I'm currently trying to get this Mod working on an iPhone 4S, but since the hardware is located a bit differently (and their's no video), it's beginning to frustrate me. I've gone through the steps from their website and changed it up the best I could to use it on the 4S, but it seems to stay on all the time, not just when the screen is on. Any suggestions? I'm probably attaching it to the wrong "contact".
Has anyone successfully modded their 4S with this? Any advice is appreciated.
i just got my iphone light mod today, 01-13-12. it feels like plastic instead of glass. it sounds like plastic when i tap it. i've ordered back panels (just to have as extras) for my iphone 4 before and i can tell it's glass, feels and sounds like glass. i'm not going to bother trying to install this thing. i can only imagine how scratched up it will get. damn, i order two the Original Apple Logo and the Steve Jobs Tribute Apple Logo. oh well, live and learn.
Thanks Dan! I know its a small gap..but my phone is almost always in my pocket and i dont want debris inside the phone.. Oh well..thanks for the reply..ill let you know if i decide to mess with it and find a fix..
hey DanAndTech.. i got my mod kit and got it working.. works great and looks awesome...except for the rear panel not sitting flat against the metal frame....i read somewhere in the comments that you guys noticed this in your device as well..just wondering if you guys got it fixed or found a solution for it..thanks!
Can't get this mod to work, connected the red wire so many times to the connection point but the light still wont come on... followed the instructions on their website 20 steps... no go.
can you show where to put the 2 wires? in the tutorial from KO it says connect it to the cable that gives the screen power.... which one is that? and how do you connect it?
Charging at night shouldn't be an issue, just face back of the phone down or simply cover it up. Also this should not cause overheating at all. It is a simple led. Draws little current and they don't get hot at all.
thank you very much, nice review! Hopefully there will be the possibility to get it off while charging... could you take another connection point to switch it on together with the display?
I don't charge my phone at night anymore. I am paranoid about overheating problems and stuff seeing as I sleep for around 8-10 hours. So I charge it during the day so I can keep an eye on it.
Thanks for the review! I am a little aprehensive about going through with the install after reading some of the posts on KO Gadget's fb page. My biggest concern is shorting out the phone. I didn't see that posted on fb unless I missed it somewhere but since you mentioned it, where did you see it? Your phone looks awesome. I hope I can get mine installed without incident.
Was your installation very precise? I have opened up my iPhone before, but I am by no means a professional. What would you say the difficulty of installation (correctly and precisely) was on a scale on one to 10?
Also, if the iPhone is charging, will Airplane mode cause the light to cease to show? Or does the light just stay on while charging, regardless of notifications or data being sent. Thank you for the review, as I have also purchased this and will soon attempt the install.
@DanAndTech Yeah I took it apart before because I dropped it in water :(. I saved it with cotton swabs and alcohol from corrosion. However, I have little knowledge of electrical wiring. I hope the directions are sufficient.

is the back glass as smooth as OEM? I know apple uses some type of coating to make it smooth.

@driftts14
The glass is as smooth as the OEM back. Yes.
But it seems to attract a lot more fingerprints also!

Thank you so much for your review! Just one question: have you solder the red cable to the board or just with the 3M?

@cristyfast
I use the tape, so that the whole process could be more easily reversible.

if it glows while the phone is charging, doesnt get annoying at night when you are sleeping and charging it

@00tlo00
I think that it won't short out the iphone if installed correctly.
I saw it on KOgadgets fb page's wall. You will have to go through many comments to find it though!

This was the first time I had taken apart my iPhone. I would say difficulty wise...it's a 6 or 7 but that's becaues it was my first time.
When the phone is charging the light will be constantly on, regardless of anything else.
