Sabbath's lyrics are far more complicated than anything Jonh Lennon ever wrote. But because he was a Beatle and a pioneer I'm sure most people will disagree. Sabbath was also a pioneer and at a time when the airwaves were flooded with Beatles type music. Greezer was the principle lyricist and there are few if any better.
Ozzy DOES write the vocal lines, which are certainly on the level of those Lennon used to write, they're simply incredibly catchy,I believe he's the brain of Sabbath, because Iommy alone, being a great guitarist and all, does nothing more than your average heavy, unlike, for example Sabotage which borders progressive rock and relies on the musicianship of Osbourne,Geezer and Ward as well.
@Melevolentzeroenvoy Actually Ozzy wrote in his autobiography, that all he does is singing - he always beleieved Iommi to be a leader. And most of lyrics are written by Geezer.
Ozzy is great and all, but he hardly writes the music now does he, does he even play an insrument? I'm not knocking him, but too often the real music writers get overlooked by a front man who writes little if none of the music.
The lyrics to this song sound like ozzy crying out from the illuminati or sometihing, but I cant't see someone like him joining those stupid cunts, and they probabley woudnt let him put outside something like this.
Black Sabbath = Darkest music ever made. To all you little Pink Piglet youngbloods out there. Listen to the first song fom the first album.. Ironically named ( Black Sabbath ). Now you know what true dark metal is. Lesson over !!!
Iommi is the most underrated blues guitar player in the business, Butler is a true Rock god, and Osbourne and Ward are both Fucking INSANE! Together they invented Heavy Metal.
I think all of the bands members are amazing. I think ozzy did the best with sabbath, and i'm one of the only ones that think that, most think he is better solo. He is great solo but this is some of the best music in existence.
the reason the reflection in the mirror is REVERSED is because they now at the time of this album they are watching their own backs. Their manager was found to be rodding them blind and this album was the last one they had to make under contract for their scumbag manager....they wrote THE WRIT because of this cumbag manager (who is sharons father) the writ is about the entire scenario....this album would be the last ozzy would do with sabbath he later married sharon her scumbag father died
Not only did Bill Ward open doors for young drummers who wished to take a more experimental route musically, he also allowed them more freedom in the knickers department. You say your 15-yr-old son is practising the drums upstairs while wearing his granny's pink panties and tights? Nothing to worry about. He's merely becoming a talented young musician on his way to full-fledged manhood with a little help from the great, nervy William Ward!
True ,there may have drugs influencing the lyrics, but this entire album is a look into the future of world events. We have a true Megalomaniac in the Whitehouse right now,and there are ,and have been many more here, and around the world.Take a good look around, listen to the entire album. The pieces of the puzzle are almost all in place.
it all comes down to the meaning of the words that makes ozzy the greatest. not just bullshit made up on a wim. ozzy probably creates more every time he takes a shit than most do in thier life
@INTOtheVOID11 Ozzy helped out, but you're right, Butler is the unsung craftsman at Sabbath lyrics. Ozzy would actually stop while singing during recording to ask, what am I singing about . True!! LOL

Gillan and Plant were getting up there but they were playing mainly "blues" based songs. Sabbath turned the whole thing on it's head. Although unpopular in the mainstream, many followed in their path.
The way for it to go is: Headbang to 'Hole in the Sky', Pack your bowl to 'Don't Start (Too Late)', Headbang some more to 'Symptom of the Universe' until it gets to the mellow outro and smoke it up, getting nicely toasted throughout 'Megalomania'.
On the right sound system, you'll hear some extra layering on this track that is really unique. I wonder if they even knew how they did it.

This is by far the best 10 minutes ever recorded. The first half is so eerie it still gives me the chills. The riff opening up the second half crushes you against the wall and forces you to listen. Even though it comes off as an absolute mess, I love this album. You can tell the drugs / record business were taking their toll on the band, but that was also the beauty of it. It was innocent, raw, and angry....

Now, young'ins is always askin' of me: "Sgt, why is it that you joined The Grean Burays, and not the Navy SEELs?", and the only thing to say is: "On account o', in the Navy, they don't wear shoes!" This is by far the best 10 minutes ever recorded.

Now, young'ins is always askin' of me: "Sgt, why is it that you joined The Grean Burays, and not the Navy SEELs?", and the only thing to say is: "On account o', in the Navy, they don't wear shoes!" I mean, how kin a body storm a beach if'n he ain't a-wearin' no *shoes* ner *boots*?!? Sure!--it's OK when theys bordin' other ships, er out swimmin' around on patrole ("Frogmen" don't wear no shoes--they goes bearfoot, 'n that's why theys called Navy "SEELS"--it stands fer: "ShoE-lESs" [shoeless])...

@OzzyFan87 in the lyric sheets, yes, but it distinctly sounds like "fuck me." There are a couple other little things I would edit in the lyrics too.
