  • Anyone who has actually owned one of these cars, and knows how to drive, won't put shit on them. Weird that a few can complain about tranny problems, yet thousands of others not have any problems. Why haven't we run out of GTR gearboxes? I see several on ebay alone. AWD launches are one of the hardest things you can do to the car. Less worrying about that. Drive the car through some corners, and you'll learn what it's all about. You think his launch gave him consecutively fast lap times? lol.

  • @Donz2750 Are you kidding? A stock R35 will run nowhere near as fast as a V8 supercar and not even the R32 in this vid. The V8 supercars have 650hp and are very well set-up through the corners. An R35 runs in the GT class and it doesn't do well there and the others in the GT category are definitely not as fast as the V8's. They fast and loud mate, fast and loud...

  • Hey SKR1967 do you know what times the car was getting? On the radio at the end you hear 1:09 called out, but I'd of thought it could manage quicker than that?

  • That was abuot the times he was doing. IT could be a lot quicker but there are a few factors. He was running with close to 200-250 rwkw, he is a retired business man enjoying his GTR which he had not driven very often in the past so outrigh ttimes were not what he was out to acheive.

The car now runs at Touring car masters and manages top five finishes when he runs the car.

Search Amaroo park '92 for the more of the GTR

  • @KidKallum

I think it was 1.09 but it was detuned, he wasnt trying to do anything less than enjoying the drive

  • Intoxicating noise, could listen to that all day

  • lol @ the spastic that reckons the GT-R's tranny is shit after 6-7 launches.. have you know that the GT-R series's tranny can withstand 500+kw of power stock...

  • I am an owner and this is not correct.

I have treated my car brutally (including treating it to a large number hard launches) and it has performed brilliantly. These things are mindbogglingly bulletproof.

mhickory, I am curious. Have you actually purchased one of these cars (and are talking from experience) or are you just repeating what you have heard from others?

  • mhickory doesnt know shit ..... he probably owns a toyota corolla

  • prob just cant handle the fact that skaife and jim richards won that bathurst in like 92 or 93. as Jimmy said to the ford and holden supporters booing him "you guys are a pack of assholes".

  • There were 30 GTR owners at the event in the clip with no such problem.

This clip is not here for short minded Holden fans trying to getv their jollies from people who appreciate one of the better cars ever to come off the production line.

    Grow up

  • I think he was reffering to the new GTR.

Totally agree any of the old R32-34 have bulletproof gearboxes.

But if he did mean the new ones i havta agree with him as i have heard quite a few horror stories bout there boxes already.

  • Totally true. Cant say if its true about a r32-r34 boxes since i havent driven my r32 that much yet. But the gearbox thing on the R35 is true, since they even have it on best motoring (keiichi is racing a red gtr and the car suddenly refuses to shift, he's stuck in 3rd gear. I think it stalled aswell)

  • you're wrong dude. the gtr transmission is extremely sturdy. if anything it'll be the clutch that can't take the abuse and that would be down to driver skill/inexperience.launching at 6000rpm is no problem for any skyline gtr. can't speak for the new model gtr's but i'd imagine they're just as sturdy too.

  • have heard that there are problems with launch control etc, and owners ending up with burnt out clutches or trannys, can't remember which. only the new ones though.

  • nah....thats bullshit...my mate rapes his gtr and its still fine....

you research was probly on a holden site

  • Lovely car! Thanks for posting. I miss having a variety of cars at Bathurst

Just for the record (Donz2750 etc), a stock R35 GTR would not "whoop the v8's". For one, the average GT-R is a road car, not a race car. Very big difference.

A stock R35 GT-R did set the Bathurst lap record for a production car, at 2:25.59 (set this year in March). That's fair fast, but no where NEAR the average laps for V8 Supercars, which are around the 2:08-2:10 mark, with the lap record being 2:06.8594.

  • settle down please.

the current formula for touring cars is not the fastest in the world but it provides close racing.

  • my brothers got a 1991 model nissan skyline 4WD GTR twin turbo, and he took the motor out and used it in a tarago "people-mover" van, and installed bigger turbos, and it's pretty quick at the moment. im tempted to try and fit a 220i ozi built HSV motor that i found at the pick-a-part shop around the corner from my house, into the skyline. and ill see how quick it is.

