The Brady campaign said the Assault Weapons ban worked because it reduced crimes comitted with AW's from about 5% to 1.6%. Who wastes 95% of their effort on fixing 5% of a problem. Second, I could commit a crime with a pre ban SKS with 10 shot magazine, folding stock and bayonet one year and add to the 5% The next year under the ban I could use a post ban SKS, SAME RIFLE with a straight stock and the bayonet removed to commit the same crime. It would not add to the 1.6% But it is the SAME GUN.

@NoMAIG I have just a few questions: 1, why use a provably inferior rifle (ar15) when smaller, more capable systems are available for comparable prices, 2, why such large magazines? Even with 5.56 surely that many rounds would be fairly heavy (when attached to the rifle, anyway), not to mention large and unweildly, lastly, um...no, that pretty much covers it. @10mmTroy You can get a mini-30 or mini-14 and put a bullpup stock on it. I saw a dude making 450 yard shots like it was nothing with a setup like that. ~600 for the rifle, ~120 for the bullpup kit, plust whatever you wanna spend on optics. You won't make that kind of shot with iron sights on a bullpup, the sights are too close together.

And yes, a little grit on the bearing surfaces for the BCG or the bolt cam pin, and, voila, the jamomatic will start doing its thing. The thing that is scary is that, you are correct, I've never "used and AR hard." I'd say my use to date has been incredibly gentle, considering its allegedly a battle rifle....and it still shits itself on cue.
Sounds like a high speed load of shit to me. The only time I ever cleaned anything other than the bore was when it got really, really dirty. Typically, at least a thousand rounds. I only had one malfunction - when I wasn't using a PMAG.
Fyi I wouldn't compare any rimfire semi to any centerfire semi there's literally half as many moving parts as a direct impingement weapon and about 1/4 as many as a piston - doing so has demonstrated you don't know much about firearms.

rimfire v center: hows a rimfire have half the components? Hell, I tried to take my Model 60 apart once untill I saw the clusterfuck of levers and springs and plungers and shit. I immediately recognized I was outclassed and walked away... With an M16 I got gigged for taking it too far apart. And it really wasn't that difficult.
There's no true bolt or bolt carrier, piston/op rod, etc.
Also, it sounds like you've got bad mags, a gun from a super low end manufacturer, bad ammunition, all of the above or you're just a liar. Personally, I'd say its probably the latter and you're not in the Military/never have been and have never owned an AR-15 either. I'll concede that fully half of my fail to fires were the result of bad mags, but I've still suffered a lot of fail to fires that were related to failing to return to battery. And a couple dud rounds, but I don't blame the gun for those.
Never owned an AR, never will...but I've got three consecutive USMC Expert rifle badges.
All a rimfire semi .22LR typically has is a blowback bolt that's doubling as the bolt carrier, it doesn't even lock up when it chambers the round. Its more like a Glock than an AR-15, period.
And you can claim whatever you want, saying you've never gotten through more than 30 rounds with a 4 without a jam seriously undermines your credibility and sets off my bullshit alarm (especially since most Marines use M16A4s...), I've never seen that kind of failure rate ever.

Yea, most marines do use A4, but vehicle/aircrews use M4s if they carry a long arm at all. I've seen some grunts with them too.

Hahahaha no such test exists to support the claim that under normal operating conditions it will fail "at least every other magazine". Even in the final extreme dust chamber test MRBS would only support that you're statistically likely to have a stoppage once every three magazines. And that's a test that simulates circumstances you are never going to encounter in reality. Never. Conventional tests find 2,000+ MRBS.
@10mmTroy I flatly don't believe one of these rifles could fire that many rounds unless you clean it after every hundred or so, and only used new magazines during the test. I don't get nearly that many rounds between stoppages out of a gun that I clean every day I carry it, even though I treat it like it's made of spun glass.
And the number you're looking for during the dust test was 2.2. I rounded to the nearest whole number. Sue me. Doesn't change the fact that it fails incessantly.

I think the worst rifle I've ever used was brand new. It was no more reliable than the worn out bitch I was issued in boot, and it wasn't even as accurate because the barrel hadn't been broken in. I was sweating bullets on qual day!
@10mmTroy I had never put too much thought to it either untill I got issued one I had to pull the little cardboard tube out of. Day one where I hit and where I aimed had nothing to do with eachother. Day two got a little better, and day three was actually almost to what I was used to seeing for accuracy. I dunno about a civilian AR, but Knights Armament definitely does not break in the barrel before they ship the gun to your friendly local armorer.
Oh okay, you got an SR-15. That nobody gets issued. Talk about some unconvincing lies. Also, I've shot all manners of piston operated and DI operated weapons in 7.62x51mm, 5.56x45mm, usually shooting civilian match grade (TAP) ammo in lieu of issued ammunition but also some of that too. Typically, I can get ~1.5MOA out of a rifle on the first day with non match and one hole groups with handloads or civ match. Do some research on the subject, there's no evidence barrel break in period exists.
@10mmTroy Actually, it was an A4. When the rifles are brand-new, never been fired, they have a cardboard tube (looks like a tiny toilet paper roll that's really long) in the bore. Still had it in when I got it from the armory. It didn't take too many rounds, and it wasn't a drastic difference (untill the 500), but the brand-new bore was still a noticable factor. I'm told that it has to do with burrs left from milling out the rifling, but IDK. It's a real phenomina, though.
You must have had a very low quality barrel, then. It is true that rough edges in the chrome lining are worn down and imperfections filled with copper (which improves accuracy) but this usually only takes a few rounds. "Barrel break in" in shooting communities refers to a meticulous shoot and clean process that actually damages the barrel but is none the less something of a shootist's urban legend.
@10mmTroy I heard a gunsmith talking to a guy about barrel break in at a store once, but I wasn't really paying too much attention. I rarely buy new enough guns to worry about such a thing, and I never dreamed I'd actually be issued one that new.
Also, KAC does not make M16A4s or any AR-15, actually. Their SR-15 is an updated design and as far as I know is issued NOWHERE in the military. If you had a brand new A4 it was probably made by FNH-USA. KAC gear that is issued includes RIS for M4s and M16s and the SR-25 known as the Mk.11, M110, etc.

