool. Sawn-off high-powered rifles are just plain awesome.

  • now try aiming it and firing

better have a helmet with full face shield on when you do

  • Pain-free wrists are really overrated anyway...

  • its an sbr

  • Ohhh nice.... To bad here in IL we can't have SBR's - otherwise I think I'd be making myself a project gun! Very sweet!

  • Reminds me of a bulldog, that gun.

  • lol I bet the stamp cost more then that nagant

  • That is so bizarre :D

  • OBREZ FUCK YEAR

  • do you like the guns to have small or no stocks

  • Obrez!

  • Does it actually have iron sights? I can't see any.

  • Oh my god.

  • that's actually awesome. I've seen an obrez'd lee-enfield in a museum in belgium and I've been keeping an eye out for a real obrez mosin - this is brilliant!

  • @DRAC250 One day when I have the cash burning a hole in my pocket to buy the Mosin Nagant AND the special stamp to keep it legal, I WILL make myself an obrez! Do I need one? No... I don't even know if the outdoor rifle ranges around here would allow me to shoot it... I still want one...

  • Wow. That keeps it interesting!

  • lol u kno wats awesome about this gun is its complete over kill 4 a handgun lol can u imagine if u had a burglar and aimed something at em like this id be out da window!

  • This is why they should make pistols that use a rifle cartridge.

  • What ammo are you shooting in this video? Regular full-load surplus stuff or light-load handloads? I would expect more fire outta surplus stuff!

  • It is still considered a SBR with no stock? But...ATF....laws.....ugg, I hate these stupid laws. I study them for years and still have no idea what is going on.

  • wow, obrez rifles are pretty badass. doesnt look like the recoil would permit you to aim it like a pistol, (big drawback). but it does look effective and at least concealable. immagine being hit with that instead of a wimpy 9mm lol.

  • Have you ever tried shooting it with one hand?

  • I would have just kept the stock on it and leave it with a short barrel.

  • @flamedrag18 yeah, and then put it at your shoulder and fire right next to ur cheek rigth.. awesome idea

  • That is just plain awesome. I really like my MN(s) and if I didn't live in this BS state I would make one and pay ATF 2 bills! The gangmembers in my neighborhood when I was a younster all carried sawed down hunting rifles. I remember one of these Alpha Hotels naming one as his little friend. I am sure they are mostly in landfills, the bay or property storage rooms but it is neat to see the one you built. I really would like to see a good quality photo of a Obreyz. So thank you so much!!

  • jesus that must be lowd.

  • @thecombatmaster: When you want to punch a fist-sized hole on someone's chest and set their clothes on fire at the same time, accept no substitute.

  • I've loved every single one of your other videos.... great to hear the difference between silenced and unsilenced.... but i cant believe that any1 would cut down such a beautiful rifle as the mosin nagant..... what a waste :(

  • That's when you just buy another one for $80! : )

  • Thats what I love about these. Almost unlimited quanity, great rifle, dirt cheap price. HEAVEN!

  • OBREZ!!!!!

  • STALIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The ultimate in home defense.

"Oh, what's that, home invader? You've got a steel plate on your chest? Well, you might as well call that butter, and I've got a hot knife!"

    ...I'm such a nerd. >.>

  • i love u

  • I luv you 2

  • That's awesome!

  • Dude i want a 762x54 pistol o.0 keep that in your car...

  • not sbr but fukin cool

  • So, you're saying that the BATFE is incorrect and this isn't an SBR? Law that has been in place since 1934 disagrees with you. ;)

  • i dont see a stock so its a bolt action pistol IMO

  • In your opinion, and probably the rest of our opinions, yes, it is a bolt action pistol, but according to the BATFE, if it was made from a rifle, it will always be a rifle. Even if it has no stock. It's a shame that the laws are so fucking screwy regarding stuff like this.

  • That's not true. If you were to buy an SG 552 and take the butt stock off, you would have a Sig 552 pistol, not an SBR.

I could be mistaken but I am 95% positive that if there is no buttstock, it's not a rifle.

