Yeah, I was - one of them. Jerry Antonius was the first after Richard (second half of 78, I think), then me (1979). Then the band split for a year or so, and when Richard went back to record Destiny Street a year or two later, he got another guy whose name slips my mind. (I was already in a band called The Nitecaps by that time.
It was great fun, I learned a lot from each musician, and I'm forever honored by the association.
props, don't know what to say, I'm stunned, ur were in the voidoids holy shit!
If you ever meet him again, tell him there are still young people who listen to his music today and know what real punk is! funny cause I'm currently reading "Please kill me"
Hey there - I still see Richard from time to time, including a few weeks ago, when he read some of his poetry at the Museum Of Modern Art here in NYC. The next time I see him, I will pass on your message, for sure.
Hell is reissuing "Destiny Street" next month, and it will feature a bonus track that Richard and I wrote together in 1979. I didn't even know the track still existed until two months ago. The past is a slippery little devil, ain't it?
I was the bass player in the Voidoids from 1979-80. The part you've recorded is accurate, but funny, because it's half Ivan's part and half Bob's part. I guess that their respective genius lies there - it's all boiled down to one great guitar riff!!
I loved Bob, but he left. I love Ivan, and he's still around. I love Richard, because he always treated me well & paid me fairly. I'm proud to have been a Voidoid!
Yes, but in 1978 he decided he no longer wanted to play bass. Another bass player was brought in and left, and in January 1979 I moved from roadie to bassist! I was in the Voidoids for about a year until forming my own band, The Nitecaps. I am represented on collections of Voidoids recordings that span that era, such as "Time" "RIP" and "Funhunt" as Jahn Xavier
I'm such a Voidoids nut my friends call me Mrs. Hell ... I now take it the same way Richard took his name from Rimbaud, as my nom de plume for all things artistic
Besides being tired of playing bass, Richard's impetus for the shift was the departure of Mark Bell, who left in mid 1978 to be rechristened Markey Ramone.
Oh, yeah - I DID kill for that. Whaddya think happened to the first guy? ;-)

Keep up the good work!

Wait ... are you REALLY Richard's later-era bassist?
ClashCityRockers0 3 years ago
If you were, I should say anyone'd be proud to've been a Voidoid! I would have killed for that ... joking, joking ;)

I was indeed a member - it's not the kind of thing one makes up for the glory; I mean, talk about f***ing your way to the middle! :-)

Wow ... I need you to tell me all about it!

I wouldn't claim to be the expert but 2 things would help. Go E, Bb, F for the intro. It's gotta be that dischord.
Use your open D string and the 5th, 4th & 2nd fret on your G for that run in the verse.
You get a better flow.

what chords are you using quite hard to figure it out from the video. Loev your interpretation though lot better than the other versions Ive heard.
