  • You should have used Purple People Eater as a soundtrack to that footage in the street.

  • thanks! you just saved me some money

  • odd mines the RD 32 spearhead same box only it says 20M water resistant.... and has no IR lights.... i guess people complained too much about the purple and maybe too many broke at 30M under water X3 mine was made a few days before 2012 so its a bit newer and it cost more...

  • @height198cm I reviewed the updated version too. You can see it on my channel, its the Yellow model..uploaded in Jan 2012

  • @Techmoan nah! you are on the right side of the road m8! :)

meaning your driving on the left :D

    uk :D

  • Can you tell me what causes audio stutter ? I am using a cheap Vivitar 7022 with a 2 gb card.

It does it intermitently some days a lot and some not at all. I appreciate your time, Thank you.

  • Your reviews are SO good! The motion activation was quite appealing to me but after you said about the 3 minutes switching off when no motion is detected, its become totally pointless. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • the guy in the black suit is actually a ninja on his way for a desk job interview.

  • what else?.. handlebar mount was ok to mount it on my motorbike, though vibration cracked mounting slider in the end (some rubber band would help i guess). and my camera did not turn into IR mode - the same white LED were on.

  • thanks a lot for this review. i have had the same camera (from DX) until i decided to film the fish in the sea... lucky me - i had no purple colour, lucky you - your battery was soldered better - i had to re-solder my battery and it seems i did not assemble it well afterwards. so salty water leaked inside. pity - before i was ably to dive it even up to 1 meter depth.

  • Great review, thanks a lot !!!

  • @baldwinjackson41 Connect it to your computer via USB (or take the MicroSD card out of the camera and attach it to your PC) then drag the video files off the card.

  • i think i have watched at least 10/15 of your videos and i dont find them boring at all. they are the only videos that give a good review of the products. :)

  • thank you :)

  • thanks for good review.

  • Thanks a lot, this is a very good and helpful review.

Covers everything, good video. The talk is interesting and understandable.

By the way i love the witty british humor :-)

I returned the camera back to the shop....i dont like purple.

  • i have this camera do you know why it lags or tags alot i have an 8 gb memory card

  • 1:41 Aldi!

  • Comment removed

  • Excellent info. I wondered why my Chinese Poseidon HD 720p POV camera appeared to drop frames no matter how good the memory card is.. I'll have to remember to stay away from the cameras that create the avi files...

  • I laughed my head off at 16:17

  • Lambo at 10:18

  • nice review thanks a lot Techmoan you really a big help for us who are about to buy action cams

  • great review.....

  • hahhah 11:30 looks like the harry potter movie set :=))

  • 10:12 lambo *___*

    Great review.

  • I have noticed a significant error on your review. Although the lights go out after 3 minutes in motion detect (video or still), my unit will continue to record when it detects motion. I would think that it turns off the top lights so that the camera remains less visible in covert situations, although having to wait for 3 minutes seems uneccessary. It still responds to button inputs as before. I have seen worse cameras than this.

  • My footage with this camera is really grainy and heaps more purple than yours... I took this film inside, so I hope tomorrow when it's sunny outside I'll be able to get better quality out there (that's what it's made for, outside :P)... When you got yours was it like this? Did you have to do something to fix it? I really want this to work properly... :(

  • You remind me of James from Top Gear :D

  • i got given this camera as a gift. I am unable to connect it to the tv. It came with all the correct cables but won't register that its connected to the tv. Do you have any suggestions as to why this is

  • @flyon91

Hi. With my Samsung TV I do this. Take the connecting lead and plug the yellow AV connector into the yellow AV IN socket on the side of the TV. Ditto with the white lead. I leave the other end of the lead free at this point. With the TV remote change SOURCE to AV input. You should not see TV channels at this point. Pick up the camera and switch it on. Plug the connector into the rear of the camera. Now I can see the camera picture on my TV. Hope this helps. Happy Christmas. :)

  • Fantastic review gr8 infotainment. Thanx 4 sharing.