  • @ElessarUSMC

Nope. If it was originally built as a rifle and converted, it's considered a SBR and requires the stamp.

There are actually a couple of companies that make legal lever action pistols similar to the Mare's Leg used by Steve McQueen as Josh Randall in the 1958-61 TV show Wanted: Dead or Alive.

  • @elitearbor thank you for correcting that idiot. i have no idea how that dude is saying that is not an SBR.. mosin nagant is a rifle and clearly yours has been modified into a short barrel.

  • Russians had tons of the Nagant 7.62 revolvers, which were underpowered, and some people wanted something with more power, and they had plenty of mosin/nagant rifles, so they cut them down.

People sometimes do things out of necessity, and they use what materials are available to them. To us it's easy to say, "why not buy a pistol?" but to a Russian peasant, that wasn't an option, so you chopped down the rifle.

It was during the Russian revolution, mostly

  • just why the hell would anyone make or use this?

  • The stupidest mod I have ever seen to a rifle. its a fucking long rifle!!!! not a submachine gun.

  • It was made by the some sect of Russians as a concealable weapon during one of their many conflicts...why they didn't just use a pistol..who knows

  • Because a 7.62 does much more damage than the shitty pea shooters they had then and have now.

  • this could only be better if you attached the original bayonet to that beast :0 hahaha. Man, I wish we could have SBRs in California.... :|

  • silly californian guns are for real americans

  • sbr= short barrel rifle

  • What does SBR mean?

  • A little more effective against kevlar than a .45....

  • a little!?!

  • Now here is one to wrap your head around, if you start with a pre-1899 receiver could you make a pistol out of it without the SBR paperwork. :) And yes folks, if the receiver (post-1899) was ever a rifle, it is always a rifle. For $270, I might build this "abomination" too, because it is TOO COOL!

  • That is amazing

  • can someone tell me why u cant just classify that thing as a pistol?

  • Because the receiver is registered as a long gun.You have to pay $200 federal tax stamp to cut the barrel down.

  • By law Rifles and Pistols are classified by what their reciever is originally made for. If you make a rifle and cut it down like this, then it's an SBR. If the gun is made to be a pistol from the start, it's a pistol. This is cut down from an m91/30 mosin nagant rifle into an "obrez" pistol. It's a "pistol" in use, but by legal definition it's still a rifle.

  • Technically, it's a "Weapon made from a rifle." $200 stamp.

  • Well somone has a big pair.

Where the hell do you ge one?

  • How is this an SBR? It doesn't have a stock, so it would be a pistol.

  • Because it used to have a stock.

    Therefore, legally, it's an SBR.

  • I'd love to take a Mosin Nagant carbine and do the same but with some addition; A pistol grip and folding stock. Much like the one found on the Mosin Nagant in the game "Metal Gear Solid 3".

  • Hey i'm an comicbook artist and know absolutely nothing about guns beyond common sense, could one of these be fired one handed? I'm not saying neccessarily with any degree of marksmanship, but just to be aimed and fired and not fuck up your arm/look like a weiner.

  • it might hurt a bit but you could do it

  • Fella,

If that firearm is less than 16 inches long, it's not legal. 1934 NFA (passed by the compromisers at the NRA) defines it as an unregistered short barrelled rifle.

We're not talking slap on the hands illegal. Ask guys (or their corpses) at Ruby Ridge and Waco.

  • See how in the description it's listed as NFA? I paid the $200 tax and hold a stamp for this item. :)

  • Notice to "RMGOfreedom"

Warning: This device is known to create discomfort, injury, and/or cancer in the State of California.

  • @RMGOfreedom The barrel is what cant be under 16 inches dummy. Don't give out wrong information. It fuels a legion of morons. The OAL (overall length) can't be under 26 inches either.

  • lamest shooting stance ever, I've seen harder looking super soakers.

  • is there a way to make a legal pistol out of one?? that gun is in a legal pistol configuration but its a sbr because you cant make a rifle into a pistol????

  • or a sbr with a pistol grip?

  • Not that bad an idea.

I've got a Carbine that's ripe for the picking too!!

