i think people need to stop being so critical... these guys are only school kids so probly didnt have any decent brass or wind players. dont be so snobbish and stuck up! Music is ment to be fun... not critisising and full of peple hu bring you down!
You need brass!!!! The French Horn trill makes this piece man. Also its much more powerful to have trumpets do the opening fanfare, violins dont have the authority that brass does. At 4:15 you really need they trombones there, and at 5:04 is a huge trombone part and you could even hear the strings play it! You guys sounded good but you need brass.
P.S Since Im a trombonist I will always tell you more trombone but the brass really takes you guys to a new level.
if the piece was arranged by a different person or the original, then yes, it would require not only the brass but also percussion, wind, etc.
but this arrangement is for strings only. the violins at the beggining is supposed to replace the trumpets and the bass/cello section is supposed to replace something like the trumbone.
Chickencombo13, symphony orchestras have BRASS. There's plenty of BRASS written in this piece, but they rewrote it all for strings. It's quite a PITY, but they probably didn't have much CHOICE.
@chickencombo13 Ummmm it's a piece written for FULL ORCHESTRA. Which means brass and woodwinds. It is arranged for string orchestra. I played this at all state..... there is brass.
Im playing this with my orchestra i love it! the atage they are playing on is one of the best in the world, the violins really rushed the beginning.I love playing 3:56 to 4:44
what did you just say! don't insult mr. brucker, yeah he only got his teaching credential recently and may be a little rusty at conducting but it's supposed to look like that! plus he has his own style of conducting.
Good sound. I am not too fond of the interpretation. WAAAY too many rubato sections and tempo changes. Great job with the good intonation. Just a persona preference with the piece from one conductor to another.
Shaky ending but all in all not too shabby. Typical sized orchestra, but two more stands of cellos than I'm used to seeing, I'm surprised you can hear the violins at all with that many.
I know!!! Jeez, I don't like it. I play the cello and I was looking forward to hearing the awesome cello line. We played this in the spring at my high school except it was the orginial Orchestral version.
I thought the tempo changes were a bit dramatic and too frequent.

the conductor looks like a puppet... one who means well, but only has an up and down string... too bad

it not the conductor fault ,in the musician level of understanding the music,

It's an orchestral piece, which means NO BRASS, that's why there is NO BRASS because this version was written for ORCHESTRA

6:50 to 7:20ish, why do the violins not play the music an octave higher, which is how its written.
geo134 2 years ago
Probably because they're just middle schoolers and can't shift that high yet. The highest note is atleast in 5th position.

my 8th grade orchestra is amazing at 5th position in this song. so....

omg. when the violins have the melody at 00:54 is totally messed up!
i played the original and that melody sounds so much better when the cello's play it. erg....this sucks.

@Curlyjustinn The musicians did indeed play very well and the conductor looked like a lousy rookie, but please don't use the f-word....

Wow, sounds pretty good considering there's no woodwind, brass and percussion. i personally think this song sounds that much better with those added

playing this for all-region, it's a fun piece. but i agree, i don't like this interpretation.

haha, the second violin section is totally chilling for like the first... 30-ish measures
I know exactly what that's like.
