So much more passion than in most UK school choirs... But then I think if I got to sing songs like this at school I'd be pretty passionate about it too.
I've been asked for the lyrics for this by a Quebecois colleague: here they are, compliments of my Sotho friend, Rose Malotane of the Polokwane Chorale:
Kganna koloi
Ke masawana nthoena ke masawana.
A oi oi oi oa…
Drive a car
This is nothing, you can drive this thing. A wee wee wee wa!
Well, its more important in countries that have its own culture. WE used to have a culture and a musical sound (Copland for example), but we lost it when we had to be the "Worlds Country." Too bad, really, because I think America could have added to the richness of a cultural world if we had any sense of 'self." So, keep searching YouTube for these awesome videos...
@bendur92 Well not entirely. There is just definetely an emphasis on singing and dancing and being in the choir. Learning the parts( i.e. Sopranno, tenor, alto etc.) ...But I went to school in Britain..we sang alot. We were kids..You can't go to school and not sing. That's ludicrous
Can you PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE tell me where i can find the lyrics (and notes) for this BEAUTIFUL song? I am a teacher in the Netherlands and I would looooooooooooove to teach the children this... !!
Dan sul jy uitvin, dat kinders van blankers nie so mooi kan zing nie. Jou sal baaie lang met jou klassie repeteer, maar dit sal nooit so klink as hierdie kinders op die vid nie. Geen kwestie van ras; is kultuur.

I get an impression that singing is really important for the education in South-Africa. Compered to "the industrial" countries, is that right?
