  • An all time favorite.

  • Hey squinkque get over yourself. The club is open.

  • This is definetly one of those albums that changed my life-i love the low fi approach and cool you can write so many great songs that barely touch a minute long...

  • There's no style, just tow-truck style.

What I mean is this: The 90's presented me w/ everything and I spat on it w/ the hesitance born of complete moron ism. I scrape down on both knees, please forgive me, Church of Bob.

  • I love this song and video, 'specially the Johnny Winter/ Tom Petty stoner dude and his girl.

  • I love that this video is fully of nothing symbolism. makes me think of the rattled by the rush videos pavement did. Full of nothing and somehow... poignant.

  • DYT!!! yeahahh.. maybe. Dayton's not so great but this band is!

  • Best band of all time right here!

  • Best band of all time right here!

  • i live right next to dayton. robert pollard is like the only reason to be a prideful ohioan

  • THAT'S Bob Dylan? ...i imagined he would be ...well boring

  • The best use of the B and E chord ever, Un fucking real

  • @SkippySywalker Those are two of the best ones on the guitar. Plus the A. That's a good one too!

  • Good song to drive your car into a river! And then the time will come when you motor away.

  • That truck reminds me of another underrated 90s rock band...

  • @farrout56 Slint?

  • Four people are retarded.

  • @saintjimmy273 How can one dislike GBV???

  • @jpacemen01 I know, right!? The four people who hit dislike are immune to the charms of good music. Perhaps they were disturbed by the lack of autotune or a minimally talented female R&B singer making "eh, eh, eh" noises in the background.

  • My life just started over at 1:13 into the song...

  • god, this video just screams 90's. i love it. i miss those times...

  • boy this was great! thanks for the post!

  • "That's my neighbor Robert. He's tripping on acid right now and will stab you if you don't bob your head to his song."

  • "Honey, there's some strange, curly-haired man singing behind the car."

  • More than a band to me, it is my religion, my life.. Alien Lanes is pure Genius! Robert Pollard is God!

  • @GBVGBVGBVGBV

    Agreed.

  • such a great band. i regret that i only saw them once.

  • @misterhype138 i was fortunate to see them on their world tour, which for some great and yet strange reason started in my town, Adelaide south Australia,

$15 at the door, 3.5hrs live awsomeness, then the backstage party went till sun up.....best time of my art schooldaze

  • @mistalental Ah, the UniBar: what a freakin' incredible show. I have never seen a band drink so much during a set. They played for damn close to three hours, as I recall - I was certainly a complete wreck by the end...

  • im glad to have met some one else who was there, dude it was awsome, one of my best life moments on record.

and yet why does no body believe me when i relate this story of cost of ticket, length of show, and the fact they started the world tour in Adelaide ????

i still gots a drumstick in my top draw of stuffs as well, signed poorly, but always makes me remember

  • guided by voices = best band ever

  • @trashedcannedgoods Dude these songs hit so close to home for me man GBV is more than band to me.......GBV is more like a moment in time.

  • @DamnArms12345 are those all the words you know in the english language? i feel sorry for you. and your lack of actual taste in music.

  • @cherryprincessm erm that was a response to a comment, perhaps a lame one, to the comment before my mine. I thought it would be percieved as an attempt to mock the languge he used, I was clearly wrong. To anwser your question those are the only words i know in the english language. and i'm quite happy in my varied and eclectic music taste, but I'm sure you being the awesome indie scenester that you would be an appropriate judge of someones taste in music

  • @DamnArms12345 ah i know understand, thanks for taking the time to explain it to me. as i can see you are a good stalker as well. :)

  • Hahahahah... wow. You and I are from two different planets on that one.

  • LOL so go back to listening to The Dave Mathews Band and don't' forget your Kurt Cobain jersey T and get your ass over here for a Ham-n-Cheese sandwich.

  • GBV rules!!!! Makes me wanna chug beers with Bob.

  • @crushinn4you

You must have not of heard ke$has voice

  • This is probably my favourite GbV video. Hey , is that the old planetarium where I saw those Pink Floyd lazer light shows when I was a teenager? Now I feel old.

  • Yeah, one and the same! Now there's a new palnetarium.

    Northridge Forever!

    Cya at Marian's Bob...

  • I love and miss this song a lot. Goddamn, I feel old now.

  • Watching a GBV video is like watching a scene from a movie, and the song is part of the soundtrack ... at the same time, most of their videos seem like a spot-on visual interpretation of the song even if you've heard it 500 times and you would've made a completely different video.

I'm thinking it's rare to do accomplish both of those things simultaneously.

