The problem with my world is that i have almost no caves but i have an awesome ocean of ice I can't find lava there fore i cant find diamond which means i can't get obsidian and i can't go to the nether

Other than the watches the only thing gold can do is decorate by using 9 bars in your work bench to create a gradiented yellow/gold block

Ores spawn randomly. There is no pattern at all. Somebody made mode to stop that and make them into ore vines which are hard to find but plentiful in ores.

Grass and tree leaves don't have a specific colour anymore, i think they are based on a gradient for different biomes. You should google 'minecraft halloween update'

I horde gold too. You can make a watch with gold now. Same as compass but replace the iron with gold bars.

The bright grass/trees are still around, theres different regions now.

You know about portals right?? And fishing poles work now, Go Fish!

@FoundationsofPause Good info Pause, and you delivered it first :P And no I don't no about Portals! I checked youtube vids when I read your post and only found vids of knock off scenarios/worlds from the game "Portal". Gold watches, I like that - I can die pimped out now :)