  • Fantastic review. I really like your style of presentation. I was going to buy one of these cams from Aldi (Aust) this Saturday, but I'll save my money for something better. You've saved me $80.00. Ta muchly :)

  • Thanks Techmoan, I like your humourous presentation method. I found your review as Aldi in Australia are releasing this camera for $80AUD but based on your video, I might give it a pass.

All is not lost though, I have subscribed.

  • @Mainsail1975au @Techmoan I got the camera from Aldi Australia, but only because I know they have a 60day return policy.

I have only tried it out once, but have noticed the same issues you have mentioned.

The bike mount is not tight, although I did try and wedge it with paper, but still got some CMOS camera wobble.

Dropped frames, regular 5 & 10 duplicates. Just ordered a 32gb class10, but your test show this wont change much.

I used the bike mount and went for a ride

  • @Mainsail1975au @Techmoan the files are large, 14m was 1.7Gb.

I can't find a reasonable way to edit the footage to get it onto youtube.

I am not going to upload 1.7Gb.

It'll be going back soon I guess.

  • LAMBORGINI!

  • “...and I suppose this is what it would look like if being drowned by me wearing purple”

  • I've also had terrible luck using MicroSD for 720p cameras, though I always shoot at 60fps if I have the option, so maybe MicroSD just isn't up for the high bandwidth requirements. I figure it's got to be memory when a standard size SD class 4 works fine but a MicroSD class 6 craps out. I've reproduced this numerous times with several card makers. :(

  • MJPEG is an outstanding format to have video recorded in though. Especially over h.264. Very easy to edit. It also means that you are ensured to get full frames for each frame of video, whereas h.264 does not retain full frame information.

MJPEG playback also depends how fast your PC is since its very hard on CPU. But this does look like the source footage is lacking. VirtualDub also isn't the greatest application. Very buggy and bloated.

  • @gymkhanadog bro i think you're wrong. cheaper crappier cameras use mjpeg because they can use a cheaper lower class processor to record the video. But in this video you see they went too cheap and crappy so even with mjpeg it skips frames.

  • Nice & funny vid, well done! =o)

  • Have you tested RD32II? It seems to be better one.

  • Men I really love the way you review, amazing :-)

but why didn't you buy the Eagle Eye HD119 ??

    This one is H.264 !?

I'm really curious about yor opinion on this one !

  • Another great review, for me 17 mins fly by and not bored at all. Such a shame the video quality is so poor and PURPLE !.

I actually liked the design but without watching this review i would have never guessed it could be out performed by a much cheaper HD keyring camera.

Thanks for uploading, keep them coming.

Ps. Nice motor, RX7 perhaps ?

  • Great review, thanks for this! I just reconsidered buying this one (which means I'd probably have to spend a bit more on a proper one though) cheers!

  • nice test thx a lot for informations

i ll never buy this one

  • The pimp fashion funny coloring is privative of this particular model, or is it common to all IR night visIon cameras?

  • Hi, good review, sounds fair and reasonable and I imagine you’ve saved a lot of folk the misery of buying something that doesn’t come up to scratch. Thanks for all the effort.

    Kind Regards ... Andy

  • My only regret is that your review came a week too late. I've bought this camera and while being a slight noob when it comes to video, i managed to determine exactly the same flaws, only at my own expense. I must add that i've had to return the first camera i've received after it let water in at around 8m depth. I've still to test it at about 15-20m which is my apnea target depth, and will let you know if it survives. Awesome review mate, regards from Portugal.

  • Would you recommend this camera for 26 EUR ?