  • El Mato a Un Policia Motorizado!!!

  • motor away should have been the top pop song of it's day

  • it was to people who knew music. and really it still is.

  • @mrp0ttymouth people don't accept pop songs unless they have structures they're used to

  • at 0:32 robert pollard looks exactly like michael cera.

  • Mahaffey's Pies (and Towing).

  • Thanks for posting cheers

  • fat bob ripped off syd barret!

  • ...and he made the world a better place because of it!

Of course, the music, arts, everything, is built on the foundations of others. Once an idea leaves your head, it's no longer yours, unless you by into the copyright/I.P. idea, which is short term, can't see the forest, for the trees thinking.

Art improves when people are free to use the art of others and, make their own art.

If no one could "rip" anyone else off, things would stagnate and, they have, in I.P. land.

  • And Bob Dylan "ripped off" Woodie Guthrie!

    Your point?

  • Get it straight, 77surwrong

    Talent borrows.

    Genius Steals

    Behold genius.

  • @77surreal

I dont see how you can say 'ripped off'. Bob has taken inspiration from EVERY great rock n roll artist EVER and has turned it into something completely his own that sounds, simultaniously, like everything and nothing you've ever heard before

  • Pollard for president.

  • it's hard for me to imagine Motor Away with Auditorium before it. pollard is a genius sequencer. same with Yours to Keep/Echos Myron

  • alien lanes is a beautiful record, and this is one of its gems. nice post, maestro!

  • Ohh, Alien Lanes...such richness of great songs!! A true classic!!!

  • And then the time will come when you motor away

Oh, why don't you just drive away?

    Come on!

    Speed on!

  • you know play this . As my propellant laiden urn drives away.....

  • Titus Ave. represent.

  • "I just wanna ROCK!" -while at it, understand the attempted system to control you, WATCH: "Freedom to fascism", "Money as debt", "Endgame", "Money masters", "Zeitgeist", "Ring of power".... I am on your side. -ONELOVE

  • Mhhh (3-)

  • I still have an unsed ticket for a GBV-Mary Lou Lord=Elliot Smith show at Lounge Axe in Chicago from 1994. Dumbass didn't go. I too will have this played at my funeral.

  • want to "hear" motor away at my funeral..

    Band Nr.1... fav track !

(to bad i never saw them live in germany)

  • Yes, I never thought about it before, but I also want to hear this at my funeral. Good call. This song is the story of my life.

  • Great video and brilliant song; it always gets cranked really loud when I'm a bit down, as an escape. But man, Pollard is so damn old! And this video was such a long time ago. Although I did see GVB about five years ago in concert and they rocked the house for about 2.5 hours, so the man defiantly has life in him yet ;)

  • old???

    hmmmmm

we dinosaurs still like to rawk

  • I have all their discography including 1986's "Devil between my toes" first LP. As you may have noticed, the voice sounds different on some of the songs, who's singing on this record???

  • alien lanes was the first thing i heard by them. still one of the coolest bands ever.

  • masters of the 2 song back to back blasters: anyone for pretty bombs then eureka signs? fucking amazing

  • alien lanes rules. weird videos though i don't get it!!!

  • do you get their lyrics though? it makes sense if you don't expect it to

  • GBV rule and this video is awesome and the music is just unbelievabale, alien lanes is the best fucking album ever

  • nate asked me if i was a cop, and when i said no he asked if i had a joint, and this was in texas so everyone was pushing them with tequila shots so they were tanked before they took the stage, and nate passed out and fell on me.

ah gbv, possibly the best band in history.

  • if you watch closely, they are bringing in Nate Farley instead of Mitch...Nate becomes the new driver....we love you Mitch.

  • this video is so dumb yet so cool at the same time.

  • i like guided by voices... but this music video is dumb!

  • Yeah. If you haven't checked out the Alien Lanes LP/CD where both tracks originate from, do it. 28 tracks (!) of four track home recording brilliance, it just may blow your socks off.

  • guided by voices was in the strokes video (someday)playing against the strokes on family feud

  • boo me.

  • Gotta hold onto both and your ass in this world, Femsquelch. I'm just glad to see how middle-aged they are. There is hope for a few, at least.

  • motor away is one of my favs. listened to it for years. this is the first time i've watched the vid. proves vids are aweful, they dictate our dreams to us. the images i've formed in my own head while listening to these guyss far surpass any video ever made.

  • true, same here. first time i watch them. gbv is the last band i linked with vids in my head.

  • A video is just ones person's dreams put to digital, or tape. It doesn't mean it's aweful, just someones own.

  • THis rocks!
