WAS IN ASHEVILLE THIS WEEKEND LOVED IT it was my wifes and i 21 wedding annv. we went to the house and walked the town and had a great time and the snow was nice also.
cant wait to go back in the springtime to see all the plants in full bloom!!
i live 30 minites from this place called biltmore house... and ive never seen it in person ..i might consider going there if i could get someone to buy an admission ticket of $50.00 to look at my Jackass in my pasture...but till then i could care less ...
@caleb811197 agreed. it is privately owned still. i wish hteyd open it up as a B&B maybe a couple weeks per year, id pay anythign to spend a few days there.
I've been here also and I can tell you I think it would be a blast to stay there at night. It is so big you can lose yourself in all of the halls that this place has. Truly remarkable to see though.
You need to check out Christmas Candlelight evenings. Its wonderful. They bring in a 35ft. tree into the banquet hall and fully decorate it.Stayed at the Inn on biltmore many times. The food at the Deerpark and Bistro is so good. Also try to check out the behind the scenes tours, you get to go up in the organ loft, subbasement, rooftop etc. I did a special tour once where I got to see the den behind the library.
@tnchaptnchap i have too. ive lsitened to this music in a low level while on the long tours. it fits it perfectly. americas largest privately owned home.
Yeah it is really big. I have always wondered if people went days at a time not seeing each other because the house is so big? All the times I have been, I have never really heard them say if there is any ghost stories or experiences. I am a 28 year old guy who works in a funeral home and is use to death and quiet places but, I don't think I would want to be in a house that big by myself, espically at night!
Yes it is true. no cameras allowed I am from Niagara falls Ontario Can and went here in May o7 via car...and I could only do outside pics.. but is nice to see the inside again...
Use to live in Asheville years ago. One of my wife's friends father was the electrician for the house. He would travel all over to find wireing that would match the period (course he would then make it safe before using). We would get free passes from them every so often. The kids just loved it. Wonder if he's still around, haven't been in a few years.
Biltmore still is , and probably always will be , the largest and most beautiful mansion ever built in the Western Hemisphere. Great job Richard Morrison Hunt!
I grew up In Asheville, North Caorlina, and I have been to the Biltmore house many, many times. The house and estate are absolutely spectacular. Though, I don't live in North Carolina anymore, I sure would like to visit the Biltmore house once more.

Hannibal was filmed here; they used some interior shots and the scene where the guy is being eaten by pigs was filmed in a nearby barn.

The mansion was also in a movie called " All of Me", with Peter Sellers. Good movie!