@kybosshog420 - The correct terminology is magazine, not a clip. Just thought I'd clear that up. Clip is something in a rifle, called a stripper clip, or "En Bloc" loader. It's just a different way of loading rounds into the firearm.
The most I've seen any magazine hold in my personal experiences was 30. There are high capacity ones that hold 50, 75, 100... Doesn't make the firearm any more dangerous.

Just about the only part of a car that will stop a bullet is the engine. The Brady campaign said the Assault Weapons ban worked because it reduced crimes comitted with AW's from about 5% to 1.6%. Who wastes 95% of their effort on fixing 5% of a problem. Second, I could commit a crime with a pre ban SKS with 10 shot magazine, folding stock and bayonet one year and add to the 5% The next year under the ban I could use a post ban SKS, SAME RIFLE with a straight stock and the bayonet removed to commit the same crime. It would not add to the 1.6% But it is the SAME GUN.

I saw a dude making 450 yard shots like it was nothing with a setup like that. ~600 for the rifle, ~120 for the bullpup kit, plust whatever you wanna spend on optics. You won't make that kind of shot with iron sights on a bullpup, the sights are too close together.

And yes, a little grit on the bearing surfaces for the BCG or the bolt cam pin, and, voila, the jamomatic will start doing its thing. I'd say my use to date has been incredibly gentle, considering its allegedly a battle rifle....and it still shits itself on cue.

Sounds like a high speed load of shit to me. The only time I ever cleaned anything other than the bore was when it got really, really dirty. Typically, at least a thousand rounds. I only had one malfunction - when I wasn't using a PMAG.
Fyi I wouldn't compare any rimfire semi to any centerfire semi there's literally half as many moving parts as a direct impingement weapon and about 1/4 as many as a piston - doing so has demonstrated you don't know much about firearms.

All a rimfire semi .22LR typically has is a blowback bolt that's doubling as the bolt carrier, it doesn't even lock up when it chambers the round. Its more like a Glock than an AR-15, period.
And you can claim whatever you want, saying you've never gotten through more than 30 rounds with a 4 without a jam seriously undermines your credibility and sets off my bullshit alarm (especially since most Marines use M16A4s...), I've never seen that kind of failure rate ever.

Even in the final extreme dust chamber test MRBS would only support that you're statistically likely to have a stoppage once every three magazines. And that's a test that simulates circumstances you are never going to encounter in reality. Never. Conventional tests find 2,000+ MRBS.

I don't get nearly that many rounds between stoppages out of a gun that I clean every day I carry it, even though I treat it like it's made of spun glass.

Day two got a little better, and day three was actually almost to what I was used to seeing for accuracy. I dunno about a civilian AR, but Knights Armament definitely does not break in the barrel before they ship the gun to your friendly local armorer.

Also, I've shot all manners of piston operated and DI operated weapons in 7.62x51mm, 5.56x45mm, usually shooting civilian match grade (TAP) ammo in lieu of issued ammunition but also some of that too. Typically, I can get ~1.5MOA out of a rifle on the first day with non match and one hole groups with handloads or civ match. Do some research on the subject, there's no evidence barrel break in period exists.

@10mmTroy Actually, it was an A4. When the rifles are brand-new, never been fired, they have a cardboard tube (looks like a tiny toilet paper roll that's really long) in the bore. Still had it in when I got it from the armory. It didn't take too many rounds, and it wasn't a drastic difference (untill the 500), but the brand-new bore was still a noticable factor. I'm told that it has to do with burrs left from milling out the rifling, but IDK. It's a real phenomina, though.

You must have had a very low quality barrel, then. It is true that rough edges in the chrome lining are worn down and imperfections filled with copper (which improves accuracy) but this usually only takes a few rounds. "Barrel break in" in shooting communities refers to a meticulous shoot and clean process that actually damages the barrel but is none the less something of a shootist's urban legend.

Also, KAC does not make M16A4s or any AR-15, actually. Their SR-15 is an updated design and as far as I know is issued NOWHERE in the military. If you had a brand new A4 it was probably made by FNH-USA. KAC gear that is issued includes RIS for M4s and M16s and the SR-25 known as the Mk.11, M110, etc.

@kybosshog420 - The correct terminology is magazine, not a clip. Just thought I'd clear that up. Clip is something in a rifle, called a stripper clip, or "En Bloc" loader. It's just a different way of loading rounds into the firearm.
The most I've seen any magazine hold in my personal experiences was 30. There are high capacity ones that hold 50, 75, 100... Doesn't make the firearm any more dangerous.

Paul Helmke is a liar and a very dishonest and evil person for saying his organization does not advocate renewing the assault weapons but the fact is I've heard him say alot from youtube videos that he wants high capacity clips and assault rifles banned. In fact, any person who has not been proven dangerous should be able to own and carry any kind of a gun regardless of status in society, unless you are serving time in jail, probation, on parole, or are proven too dangerous to be with public.

Gun-rights advocates would be well advised to stop basing their arguments on utilitarian principles (i.e. that fewer gun restrictions will also decrease crime) and move over to an Objectivist standpoint. Namely, that you have the right to own property and a gun, of course, is property. This is because the answer to whether or not gun laws control crime is still not yet rigorously proven! If you are going to take a stand against these laws, you need to condemn them EVEN IF THEY ARE EFFECTIVE!!
