If you know, what are the specs of the computer you used to make this? I'm thinking of building a computer this summer to do these sorts of things, but I'm not sure what sort of graphics/processor I should include in the build.
@xcpunisher I did the animation a while ago, the predators are slightly more elaborate but still low poly mesh. It took a few minutes to calculate the animation, and then a while to render (10-20min.). Had a slow Amd dualcore with 2gb ram and a basic video card. Obviously the faster the better.. Depends on the money
you're willing to pay.. I now have a faster dualcore with 8gb of ram and a gforce 260 videp csrd...
nope i tried that too and it still didn't work i even put them in a box then kept them there for the first couple hundred frames but they wouldn't eat the prey
I just happened across this video because I just implemented a simple 2d sprite boids with no animations (my first attempt at anything in directX). This is pretty spectacular! :-)
thanks! It looks like there was an offset but it's an illusion. there are birds flying on their back which gives flapping the opposite direction. I shaped birds in a way it was impossible to tell if they were flying on their backs or just normal.
Dude! You nailed that!! It's very similar to an actual video I saw of seals hunting fishies. Or maybe it was dolphins... Either way, great job! You totally blow all the other Blender vids away!
thanks! It's quite tricky to find the right settings... try Gimbels tutorial and then fiddle with the settings, I found that the prioritiy of the settings have a great influence on bahaviour...

Stop feeding it for a while. He'll get hungry eventually.

Awesome! Are your prey birds flapping their wings at different times? How did you accomplish the offset?

thanks! It looks like there was an offset but it's an illusion. there are birds flying on their back which gives flapping the opposite direction. I shaped birds in a way it was impossible to tell if they were flying on their backs or just normal.