  • Hello, I have this same camera and I have the problem that the videos will be tapping optics swing me, which memory card you are using? and your videos, you also happens that that is cut every 20 minutes and each video takes you 20min 2GB? an update for the camera to compress more videos and do not occupy much??? THANK YOU, I hope your answer

  • 10:15 lambo XD

  • THX for review

  • Thank you for ALL of your reviews.....You have saved many people from many headaches and agravating purchases.....I was going to buy this cam BUT NOT NOW......Sincerely Thank You Again......Your Friend from South Carolina >EYAN

  • i can agree with the issue on the frame dropping and the color distortion, but i think that given the camera is an action sports camera, the microphone issue would be almost irrelevant for action use. On a fast moving vehicle, wind noise would screw with the mic so most action cams have their mics located in a part of the camera where they would be muffled. The gopro cameras work like that.

  • Excellent review as always.

The purple comes from the camera having no optical infra red filter.

  • 01:45 - Everything was summed up in two minutes.

  • Man, this is the BEST review of anything I've seen on youtube so far.

Covers everything, good video, top quality sound is always welcome. The talk is interesting, understandable, and very good humour here and there. 10/10

  • You have another fan in the Netherlands. Very funny review.

  • I should watch this vid before ordering this camera ... but i must check it myself ...

  • In Virtual Dub how do you find missing frames, do you just play the videos

  • @Sh012222 Just load it up and click through it frame by frame, using the right arrow, whilst keeping an eye on the time and frame number like I do at the beginning of this video

  • I'll be interested to see what's INSIDE it cause it's seem bloody massive!!

  • like ur vids man,. .ur good..

  • Another hopeless camera reviewed very professionally plus lots of bonus wit.

    Thanks Techmoan.

  • Very funny and informative video. "Bear in mind Prince isnt playing in town and there's no Barney convention on" made my day :o) Brilliant.

Also i didnt know it was illegal to talk loudly after 11pm so thank you very much for that. keep up the good work

  • Hahaha this review is awesome and your commentary is soo funny, this is what it would look like if you would get drowned by me wearing purple, wich is very unlikely. The purple ofcourse not the drowning, that is very likely

  • How does the 'Poseidon Waterproof 720P HD Sports Action Video Camera' compair to this, do you know?

  • @cloggsy1971 I haven't tested the Poseidon so can't really comment - but since it's another camera that records in mjpeg avi I won't be getting one in to review.

  • You're on the wrong side of the road.

  • Great reviews, love it..

  • Once again... a really funny and worthwhile review. It wasn't too long from my standpoint... I didn't have to produce the thing. It was much better than 99.9% of the reality programs on USA TV, and if it were on, I would watch each week. One day you'll find a product I would like to buy... seems everything with a good concept is bad in actual production. Keep up the reviews!!!!!! Thanks.

  • Everyone wants to be the Joker

  • Very hilarious and psychedelic video review

  • Manchester :P

  • LOL @ 12:08 "I've done a quick change into my purple outfit"

  • Awesome review of a sub-par camera ;)

I do like many of the accessories of this camera, but it doesn't seem worth the price to try to re-purpose them with a decent cam.

in case noone indicated before this, I think the 'purple' effect has to do with the ir filter (or lack of one) that helps the cam to be sensitive to 'night mode'

    A ? for you:

Can you tell if the 120 degree wide angle a result of the out side case being a wide angle lens? (or is it just a H20 proof case?)

    Thanks again Techmoan!

  • @joshstube I thing the 120 degree lens is part of the camera imaging sensor rather than a part of the case - as far as I can tell.

  • @Techmoan Hi Dear Friend, i do a surf video with my RD32, with TF card 16Gb Class 10... i think that is very good... the link is: (watch?v=exlRs-ufMGk) thank you for your nice informations!

  • wonderful review :)

  • I'm always surprised that almost every single camera you have reviewed has the same type of menu system, but then again they look like they are cobbled together from bits off the shelf. At least this one has a decent case (Except for placement of mic).

  • Lamborghini @ 10:19 How you didn't move your head towards it?

  • 10 hours of editing wow thanks for taking the time to warn us about not so good cameras that dont do what you would expect

  • What you have discovered is that the camera do not in fact shoot in 30p at all but rather in 60i. The 30p frames are wrapped in a 60i format but they are still in there...

any NLE can take 60i footage and make it into 30p just by importing the footage into a 30p timeline.

