@MetaliCanuck I believe that's fly-by-wire doing those minute corrections. Yes? I do flight control free play checks on fly by wire aircraft all the time, but never on fighter aircraft. Just sayin. These modern flight control "servo-actuators are built necessarily very light weight for maximum performance. They don't last as long as the older heavy duty actuators. The rod ends wear out and sometimes the bushing sat the attach points....sometimes both. High performance comes at a price.
I think his life vest keeps his shoulder straps from being properly positioned. You'd think in the year 2010 little details like that wouldn't happen any more.
@mangore623 the only moron is you retard, dude said the show was in canada you fucking retard, stop being a douche and learn to read idiot, btw the fact you said joe satriani sucks shows what music taste you have retard now go fuck off and stop trolling
@mangore623 i was out of my parents house at the age of 17 and joined the air force, i have more education in my pinky then you have total, thats why i got to fly for a living nutsack
Love the songs.. From Joe Santriani? Plus comparing from the beginning to the end, seems that he's lost his safety belts. If I remember correctly the main belts are attached to your legs?
Can't but wait, waiting for my basic training to beginning, even though I'm long way from piloting a Hornet myself...
@nadrile no idea if thats joe, also his safety belts are still on, the one just has slipped farther over, i use to fly like that sometimes depending on what we or i was doing.
Sweet roll @ 5:45! Sorry for ignorance, but exactly which point in the vid is 'this maneuver' with balls discussed?? This guy is definitely good though. Fantastic display. Cheers-
@TacairStationHQ the loaded rolls/pirouettes at 2:40 etc, the one you mentioned, there is nothing ballsier then letting your aircraft sink like that, stalls happen and lives are lost on maneuvers like that.
OK, that makes it pretty clear and I would appreciate that ballsiness all the more now :) Thanks for insight... and btw, if you're indeed a Canuk pilot - thanks for protecting Alaskan skies when our Eagles are grounded! Cheers-
@TacairStationHQ I personally never flew through NORAD up in the north, i have a friend who did but we all protected North American Skies regardless of were we were, I am retired now going on 3 years myself and have been in a infantry unit for the past 2 years.
of course it would and it was since it came into the US NAVY thats the real reason the F14 was disbanded, each and every year we still find out neat little things about the old F18ab/c/d models and all it takes it a little balls. The pirouette is a great defensive to offensive acm
people just need to realize the F14 couldn't even attempt that maneuver unless they wanted to see how fast the f14 could fall. This pilot is really good I bet he's one of Finlands best, rarely Ive seen the hornet flown like that, as I said it takes ALOT of balls and strength.
Were did I say the US could not do this? Please tell me, its all about HAVING THE BALLS to do this in a stick and rudder plane like the F18a or C model, the swiss have been know to fly there f18s like this for years, I have only see US F18E/F models attempting PIROUETTES and loaded rolls in there new hornets, show me an old one doing it like this and we'll talk, as i said its about having the guts to do it and do it right.
Eaxactly you could teach a 14 yr old this maneuver, but I havent yet seen 1 US F18 attempt this at a airshow or anything, they've always been Canadian, Finnish, Swiss or Spanish F18s, there is a reason for it. Its not for the faint of heart in a cockpit.
@SuperHornetsVFA41 sorry bud but you can't take the limit off a g load on pirouettes with a F18A or C Model, a super hornett maybe, dont know never flown one, the manuever would fail in a A or C model if you limited G at all on that move, , also its impossible to take NEGATIVE g load off, thats a positive into a negative maneuver
@SuperHornetsVFA41 also super hornets have aoa limiters, something i prefer not to have on a f18 airframe, there is a reason the original f18s were dangerous , because they usually didnt have aoa limiters, the super hornet counteracts that with 1/3 more thrust and airframe.
@MetaliCanuck Sir can I ask you, why did they go to the O2 mask with the hose off to the side? Having the hose centered seems intuitive. What's the benefit to having it off to one side? Also, how would that work during ejection? Wouldn't the asymetric alignment tend to get turned in the slip-stream and hurt the pilot's neck? It just don't look right. One of my maintenance instructors always told us, "If it looks purty, chances are it'll fly right." (He was a Texan) These masks don't look purty.
@JetMechMA the new masks are much better for ejection purposes being off to the side, the one downfall is constant re adjustments in flight, if you look at the cf18 demo i just uploaded youll see what i mean
@MetaliCanuck I was gonna say, just LOOK at the massive and instantaneous onset of Gs. Also I can't get over the roll rate for these things. They aren't small by any means. That's a massive machine to be rolling that fast. MetaliCanuck, being a fighter pilot yourself, could you see any points in this video where the pilot is maybe easing off due to a little gray-out?
Thats sexy
