I recently bought the $79 kindle 4 version, and i've been reading manga using mangle but i don't know how to zoom images, i mean i can perfectly read single pages but where there are 2 in a single image i can't read the text, i know that usually you can zoom in and out with the keyboard but my kindle has no keyboard and i don't know how to zoom in and out with the 5-way controller =(

I'm considering getting one, but am a bit hesitant.

I never owned a manga book before so I don't know how big one is, but someone told me that this device is about the size of a page.

That means, there's no worrying of changing resolution and such, right?

@theanimefag It cost $139 new from amazon. You can put it fullscreen which helps since it removes the top bar. It's not too bad reading manga as long as there's not too much happening and the lettering is fat.

Bakuman! yay! only bad part is that you cant have the pages horizontal. The iPad released a Viz Media app that you can purchase Manga by Volume for $5 a Vol.

@Caram3lLov33 you can download manga from stoptazmo (large library which is awesome) but you have to convert it yourself by using Mangle, which is also easy to use and comes out overall nice on the kindle ( i have a kindle 3 and the refresh rate is better then this

You can get kindle manga from mangaonthekindle . com I have just signed up and there is about 20 different mangas in the database :o and there is some free ones aswell.

@Sheeklou Too bad it's only for the smaller kindles. Kindle DX users end up having a very small page in center of the screen. Plus I'm not so much in favor of making people pay for scanlations that were distributed for free in the first place...

@firefishable It's a pity, but 4GB of internal Memory is plenty (provided we're dealing with books and manga)

Too bad the Micro USB port is not that of a standard (I think only the newest Nokia and Blackberry use it) but additional cables are cheap and easy to find online.

1- It's 20cm x 14cm. It's just like a A5 sheet

2- With text, up to 3 weeks I guess. But as I read mostly manga, images are a tad more consuming. You can read off 20 hours off one charge I'd say. But it's so fast to charge, you're good to go after 10 minutes of charge or so...

3- Still pretty expensive, I paid 480$ for it, but I think it's cheaper now, check on amazon.com !

4- It is !

As for memory, can you get an external memory? SD Card or something? I know that it has 4gb of Internal memory, though I am curious. Cause I read a lot of manga.

@ShinTheNin As stated on the video, no external memory at all. Yes that sucks. But still 4GB is plenty whn it comes to books and manga. If you use Mangle DX to format your manga, you'll save a lot of space and optimize quality. (Hourou Musuko from chapter 1 to 90 is around 320 MB. And that's a lot of pages !)

@Walking0rgasm Well, it does, BUT, color tends to be interpreted in very different ways. Sometimes it has a perfect "Black & White Newspaper look" and sometimes it seems very washed out like watercolor making it difficult to see all the details.

I read some comics on it, but It's really not ideal, I would not recommend it if that would be your primary use...

is it possible to read manga on the smaller kindle. I'm concerned that the text may be too small to read when you use fit to screen. And if you don't use fit to screen, scrolling around the bubbles would be a pain

@4rcane Originally, I wanted a Kindle because I saw a guy in the subway reading manga on the smaller one. It looked great and everything, and it was really hard to make up my mind. With big panel mangas like shojo manga or action themed ones it's completely useable. With more text intensive manga, like Bakuman, Death note or Shirow stuff, small text can become difficult to read on the small one. Thus I picked the DX one, and never had a single problem reading any manga whatsoever !
