  • spot quiz: what is the most abundant metallic element in the earth's crust?

    *Don't use google!

  • @StudentOfObjectivism I fail! What is it? I think the most abundant rock is "feldspar."

  • @ObjectivistAesthetic Aluminum. I've no idea what 'feldspar' is though.

  • What do you mean by saying that the lecturer went on about the material of paint being "meaningful"? Was the lecturer saying that, everything else being equal, art was inherently better & more artistic if done with paint , as opposed to, say, pencils?

I've seen beautiful ice sculptures. I don't know of people saying ice is meaningful. :-P

  • @legendre007 Yeah, it's a terrible idea. I've heard many people say paint is meaningful in and of itself (which is obviously nonsense!) and they are almost always referring to thick, smeary paint (like Frank Auerbach) although I have heard it said in regards to thin, washy paint as well (referring to Agnes Martin's paintings.) I've never heard it said about thin, perfectly uniform paint for some reason.

I really just think it's BS art-speak that no one has bothered to pick apart!