  • Plz explain how he fit it in a tarago? Have to say i think your full of shit.

  • they do fit, heaps of people have put RB's in tarago's.

  • Like who? Got any links? Google hasnt heard of any neither have any of the big forums.

  • i've seen em pop up on carpoint etc.

  • You maybe right but still think your both full of shit. If google and the big car forums havent heard of it it hasnt happened.

  • well, i havn't seen an RB26DETT in a tarago, thats just a waste of $10,000. But i've seen RB20 and 25DET's in them.

  • why should C.A.M.S allow skylines back into touring car racing and ruin it all?? after all, it is called the australian touring car racing, and if you're gonna race any cars except holdens and fords, you may as well re-name the category. ATCC at the moment is good enough as it is, the last thing we need is for the skyline to come along and just ruin it again.

  • Just because its the Australian touring car race doesnt mean it only has to have Aussie cars. US japan ect have there countries in the names and they have cars from all over. And how will putting some other cars in there ruin it? You mean ruin your chances of winning? What sort of stupid redneck bogan wants to watch a race between 2 cars that are basically exactly the same with different fibreglass shells on them. You pussies just dont wanna be embarrassed.

  • Quality video man, I myself am a Holden fan, however, the dominance at the Mountain from the GT-R's was sensational. Unfortunately, the V8's of the time weren't allowed as much power as they are now, which could have led to much better racing.

  • They pretty much got all the power out of the v8 they could in those days. The Nissans were actually heavily restricted, with restrictions to power output and weight penalties. The Sierras were also restricted with slight weight penalties and they weren't allowed to run the wide rear tyres they were homologated with.

  • mate i like your positive out look here, you are one of only a few that arent ignorant about true facts (other ignorant holden supporters). i am jap import fan however i dont dislike v8s at all and i love the v8 supercars of today .. i just hate all those other commodore drivers with there cheapo VNs yelling at me hearing that my turbo car is a shitbox..

at the time the we all now the GTRs where ahead of its time.. unfortunetly they werent welcomed by most aussie supports because it wasnt a v8

  • the gtr was hated back then for good reason.if you wanted to go fast back then you had v8 plain and simple. no one could afford a gtr, let alone make them quicker. to the average aussie it was far easier and cheaper to modify v8. it was all about what the average fan could relate with. what wins on sunday sells on monday!

  • Bullshit, just the V8's were fucking weak, if they put the new GT-R in with the Supercars now it will rape them all.

  • The GTR had the advantage of being light and AWD and good acceleration and could do less re-feuls, not like those 5.2 litre V8's, which i dont hate, just annoying when people waste there money on something that loses value it leaves the showroom.

  • One of the few cars to win without actually getting the checkered flag.

  • Well my spelling is never was very good!!That's life..

ford351ci, why bother with even writing one eyed rubbish? Do not ever return to view or comment on my video footage if you continue with this poor attitude.

  • to tell u the truth i really think nissans are crap, cos they're just re-badged datsuns, but i dont mind the skyline, (only the R32 model though)

  • Wow then you really are an idiot!

  • Yea i know, coz datsons a rebadges nissans Dipshit. Dont u know u shitty ford ass kisser that datsons are mad in Japan, they just hav different badges. Jeez u should do som reasrch before u get proven worng by a 13 year old kid, BIATCH> Ford smells(not the mustangs or explores :D)

  • Fords & Holdens rock, they're awesome oldschool cars! I used to own a 351 Cleveland with 2V heads in my old XD. BUT! Nissan engines are significantly better engineered and their cars are lighter and handle better, that's why I put a Nissan V8 into a Skyline and it shits on commonwhores and falcoons, so stop being such ignorant rabid fanboys already and get a clue!

  • Sweet nice sounding car.... u spelt scafe's name wrong though its Skaife. doesnt matter nice!!!!

  • yeah, i'd have loved to been there to see that. very historically important. i'm in los angeles and am a fan of the bathurst R32 years.

  • wow. that is that actual car driven by him and richards at bathurst in the early 1990s. nice. car sounds amazing.

  • Yes it is the actual car. I only hae a small amount of footage of unfortunatly. Will get more next year

    cheers
