this people fking retarted. youtube compression can effectively make 50k cameras look like ten dollar cameras. The red is overkill for snowball fight lol.
You monkeys. You can't tell what it looks like compressed for the web. Yeah, it doesn't look like 4K--you aren't looking at 4K! Just wait till you see it projected, though: there's some beautiful stuff being shot out there. I shot a feature with the Red, and I'm a convert. (See above vid response.)
I'm sorry, but the people at RED are hyping this camera by creating accounts and posting how great it is. Just look at this video! It looks like video!!! And you want me to pay $50K for this camera for such poor results? I DONT THINK SO! There are dozens of vids on here about the Red camera, but they arte for hyping the camera and few of the posts actually show video taken by the camera and that footage is nothing less than the quality of VIDEO!
first off.. I worked for red... no one wastes time doing that BS..
second off.. there are tons of people that thing just cuz they can buy a RED one.. that they will become magical film makers and make beautiful images.. they are wrong.. the camera can produce amazing images... as long as its in the right hands..
amcadam, do you enjoy watching shitty video looking movies at a theater? I wouldn't mind if all big budget movies for the next 20 years were shot on film. I hope I don't have to see another viper/f900 sequence on a big screen ever again. There are some horrible looking big budget movies out there.
'Knowing' will show what these new cams can do, still the best looking option would be film.
It's a digital camera for cinema, that uses a large (sort of) Super35-sized sensor to capture images. This allows for short depth of field, compared to your average DV-cam. DOF is determined by lens aperture and subject magnification (simple explanation).
Red One isn't the only camera with a Super35-sized sensor, but hopefully these cams will replace the others with smaller sensors. The best would of course be if all cinematographers would just stick to 35mm film.
lol

Look how far video resolution has come. We went from shooting in 240p to shooting in 2k and uploading in 240p. How amazing.

Dont worry, to those who know what's up, your images are fantastic. Lets just ask them to shoot something that looks even CLOSE.

Nice! I predict there will be many RED owners shooting such relevant, interesting, ground-breaking, and thought-provoking short films.
Funny that those who seem most obsessed by the Red camera, are those who can do the least with it. Comedy.

It needs to be shot at 4K so the full depth of field is recorded. If you get sick of the camera I'll take it off your hands for free :)

The depth of field does not change between 2K and 4K.
2K is essentially a cropped image from the Mysterium sensore used in the RED camera.