  • whoever decided they want to make and then shoot this thing is crazy. must have a hulluva kick on it. Now that you've sawed it down, you need to get someone to make you a cool pistol stock for it. that would be pretty awesome.

  • Actually, the Soviets were doing that years ago, they called it the Obrez.

  • It.....it's so stupid......but I want to shoot it.

  • why? explain dont just give me thumns down i wanna know wtf is this gun for ?

  • lynette, if you have to ask... you wouldn't understand anyway.

the m38 and m44 kick like hell and sound like a cannon anyway... i wish i could experience this thing in person- i have a feeling the video doesn't do it justice.

  • The Obrez. When you need to put a fist-sized hole in someone at less than 10 feet, and set their clothes on fire at the same time, accept no substitute.

  • OBREZ

  • now thats a REAL hand cannon

  • i paid $59 for my 91/30's on sale at ORF two years ago, throw away gun...

  • This is probably a dumb question, but, why the hell is it so short?

  • made a really pissed off pistol basically lol, just saws the barrwl down and the stock making a 1 hand grip type thing

  • why is this a sbr? it doesnt have a stock. doesnt that qualify it as a pistol?

  • It only qualifies as a pistol if it came from the factory that way. Once a rifle, always a rifle.

  • Q_Q

  • I applaude your genius!

  • those rifles cost about under a hundred dollars, how is it a waste?

  • Elitearbor, I watch your videos ad nauseum. You just have so much awesome stuff!

  • I bow down to your awesomeness good sir.

  • Awesome little pistol. Is there any chance of a night shoot? I can't imagine the fireball!

  • sooooo badass!!! and for the bitches that say this is a waste.... your retarded there are like 37,000,000 of these rifles theyre only worth $100 and hey does sbr stand for short barreled rifle or what? :o

  • yeah it does, and they're saying it's a waste because making a gun into an SBR costs $200, he spent more money to cut this gun down like this than he did on the gun itself.

  • sir, your guns are incredibly awesome.

i dub thee King of the SBRs.

  • My jaw dropped when I seen the range there, I knew I seen it, I shot up there a bunch in the past.

Hope to see you up there one day so I can check out your creation there, Looks neat. Thanks for posting this

  • That particular configuration is "Historical"??? How so?

Do you have a documented source for that design?

  • Russian Partisians during the war of 1917 (Russian Revolution), Russian gangs/resistance since then, Jewish resistance fighters (vs. Nazis), and more.

"Obreyz" version of Mosin Nagant rifles. They're actually pretty common in history, look them up. :)

  • Cool. You learn somethin' new every day!

I never would have thought it, but it makes sense, if you must, chop what you can get your hands on. Hell, that's a pretty good one-shot-stop, 7.62x54 center mass at close range. I'd rather have a little shotty, but whatever.

  • like a super shorty!

  • Your mother should have kept the afterbirth, not you. :D

  • Did you make this or did you buy this?

  • Made it.

  • Okay. Now, that's just silly.

    Looks fun, though.

  • Historical, not silly.

  • Wow! Normally I don't condone sporterizing Mosins, but this I highly approve of! 5 stars!

  • thats not sporterizing it! thats super-shorting it!

  • Thats new to me. THanks. Got a Mosin about 6 months ago but haven't fired her yet.

  • why would you chop up something like that?

  • Because it's mine, it's historical, and it annoys people like you.

  • I think its awesome. As for historical amazing gun, thats like someone modding an AR 15 like 20 years from now and people being like OMG nooo, its so historical and rare, pleeeasee nooo...haha. Keep firing man.

  • oohh Tooo nice man !!! Asewome!!!

  • ouch i know my hand would be hurting after shooting that. I shot my friends mosin nagant carbine and it kicks pretty good, makes a nice boom to but after lossing half the wieght making it SBR... wow the recoil must be pretty bad

  • 10/10 thats amazing

btw- are those hand loads or just some storebought stuff?

  • why would you do such a thing to such an amazing rifle?

  • MN91/30.... amazing rifle? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING?

  • Mosin Nagant's are great Rifles.

