  • @Radiator95; Glad you like it. I had a blast, and it was a real pleasure to be working with theRenowned on the filming. The man's a genius..

  • I must've seen this video about 10 times now and i really love your kit guys, great work!

  • I'm 16, and just got kind of into Amtgard, then I heard there was an SCA group near me, so I'm REALLY interested in this. But I don't think I can play until I'm 18, but I'm going to try and learn how to craft weapons and armor for them for when I do turn 18. Any advice?

  • In Europe we using sword and axes, not stick like this!

    Anyway 14

  • @kazama333 oh yeah and your are sooooo brave and cunning using reeeeal steel weapons. may i ask: anyone ever got hurt? or - godforbid - killed? then, my dear sir, you are not fighting. you pretend to reenact as we do, either by fake blows, choreography or blunt weapons. if you say you are using real weapons in a real fight to the death you must be very brave indeed, brave, illegal and nuts. btw: WE in europe, ie the SCA (drachenwald), too, or do we find jersey, channel island in NY?

  • @martinmercenary Of course we have blunt weapons, but real weapons, real steel! And fight is in full contact. Like boxing match just witch weapons. And we using only historical protection, and clothes!

  • @kazama333 so what s your point? we dont fight to kill but to simulate, experience and learn medieval sword fighting, so do you. neither of us uses real weapons to injure and kill (and why wld one???). men used wooden batons to train at least since the roman empire. anyways, my point is: just let people be. as long as we do not LIVE and FIGHT in medieval circumstances, including their logistics, medical care, religious beliefs etc etc anything WE do is a SIMULATION. slimag ;-)

are those the arms of the house of greydragon?

  • Yes. If you watch the whole video you will see Master Terefan being interviewed in persona. :)

  • I cant find anything on the band Vega or the song live by the sword! I really want to get this song where can I find it??????

  • Comment removed

  • Many others have asked where to get the song.. where can I get it?

  • Simplest way would be to just download it from youtube, you can use FDM (free download manager)

  • Thankx! For making this great sca video. The best one I ve seen. Good work.

  • Video: great, Lyrics: great, Singer: ......

overall it is a good video I enjoyed it very much.

Greetings from the western Kingdom of Artemesia and the Barony of Arn Hold. :-)

  • One of the best videos so far that I have seen. I liked the song as well and wish someone would post in on youtube but so far I can't find it. Whoever worked on this video did an amazing job. Good work.

  • I like the song. I dig the whole thing :)

  • Probably the best promotional I've seen for the SCA, minus, as has already been mentioned, the song. The lyrics are great, vocals, not so much. Other than that, nicely done!

  • Ya, high pitch male voices and war themes do not mix. This needs to be sung by non-castrati

  • Great Video!!! But I have to tell you, that is the most annoying song in the world. lol

  • Not bad at all. A friend of mine lives near there so this was the perfect bait.

    William-Caid

  • such a kool vid, i would just like to know where to get the song from, could someone please tell me? or find out? pleeeeaaasssee??? ;3

  • Not a bad flick for eastern fighters to watch. Most people here in the west would call alot of shots light. Maybe check out la prova dura videos for more western style fighters.

  • Still one of my top inspirational videos for the SCA.

  • Why in the name of all the gods is there a freakin' van in the tourney field. This was a real nice looking period event and there was a stupid car in the field!!!

  • it might be a Tv crew, you can't keep the press away after all lol

  • This was a public demo at an agricultural fair, not a medieval event.

Believe me, in Drachenwald we know how to make an event look medieval. :)

  • bosenberg western Australia new to sca

use this clip regularly for inspiration

  • Not to be an asshole, but with all that hugging it was kinda.....

well anyway loved those two guys in the bassinets they had nice armor. I appreciate the accents too

  • Thanks! We are all in bascinets - Terfan and Robert are in "pig-faces" (the ones with the long noses), while Gile and I wear dog-faced ´helms (similar to the later globose form).

  • Great job on this video!!!! It looks and sounds great!

  • rofl, 2:11. Dude gets friggin CHOPPED

  • Yes, that was me getting "chopped". :)

I couldn't see Sir Giles at all, and he really rang my bell...

  • where's this weekend's event?

  • jersey channel islands

  • Sweet. I was thinking about getting involved with the SCA but I'm not really sure... How much does the armor and weapons cost?

Also, is the learning curve with combat steep? I don't have any experience...

  • Armor and weapon costs all depend on your armor style and make. Full stainless gothic is far more pricey than an aluminum kidney belt with hockey pads. However there is way more to the SCA then fighter so you shouldn't let armor costs stop you from at least joining. Plus many groups have loaner gear or people willing to loan you armor to see if you really want to fight before you put a lot of money into it.

  • And the the learning curve isn't bad at all if you are willing to practice. Expirence is the main component of good fighters. SCA combat tends to be a very unique fighting expirence. People who have been in martial arts for years can have trouble at first because of the awkwardness of armor.

  • I disagree, Sir. Martial arts are not a problem. I is great help...

I've studied about 10 forms of martial arts, last one being Kung-Fu (still in it). I fight with sword and board (Round Punch-Block shield) and it works out great for me. Most of the swordhits are same as hand hits and shield blocks with my type of shield is exactly as punches with "Lunar Fist" in Kung-Fu.

Knowing the stances is a great advantage...

and stamina and strength training from martial arts helps out a great deal.

  • Oh, I stated that wrong. I didn't mean people who were in martial arts specifically have problems. I meant more that just because you have been in martial arts for years, doesn't neccessarily mean you have a full advantage above people. My stances from Krav Maga helped me, but it wouldn't have been impossible to learn otherwise.

  • Best idea is to go the loaner armor route at first. Some people just don't like to get hit. A lot of people spend a bunch of money on their kit, then life gets in the way and they drop out. Best to see if the SCA is really for you then invest in the gear.

  • Also, don't buy the best armor you can to start off. Chances are you are going to get his a lot as a beginner and your first armor is going to get beaten up fairly well. (It usually takes a year or three to get good.) I've known folks who were new who wore really spiffy armor to a big war. Stuff like that attracts Knights like a candle attracts moths. :-)

  • Good job!

  • That was awesome!! I loved the fighting,,,,reminds me of Thursdays... :)

  • Jersey ?

Goddamn! I gotta start getting my lazy behind around... Hard to get about on foot.

    Where's this filmed?

P.S. on the truck... There was a helicopter floating around at Pennsic last year... Try to get rid of THAT! ;)

  • Can't do it. The local news crews always drift over from time to time. As well as the National Guard and other Military Depts use Pennsic for some training. They'll fly their intel types over the site, have them look over the camps and from that attempt to determine what size force there might be dwon there. :-)

  • excellent it reminds me why I love the SCA

  • Seriously, guys, hide the truck.

  • Lol! Not possible unfortunately, as this display was held at a public event & the truck didn't belong to us.

  • I am far away in Starkhafn, but I am just impressed at the stuff you all do. Well done video.

    Rennfield The Cast Iron Stomach

  • Lovely!

  • Great video. The music really pushes it. Couldn't make out the name of the band that sing it. Can you tell me?

  • Glad to oblige! The band is 'Vega', the song is called 'Live By the Sword' and it can be downloaded from Peoplesound.

  • that's fantastic!

  • That is an awesome video Axel

  • Totally Awesome, Thanks for sharing! You are all heros. I hope someday I'll get a chance to lay some stick on you!
