  • Any expert Tiechew dropping by here? The Tiechew words and accent are exactly the same terms/words that I speak every day, with only one exception, 睡 (to sleep)sometime I say "uk4" but more often I say "i6" in 6th tone (the same tone as "gu6"舅 for calling uncles from maternal side). But the girl sings it sounds like "i2" second tone or "ik4" in 4th tone (the same tone as in "tseg4"叔 for uncle from paternal side of the family"

    请问潮州话强者一下,“ 睡”字潮州话口语应该怎么说呢?从小以来我都说“uk4”或“i6"但是黄佳唱音好像是“ik4”?

  • @10r57, hehehe, actually it's tiechew play on words: tsai=ni (载=年)year,if she sang "nuo sa tsai" then yes it means "two or three years", but she sang "sa no tsai" "three and two years" or 3+2=5 years of marriage and have 4 or 5 kids. This play on words added humor to the song (pointing out that they are very "busy", lol) and yet maintains some innocence for children listeners' sake.

  • hhiii i can speak teo chew fluently....

  • ai si.....ah hia chua lau ah so...si loh ane khuan...kha ki nang!!

  • Sounds okay for USA Teochiu.. accent is fine.. no problem to understand.. where r u from?

  • I bought it in China, it think it is chaozhou city's accent... I am not sure, as I also speak teochew dialect mixed with alot of indonesian words :)

  • @linmuxi , this video was filmed on the shore of the Hang Gang river (韩江) in Tie'ang county (潮安县), and guessing from the girl's accent and song's lyric words, this accent is from the region near Tie'ang and Kieg'ia 揭阳 old counties line. It's kind of a rural Tie'ang accent with some Kieg'ia influence.

  • อาเจ้ ร้องเพลงเพราะดีนะครับ

    lao gim cai

  • I'm Teochew nang from Medan(but now at Taipei), may I now where's this song from?(Indo)?

  • CD-nya saya beli di Tiociu (Chaozhou)

  • Love the imagery! Beautifully sung! Pretty girl! Proud to be Teochew!

  • Good to hear you are proude of Teoshew, Go go teoshew nang.

  • Nice to hear teochew songs... funny thing is that some words/ sounds has been mixed with the local accent. Teochew people all over the world are One Happy Family :)

  • Where is this Teochiu song from?

So difficult to find a Hakka song, but I enjoyed listening to it. I understand Hokkien but I understand abt 60% of wat she sings...hehe. Not bad, TQ for sharing.

  • You are welcome. I bought the VCD from Chaozhou... so it is originally from there. Where are you from? There are alot of Hakka song in youtube. And they are better in the way that are original and not adapted from existing Mandarin or Cantonese songs.

  • Sorry, my typo. What i mean is Teochew songs is difficut to find. I m from Australia. U from?

Hakka songs...I dun like, song sung in Hakka sound weird. But Teochew dialects sound very smooth & gentle, very plesant to listen.

My grandma & mum like this classic Teochew song "門腳一叢梨" -"meng kaa jid zhan lai". R u Teochew-nang?

  • Hey Yangyang,

Le ho! I am from Indonesia but now staying in Holland. And yes, I am tiociu nang. I guess you are originally from Malaysia aren't you? I have more tiociu songs to upload later :) Most of tiociu folk songs are simple but funny to listen. It seems that you are interested in Mangnam culture, are you an anthropologist or something like that?

  • linmuxi - so we share same surname...Lim or Lin is same. I m Minnan(Hokkien) from Penang; where many Hokkien & Teochew live together in neighbourhood, speaking the similar accent to Medan. No, I m Not anthropologist, but interested to preserve d dialects of Minnan that is slowly dying, due to the shrinking number of speakers worldwide. Except Cantonese & Mandarin, all other dialects speakers are shrinking.
