i am guilty of hearing this song sang by DRUNK TED on HIMYM and i had a vague memory of it from the 80's. then i saw cheap trick in summer of 2008 and they played it. AWESOME PERFORMANCE. GREAT SONG.

Apparently loads of people have only discovered this song AFTER watching How I Met Your Mother. Fact is, this song was popular long before the TV show existed. No doubt that it was clever use of the song there, but I remember this being played liberally on radio years ago. A great song from a great band.
