You must present the reason why the reading fluctuates with the wind speed. The wind does not necessarily increase the number of particles per unit of volume. You must explain why the density of isotopes changes with apparent wind speed. An accumulation of isotopes is a more likely a reason for the increase.

Solar flares do bring rad to the surface. Please check this NOAA weekly solar event chart because we had some but I don't know if they were N Hemisphere or not. You have the research abilities to find out. Other people w/ geiger counters reported rad. anomalies during the same time period so please check this out.

Does this geiger counter pick up solar radiation also. That could be effecting the reading also because there has been some very high radiation coming in from the sun, particularly during the time that energy from sun flares hits the earth.
A comparative of some collected rainwater there might be of interest. But I think you are catching the reading from the atmosphere. I don't know how much the rock could be interfering with the reading, 'cause I don't know if that even is granite.

It dose only have a half life of only 3 min, but will mess with readings.Plus when it decays it puts of two other Alpha halos, Polonium-214 and 210. Next to that, If you are bothered to read descriptions underneath the video's, Dutch already stated that he measured the granite at a 41 cpm. Saying it's not meaningful because its on a rock, is a not meaningful comment.

if you go place a radiation detector on any granite counter top in any kitchen it will do the same thing - granite is naturally radiated, most vegetables in any produce department will do the same thing because they are irradiated before shipping out to warehouses & distribution centers.

I understand people describing to us that electronics and all the likes have radiation output as well. However what you are forgetting is that you add that radiation along with that which is streaming from Fukushima and its accumulative. So yes I'm not going to stop using my electronic devices and there is a certain amount of radiation I accept but no I'm not happy about their poor response times in getting this issue solved. Turkish dried apricots have high levels of radiation from Chernobyl, still, today. Also the radiation levels increase on a scale from the valley floor to the mountain tops due to the air being thinner up high. What are normal past recorded levels of the valley's and mountains, then make comparisons maybe to actual, factual recordings.
Even the sun, when heating up rocks during the day, increases radiation levels. It would be good to have more data pertaining your hypothesis. Many thanks.

@ionjeangreen Yes, I've read similar also, what I was talking about is a system, that occurs naturally between every valley floor and every mountain, the graph indicators are based on barometric pressure/air density etc.
It may be that there is some radiation in granite. But Dutch stated in his video notes that he'll retest away from the rock tomorrow. I'm speculating his results will still be over 100cpm. Minimum of 80 provided there is ample winds.
I guess I will have to take your word that wind increases the count but I am not sure I saw that. Probably not a good idea to put the meter on a rock. Come up with a standard way to positioning the meter. If you have a tripod suspend it from it at a constant height as you do you tests. You can make a makeshift tripod easy enough.
Remember you can not trust the government. They would let you into a state park with high radiation. They would let you hike Mt. Saint Helens when it was getting ready to blow. They blow up the twin towers. They let people eat poison in their food. So you are wrong the government would let people hike on granite that was high in radiation and remember they upped the acceptable levels of radiation in your drinking water.
I just finished researching radiation levels in granite. Apparently they are naturally really high. I also found a blog about a lady who goes around to so called green building shows to show people the granite is dangerous to have in your house. There is another big industry hiding information about a product people use in their kitchens and it gives you cancer ( granite counter tops= radiation= cancer) I am glad I found this out before I did my kitchen counter tops. Why don't you test food?

The radiation is everywhere doesn't matter where you go at this point, watch the last vid from arnie gunderson. Not eating this or that, staying indoors none of that will help at this point. For comparison: 120CPM is about the level of radiation from a 2% Thoriated Welding Rod. About 90% of TIG welders breath in the dust, smoke, and vapors 8hrs per day - 5 days a week at this level of activity. So it isn't really dangerous, but it does indeed show above normal levels. Some granite counter tops do peg in at 300CPM, now THAT is unhealthy.

Few of us spend the money to buy our own Ceriated (non-radioactive) electrodes because the personal financial cost is great, but it's hard to hear Joe died of cancer in your position a week before you started and then do exactly what he did for forty years while knowing better. Unfortunately it doesn't fix second-hand radiation exposure from the rest of the shop.
If it's not the place to be, what are you two young men and your wife Dutch, doing there? What about your future children? If you're going to go around to places and do testing aren't you going to get more radiation than the rest of us because your going from place to place instead of being in one place? It could be bad in one place, but your going beyond that. Think about your wife (or wives if Mike is married). Think about your unborn children. We all know it's not good.
another idea is to test water, then use various filters on different samples, and then retest again. I would be very interested to see the results of such a test

You must present the reason why the reading fluctuates with the wind speed. The wind does not necessarily increase the number of particles per unit of volume. You must explain why the density of isotopes changes with apparent wind speed. An accumulation of isotopes is a more likely a reason for the increase.