In fact the 60i are just two consecutive 30p frame repeated.

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife Nope. These cameras are supposed to be 30p. Howver some seconds consist of 20 frames, some 22 some 23...... See my review of the HD808#11 that does record 30 frames a second...every second. The thing that I really discovered is that these cameras are just a bit rubbish.

  • @Techmoan and you are using a class 10... Image a class 2

  • very good and funny :) i always enjoy your videos! would another car dvr be a video possibility?

  • @moviedout It's a distinct possibility, more so now that it looks like I'll have to sell off my bike soon. I haven't got any new cameras on order though, so it may be quite a while - don't hold your breath.

  • Wow, thanks for the quality job. Would love to know how long your process is to produce these videos?

  • @VictorSinclair Short answer - Too long. Long answer - well I've never really timed it properly - but on and off - two weeks of prep and shooting, with an intensive 10 hour edit and voice-over at the end.

  • sorry for going off topic here but at 9:53, why are the cars moving on the wrong side of the road?

  • @alex14469 I trust that you are being ironic.

  • do you ever get a good product? lol

  • @beastlybob36 Seems like it's been a while. I was beginning to wonder why I called the site Techmoan - but recently it's been very appropriate. Hopefully there will be slightly less moaning in the future.

  • junk sick of chinna selling land fill to us

  • WHY DO YOU HATE oompa loompa,s WHY THEY WORK SO HARD TO GIVE US SUGAR SHAME ON YOU

  • Hahaha another great review

  • lol great vid as usual.

  • I've the hardware of this camera that hobby king has and i'dont know why but it does't have the purple problem and also thet motion activation continue when leds go off untill the battery or the memory stop it

  • Love your reviews! You can tell you put allot of effort in and yours reviews are by far some of the best produced :-) Keep up the good work

  • Did anybody notice that Lamborghini at 10:17 ??

  • Another fantastic review :-)

  • Great Job as usual ,keep up thae good fight.I must admit that purple is not fo me,but You seem to carry it well,{sorry bout that]

  • xD The purple is just hilarious.

  • I would stand here and watch more reviews like this all night!

    :D

    Great job!

    :D

  • Motion activated video would be good for surfing. Waves only last a few seconds, so the deactivation after 3 minutes wouldn't be a problem.

  • All CCD and CMOS sensors are sensitive to IR, and I think even to UV at the other end of the spectrum. So they typically have filters placed in front of them somewhere to only allow visible light. This camera obviously has no IR filter in order to get the "night vision" capability but it means that any IR light in daylight scenes adds a purple tint.

  • @imroy264 You said that a lot more eloquently and succulently than I could...thanks for the additional info.

  • @imroy264 I've added this info in as an annotation in the video as I thought it would be a useful addition, many thanks.

  • Great to see so much content from you!

  • i cant believed i actually watched this video from the beginning to the end

  • I have to say, I am a huge Formula 1 fan, it comes on TV every 2 weeks. When it comes to anticipation and eagerness to see more of 'what's good' It is a huge toss up between your videos and watching #LewisHamilton spar. Keep it up please. I demand a new video weekly.

  • I like the world in purple...

  • New Techmoan video *thumbs up*

  • One thing that I forgot to mention is that the video files from this camera could be imported into and edited in iMovie without any problem (unlike the files from the ACT20)

  • Thanks for another good review.

  • NICE REVIEW, i think it would be worth buying for about £20 but other than that i agree with you

  • these reviews are great, I now know lots of cameras that I won't buy

  • You should check out what cameras they use in the cars in Top gear. Those ones on the dashboards when they're driving alone, which give really good quality. Something tells me they cost marginally more.

  • @flobber238 I've seen a number of GoPros used on TV shows. They seem to use them whenever they think that there is a chance of the camera getting damaged.

