Once again, I'm torn. On the one hand, this song is simply brilliant. But on the other hand, none of the supposedly "official" movies I've seen even mention Thunderchild! And that just won't do!
@Badgaldinger Thats more to the discredit of the movie makers because Thunder Child is in HG Wells book and she represents the might of the British Navy at that time, its a bit poor that no movie producer has had the guts to throw a heavy weight budget at a War of the Worlds film which is actually set in the era of the book, then we could really enjoy the great scenes and characters that we visualise from the original HG Wells classic (instead of Tom Cruise and hollywood messing it up)
Great slideshow to accompany this timeless musical masterpiece. I've alway looked forward to some animated visuals to go with this story and your videos are the best I've found so far. Very enjoyable - well done, great work and please do some more.
I remember the Thunderchild from the book, it was one of the few things that could stand up to the Martian war machines, in fact the tripods didn't have force shields like in the movie, a twelve pounder took out one of them at one point, but by and large the human race was largely out matched, still I love the part where the Thunderchild makes a charge at the tripods.
honestly, they should do a WOTW reboot. Keep it closer to the book (the aliens were MARTIANS for a reason in the book), they can update the setting if they want (tho i honestly dont care, id like a modern day england as the setting), and above all else they should have jeff wayne do the soundtrack. it would be great.
@bluereaper75 ABSOLUTELY. It would be 10,000 times better than the Tom Cruise POS from 2005. I think a Victorian England setting would be cool - Wells and Jules Verne were really the forefathers of steampunk - but it really doesn't matter to me, as long as Jeff Wayne does the soundtrack. For this scene, I'm imagining a largish US or UK destroyer taking on the Fighting Machines, opening fire with deck guns and missiles, but still being vanquished. That would be intense.
Considering you would struggle to buy this anywhere anymore, I should point out that you can download this from a certain site. Inb4 I'm banned by youtube for suggesting doing so. I'd post a link but well....i like giving people thumbs down.

Just returned from the live performance of TWOTW at MEN. This is one of the really powerful songs redone. All wonderful versions. Not getting into the creation arguments as they are irrelevant to this excellent music.
I cannot begin to tell you what this double set 8-track meant to a bunch of 8-10 year olds in an Art class! As I remember it. It drew off one side of our brains in order that the Art (painting, pastel, etc.) side could function.
I have this vinyl album.. it is awesome. Narrated by Richard Burton. Songs by David Essex and Justin Hayward, singing Forever Autumn, a very haunting a beatiful song.
@pathwalkerx You are Correct. Outside of the Universe there is Absolute Nothing - Total Void - something man is yet incapable of conceiving. Genesis 1:2 ... and the earth was without form and Void (before Creation began).
@Cherubaby Just because it was written in the Bible - Doesn't make it true.
However I've gotta say that It can't be a void, space itself is the void. I reckon the outside of our known universe is complete pure "white" energy, and a collision of them created a vaccuum that sucked all this energy into the "void" at such a rate that it created more than just a void which, to this day, continues to expand at such a huge rate. - My personal theory of the Big Bang ;)
@Alvsyn But Space of itself, as you claim, is NOT a Void. Space is composed of Dark Matter. Dark matter constitutes 80% of the matter in the Universe, while ordinary matter makes up only 20%. Look up Dark Matter on Wikipedia. The Bible IS Truth. GOD created our Universe into the Void with a Big Bang. GOD is Good. GOD is Love. Love Him and one another.
Secondly, I don't trust "god" in the christian sense... There's been far too much evidence that I've seen to tell me such fancies are little more than harmful to the society of man... If you're refering to such a thing it's best to refer to it as "the powers that be" so you don't offend any religions by talking about your own.
@Alvsyn I don't care if people are offended or not. I have the same Right to talk about GOD and Jesus as Muslims have to talk about Allah, and Hindus have to talk about Shiva, etc. Those who don't stand up for something will fall for anything.
Guys; it would be impossible to measure the properties of an infinite universe since they are always changing, and we can't pin down an infinte superposition, so the universe may quite happily be infinite!
Why in the world don't they make a movie based on the book? They could even do a musical using Jeff Lynne's father's vision as a soundtrtack and it would not only be awesome, it would be one of the only musicals worth watching.

