i think prius is a great car. it's very comfortable to drive with low emissions and decent mileage. the cvt and planetary gear set used to split power makes it easy and fast to accelerate. it's also nice that you can come and go silently. the reverse camera helps quite a bit. it's fast enough for any legal limits (in normal countries), the navi work fine and the bluetooth headset thingie for phone, too. And everyone here says it's a spaceship. I don't say there ain't better ones but it's not bad

There is no better solution for an economy car IF you can afford the Prius. It's expensive because it's full extra equipped with future technology gizmos and gadgets, and because you save a lot of money with the fuel efficiency. Especially in low speed and city traffic, it is unbeatable.

You really have to check Pruis' equipment to see for yourself. Buy a Prius if you want all of these and you don't care about speed. Diesel and green cars are not made for speed and good driving feel.

@greecekostkon They can have good driving feel and be green, I go back to the Golf. You can spec up the diesel and have all the gadgets you need. If you're talking about things like the CVT transmission, the Golf has the DSG which has better torque transfer and therefore is more efficient. You're getting over 40mpg with some speed and feel. The only appeal I can see in the Prius is for people that feel the need to advertise their greenness. The Golf has a more quiet dignity.

It is a step forward and the best example of a good green car with all the goodies inside. It is a must-gadget. And yes, some people do use it to advertise their greenness but it's not made for that reason. This knowledge and technology will be used to improve more and more the future green cars. Investment!

@greecekostkon You can have satellite radio in the Golf and HUDs are nothing special, I worked on a 94 Bonneville that had one. Thing is, it's just not the best eco car, the most economical is now the Chevy Volt (or the Nissan Leaf if you want to count it) and the best quality reasonably priced eco car is the Golf (or the Jetta or Passat if you want size). Forgive me for not letting this go, I just don't see what level a Prius appeals on. If you're just looking for electronics, buy a computer.

@Stuey105 It's ok, we are not arguing. Leaf is a tiny electric car and Volt is TOO expensive and not many years in the market like the Prius, we ''don't know'' it so much. Prius shows how things are done. It is the #1 eco car and sold millions. Jetta is just diesel, nothing special, plus they're still dirtier than gasoline cars, and a whole lot dirtier than a hybrid. And there's still a bit of a smell, they spit out more particulates, tiny particles of soot and more oxides of nitrogen (NOx).

@greecekostkon Ah, see we're going for two different things here, I'm looking for a car that I can enjoy driving and won't cost much to run. You're looking for a car to save the environment. Thing is, I don't see why we can't have the best of both worlds, I can't hurt Toyota to put a little more into making the Pruis good to drive (suspension, steering and brakes, not power) and it can't hurt Volkswagen to make a hybrid diesel. Diesels will soon be at the point where they're as clean as gas.

I just insisted in the fact that Prius is at the peak of the eco driving the ultimate eco car (nothing to do with good driving feel etc, just eco friendly tchnology, but at it's highest point today). We'll diesel will get to that point, and hybrids will be fun to drive too in the nearest future. So we are both happy :D

Someday we won't be able to buy petrol, if there will be any, we need to start thinkin of solutions and testing them. That's what the Prius is, a step forward, a test, a car in production with 8 years on the market in Japan and no problem mentioned at all. Battery built to last 15 years. Technology at it's best.