Nobody is forcing anyone to donate. If you have a desire to do so, then do it. Not to be a naysayer, but the best way to really drive a point across would be to have a reading of that area BEFORE Japan. Seems like a lot of people's eyes glaze over once you start talking about readings and have nothing to compare it back to. Know what I mean? Also from what I understand levels become more concentrated as it gets consumed into our food chain, i.e. ground water, plants, animals eat plants, we drink the milk, and so on.

A comparative of some collected rainwater there might be of interest. But I think you are catching the reading from the atmosphere. I don't know how much the rock could be interfering with the reading, 'cause I don't know if that even is granite.

It dose only have a half life of only 3 min, but will mess with readings.Plus when it decays it puts of two other Alpha halos, Polonium-214 and 210. Next to that, If you are bothered to read descriptions underneath the video's, Dutch already stated that he measured the granite at a 41 cpm. Saying it's not meaningful because its on a rock, is a not meaningful comment.

Thank you guys. I don't feel like such a quack up here in No. CA anymore for my 6mSv per day readings. On April 11, we will have accumulated 720mSv. We are moving east an packing right now.. There are no booms or smoke or boogy men. I understand people describing to us that electronics and all the likes have radiation output as well. However what you are forgetting is that you add that radiation along with that which is streaming from Fukushima and its accumulative. So yes I'm not going to stop using my electronic devices and there is a certain amount of radiation I accept but no I'm not happy about their poor response times in getting this issue solved. Quite frankly they should have buried the plant from the get go IMO.

@addiktion13 gotta remember, even if you bury em, the core can melt down into the ground, and if it hits water at all, it will cause a hydrogen explosion and unbury itself. Possibly releasing nastier stuff into the atmo. containment is breached on the bottom of one of the reactors, I think #2, but dont quote me on that. I have heard a few experts say, that there is nothing that can be done at this point, because it is so bad.

@ionjeangreen EM and microwave is a "bit" different than radionuclides with immense half lives. That being said, the readings here in No. CA today are 0.45 mSv (millisieverts) per hour, constant. At 6:30 AM while raining it was 0.65 mSv. A chest xray is 0.6mSv per hour, but lasts about a second. Wait till you get up to No. CA, Oregon and Washington. The real spin doctoring is happening up here!

Turkish dried apricots have high levels of radiation from Chernobyl, still, today. Also the radiation levels increase on a scale from the valley floor to the mountain tops due to the air being thinner up high. What are normal past recorded levels of the valley's and mountains, then make comparisons maybe to actual, factual recordings.
Even the sun, when heating up rocks during the day, increases radiation levels. It would be good to have more data pertaining your hypothesis. Many thanks.

It may be that there is some radiation in granite. But Dutch stated in his video notes that he'll retest away from the rock tomorrow. I'm speculating his results will still be over 100cpm. Minimum of 80 provided there is ample winds.

I guess I will have to take your word that wind increases the count but I am not sure I saw that. Probably not a good idea to put the meter on a rock. Come up with a standard way to positioning the meter. If you have a tripod suspend it from it at a constant height as you do you tests. You can make a makeshift tripod easy enough.

I just finished researching radiation levels in granite. Apparently they are naturally really high. I also found a blog about a lady who goes around to so called green building shows to show people the granite is dangerous to have in your house. There is another big industry hiding information about a product people use in their kitchens and it gives you cancer ( granite counter tops= radiation= cancer) I am glad I found this out before I did my kitchen counter tops. Granite in some cases has a very high radioactive reading ,and in fact some homes are required to have special ventilation systems after a large granite counter top installation = thats a fact jack ... peace and thanks for your work guys

um your a mile or more above sea level and your on a huge granite rock of course your going to get a high reading it's probably normal.

For comparison: 120CPM is about the level of radiation from a 2% Thoriated Welding Rod. About 90% of TIG welders breath in the dust, smoke, and vapors 8hrs per day - 5 days a week at this level of activity. So it isn't really dangerous, but it does indeed show above normal levels. Some granite counter tops do peg in at 300CPM, now THAT is unhealthy.

@Romenadan I know a welder, in his 70's, went to the doctor last week and the doctor said "yep, its cancer, your eat up with it - 4-6 weeks to live". ..from inhaling the smoke and smoking cigarettes.

@listentothis1 Not to diminish it in any way, but it is a common story inside the industry, we hear it all the time. Few of us spend the money to buy our own Ceriated (non-radioactive) electrodes because the personal financial cost is great, but it's hard to hear Joe died of cancer in your position a week before you started and then do exactly what he did for forty years while knowing better. Unfortunately it doesn't fix second-hand radiation exposure from the rest of the shop.

rayon and other known radioactive substances are released when rock like granite breaks down. That is why its higher I believe

If it's not the place to be, what are you two young men and your wife Dutch, doing there? What about your future children? If you're going to go around to places and do testing aren't you going to get more radiation than the rest of us because your going from place to place instead of being in one place? It could be bad in one place, but your going beyond that. Think about your wife (or wives if Mike is married). Think about your unborn children. We all know it's not good.

another idea is to test water, then use various filters on different samples, and then retest again. I would be very interested to see the results of such a test