The universe is infinite. If not, whatever is outside it is infinite. If not, whatever is outside THAT is infinite. So on and so forth in an infinite line.
Oh I'm just getting an arrogant tone from you, as pretty much everything you comment on is an argument or trying to correct something by smothering it with your own views.
So you would say that the nothing outside our universe goes on forever, that is that there is only our universe and nothing everywhere else?
I'm not even going to argue with you, it's not that I can't, it's just that arguing with you about this would be like trying to turn the Pope athiestic. You seem so arrogantly stuck in your beliefs that even if an "alien" abducted you, took you for a spin around Sirus A, then popped you back in your basment, you'd probably attribute it to last night's bad lasagne. So please enlighten us Mr. "Pathwalker", what's beyond the end of the Universe?
What is arrogant about saying the universe is finite (mathmatically it has to be)
If an "alien" came anywhere near me It would probably regret it (theres a huge cash value reward for proof of Aliens and I would be quite happy to collect it)

Thunder Child is a fictional torpedo ram that went down in history which saved our asses from double no lotioning by the martians. She saved us all. I hope there's a new ship that will be called "Thunder Child" at some point.
Actually it does, but they don't say it directly, but the words they use suggests that it most certainly did sink. Because the narrator says at one point in the book (and this) "The Earth, belonged, to the Martians", but he says this only after they stop mentioning Thunderchild. This means that everybody believed the Thunderchild was quite literally Earth's last defense, so when it sunk, humanity just, gave up.
@kyon813 In the book the Martians actually say the word "ALOO" or "ALLOO" i can't remember which-Jeff just turned the letters around, probably because ULLA sounds better?
Btw do you guys know that Justin Hayward is going to be in The Musical Version of The Wars of The Worlds. Its just been announced. I found it out, on the war of the world website: the war of the worlds. Com
Love Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. I remember seeing the LP in record stores when I was a kid (I grew up watching the old movie on TV in the 80's), but I didn't actually hear it until 2008.
Happy Halloween...and 101st anniversary for WotW.
Do you have the whole Highlights CD? I've been looking for it for quite awhile now (already own the 7 disc set) but I like how the tracks sound on this version better. If you do, could you post the whole thing someday? I would love to hear it in its entirety again.
In the follow up comics of War of the World Britain goes on to rule most of the world with martian technology.
In London there is a square named in honour of the captain of the Thunderchild, of all Britain's military forces he fought best against the Martians and sacrificed himself and his ship to save the refugees.
the chances of anything coming from mars was a million to one they said, they fucked that up. Oooooohhhhhhh Loorrrd.

But mathmatically it must be finite
any infinite space containing finite matter is nul (anything divided by infinity is 0)
an infinite space containing infinate matter has infinite mass and implodes to a zero point at infinite speed
Thus unless the universe is not based on maths or logic it MUST be finite
and there is nothing outside it

From the Concept of the Game Dungeons and Dragons (no scientific basis)
What makes you think there is intelligent life HERE ?
Actually a Finite Universe (which we live in) requires that life is also finite and limited

AWESOME! I've loved this book since 1st Grade and the musical since 3rd. Oh, btw, the Thunderchild doesn't sink in the book.
zoeyed 2 years ago
Actually it does, but they don't say it directly, but the words they use suggests that it most certainly did sink. Because the narrator says at one point in the book (and this) "The Earth, belonged, to the Martians", but he says this only after they stop mentioning Thunderchild. This means that everybody believed the Thunderchild was quite literally Earth's last defense, so when it sunk, humanity just, gave up.

I stand corrected. Cool. Thanks.

@Carnage1235 Three more Ironclads Arrive after the sinking of the Thunderchild.

I'm aware, i'm just saying everybody "believed", that there was no point having any hope when it did sink.
Carnage1235 2 years ago
As we watch the sinking wrech, slowly dissapearing, that should take care of the sinking part...lol.