  • Being drowned by Techmoan wearing purple? One can only dream...

  • at 9:54 seconds... I used to work on that street :)

    pointless information for you :)

  • lamborghini at 10:18

  • Thanks I was waiting on your review, prior to purchasing. You save me some cash.

  • i click a few ads to support your channel. keep up the good work man!

  • @thebibleisfiction Thanks old chap....I can't ask people to do this.....but it really helps out.

  • I was think of getting the digi clock spy cam, like a bed side didgi clock which has motion detection on it,i was wondering if this would have the same prob as your one switching it self off? also it says you can record for 12 hrs but if it was on motion detection only i wonder would it last for a couple of days without needing to charge it

  • You sure this camera wasn't made by a pimp studio?

  • @donspew Kiss my pimp cain :D

  • thanks Techmoan you are the man, night vision is a little of a bummer when it comes to a LED and windows I've got night vision wifi cam and I was trying it to use it indoors as a cam to record out side parking just for my own cars. I was angry when it could not record outdoors over the window at night :/ and camera is not made to be outside. well it can be used as a indoors spy cam only or a day time guard cam which is not very good for me at all :/

  • Very nice review, If some one did build a good small hd action cam people would buy it, spend money to make money ;)

  • 16:24 for the summary.

  • The gay Teletubbie was recorded using that same camera.

  • Great review! - Can't wait for the next one.

  • Great review (as usual,) shame the camera! So, for a bicycle helmet cam, which one would you recommend; ACT20, 808HD or something else? Thanks in advance :o)

  • @cloggsy1971 I'd go for a Jumbo HD808... In fact that's what I'm going to be using. It may not be waterproof or wide-angle, but if you can live with that then the quality combined with the small file sizes, a 2hr (ish) battery life and semi-regular firmware updates means that it's the one to beat. Details of the retailers selling this version of the HD808#11 are on my blog post of 1st July on TECHMOAN.COM

  • @Techmoan Even those have problems. Battery life is rubbish and not 2 hours, more like 40mins. When it runs out, most of the file it is recording doesn't save. Some even can't use a decent SD card and frames are dropped quite often. Buying from ebay is a risk as a lot of sellers are less than honest. I am still searching for a decent camera to use in a car.

  • @urbex2007 Are you sure you aren't thinking about the original HD 808 #11 with the original firmware rather than the new Jumbo version. I reviewed the original and it never dropped a single frame, it has a 40 min battery life and did delete the last file when the battery ran out. Later firmwares fixed this problem & the new Jumbo version promises a 110-120 min battery life. You can only buy these from Ebay as that's the only place the manufacturer sells them. More info about the HD808 on my blog

  • The fact that you are concerned about my time and warn me in the begging the item is crap, makes me love you even more.. lol.... i wish everyone did that..

  • why are you drowning your subscribers lol

  • Good review, just waiting for you the 808#13 now :) Apparently it's 1080p, but only 15fps..

  • @locouk 15fps....not one for me then, also 720p is enough for a tiny lens. I will however be getting a Jumbo #11 in. That's the #11 but with a 2hr battery life.

  • @Techmoan It's a shame they upgraded to 1080p and then messed the whole thing up with the low frame rate.. Very disappointing considering the case is larger.

  • Another excellent and entertaining video. I have to say I was fairly impressed by the quality of this. I could live with the purple and I didn't think the jerkiness seemed noticeable, especially considering how badly my bloggie offends. The turning itself off after a couple of minutes is the thing that would drive me crazy though. What is the point of having motion sensitive activation if it is not going to stay on long enough to use it.

  • lol this is what it would look like if i was drowning you i laughed, another great review keep it up

  • OMG IT'S CHRISTMAS!!! I love your videos Techmoan!!!!

  • Honest from the beginning, Its really refreshing to look at a review where the person doesn't use the whole video to justify their decision for buying the thing

  • 1rd

  • @citysambo 1rd?? lol

    fail xd