  • they are less than a hundred dollars, if it was a sniper variant then yeah it would be a waste

  • Come on man, I subscribed to you because I thought you had a great appreciation for firearms. I love my M91/30, and doing something like that to a historical relic, seems like blasphemy.

  • Historical rifle? Sure as hell not this example. MILLIONS of 91/30s were made. MILLIONS. If you think my turning one into an obreyz (which was done by Russians, as well, mind you..) is an abomination, don't look. I have a pile of them unmodified, as well. Cheap beater rifles.

  • Okay, you have a valid argument. I bought a M91 as a beater rifle too, but that doesnt mean I'm willing to destroy its historical purpose, If there was ever en obreyz for sale I'd buy it and keep it as is, so the argument goes both ways.

  • The Mosin Nagant is an outstanding rifle, and just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's low quality.

  • totally agree. I tried to give you thumbs up but my trigger finger touched off as I scrolled over thumbs down. Sorry I take back the thumbs down!

  • Hey, this is great. Thanks for building the beast and then posting this... I just read about these pistols on 7.63x54r and thought I'd be lucky to find a pic, much less a video.

  • That is pretty cool but I honestly do not see the point of making an SBR out of an old Mosin. Still cool though.

  • You gotta find the right length to cut that mosin nagant to get a perfect recoil+ fireball mixture. But what you got there is dandy.

  • ....and the WHY of finding a particular recoil/fireball mixture would be..?

  • Nah, he's just adding another chapter

  • Just 'cuz you can. Nice. :P

  • hah! Man o man you just made me look at my m44 in a different light all together. I don't think I could chop mine as it is more useful with a stock but thanks for the video. Good stuff!

  • Kinda murdered a piece of history don't you think.

  • One of millions of rifles made, without history attached? Hardly.

  • thats pretty awesome, i have to admit. I would put a pistol grip on it, that would sure make it easier to shoot? I doubt you can buy anything directly compatible for the MN but you could make something..

  • A pistol grip would make it a lot more painful and harder to shoot - instead of the recoil simply rocking both arms back pivoting at the elbow, the recoil would be absorbed into the web of the firing hand, which would hurt QUITE a bit.

  • lol i need to stop posting comments at 2 in the morning.. i was thinking it would make it easier to aim and control (which doesnt matter, if you were going for accuracy i suppose you wouldnt have chopped it) not really make the recoil easier. i guess i can see a lot of potential wrist problems with the pistol grip.. and thanks for the fast reply

  • There are no sights on this gun. :)

I never intended it to be aimed or anything.

  • Understandable, considering the kick, but I'd still be interested to see how such a shortened rifle would group. Care to hazard a guess?

  • No idea - there are no sights and I don't have a Ransom Rest to check group size.

  • Most of the round probably would keyhole anyways. The barrel is way to short to stabilize the bullet.

  • Wrong. There is FAR more than enough rifling (lengthwise) to stabilize the projectile.

  • I stand corrected.

Anyways, very interesting obrez you have there.

  • Do want. Unfortunately, shortening a firearm without a "good reason" and government approval is completely illegal in my country, though (no, "it'll be fucking awesome" is not a "good reason").

  • That's unfortunate. This almost always comes to the range with me.

  • LOL that is so cool

  • As a Mosin Nagant enthusiast I have to say that is one of the coolest damn things I have seen so far.

  • Why thank you!

  • NICE!!!!

These actually did exist in Russia, around 1900-1940. I've seen a photo of an officer holding one. He was firing up in the air likely to signal troops. The recoil must be massive on this one.

  • The recoil is manageable, not painful at all.

  • Does it hurt to shoot it?

  • Doesn't hurt me, haven't had any complaints from others, either.

  • Such ignorance with NFA stuff these days. Glad the video poster knows the facts.

  • You fucking idiot, change your name to bubba and shoot your self.

  • Did you really obtain an SBR stamp for the GUN?????

If it is left in that configuration it is considered a pistol.....just like when you do an AK pistol build with no stock....no SBR stamp needed, no compliance parts needed.

  • The receiver is a rifle receiver so you need to get it SBRd.
